These IRL Streamers in Japan are a MASSIVE Problem

Most streamers in Japan who do IRL content are respectable, happy-go-lucky and innocent... but there are some IRL streamers who are spoiling it for everyone.
Please don't go and witch hunt anyone who may be involved. I don't condone it in any way, please give the respect that these streamers lack.

There’s a KZfaqr named Paolo (Paolo From Tokyo is his channel btw, highly recommend) who does videos about the various professions in Japan (Day In The Life), about how various food shops are run (Behind The Counter), how certain Japanese products are made (Made In Japan) and a ton of other videos involving all kinds of things and places in Japan. He’s a really nice guy who can speak and understand Japanese (partly due to him being married to a Japanese woman who can speak English fluently btw) but he’s revealed in a video back in December, I believe, that he’s been having some problems with getting permission to film at certain places and he actually gets rejected more than accepted on it which has brought him down a bit especially since he wants to make the best content possible (in a reasonable way) for his viewers.

He regularly does drugs in Japan and got kicked out from his kindergarden English teaching job most likely for being drunk since he tends to get drunk a lot on his streams. Him and his friends also made out with a 17 year old girl. The girl even admitted she was 17 on stream but they didn't care. He later started saying she was 25 when he realised that people in the chat were disturbed by what they've seen. He's also live streamed smashing pros twice on Kick and he's still allowed to stream on that platform.

annoying and bothering others is just normally a wrong thing to do in the public, no matter how massive your ego is, no matter you pull up a excuse like you are drunk or whatever. It is not just japan, it is normal human behavior to say that you are doing something wrong, if this happens in hong kong, you are getting kick out by the driver not the passengers, people have a little bit of self awareness knows they are bothering people around them when being this loud, Cdwagva may do some stupid things in his irl stream, but he would never intentionally make people around him uncomfortable, if he accidentally did it, he apologize for it immediately, that is a self awareness that this irl streamer should have, know your place that you are also just a human being as how others are. At the end of the day, if no one in a foreigner perspective say anything about this, then this will continue and make more mis understanding, create an un friendly image as a whole for travelers in japan as a whole. it is also about streaming / filming does not give you a privilege of being an total asshole, this applies for anybody

I'm surprised IRL steaming even exists in Japan. Because Japan is one of the few countries where you can be sued, and most often lose, if you catch somebody on camera who doesn't want to be on there. To the point where some of the older generation can get straight up aggressive, and call the cops. Like, in Japan, you can get in serious serious trouble. I don't know whether, people don't understand their rights and don't apprehend irl streamers, or they think it's rude. But I'm really surprised it's taken off in a country where it's borderline illegal.

This isn't quite true. Public photography is allowed. If you are in a public space, then you are basically concenting to being photographed. That has nothing to do with "streaming", but can apply to any video. You can watch news programs showing people walking outside, and kabukicho live cams, etc. Hell, the government and private institutions have lots of security cameras everywhere in the city. That said: 1. The cultural norms are basically against identifying people or taking photos or video of people who don't want to be involved, so it is considered rude. 2. The definition of "public place" can be iffy. Most shopping malls, etc., have signs that say "No photography". 3. Anyone can sue anyone for anything, whether they will win is what is important. A person can sue a photographer who has released the photo/video if they can prove that the photographer has negatively impacted them, and that outweights any artistic impact. For example, ruining someone's reputation, traumatizing them, etc. Either way, better to err on the side of caution. If you act like a jerk and piss people off often enough, someone is going to report you at least once, and once is all it will take if you are a person who is on a visa.

I can understand how many Japanese people view content creators as a negative thing, especially when Logan Paul and many others were extremely obnoxious just for clout. One person that I watch - named Paolo fromTOKYO and TokyoZebra (same person) - he says that whenever he films his 'Day in a Life' series, he has to get special permission from both the individual he's interviewing and the company that person works to showcase what life is like for each individual in Japan. I love the work that he puts into it, and many businesses that he highlights gain traction from many tourists who are looking for things to do in Japan.

@shiruba2004
@shiruba2004 Жыл бұрын
I am not sure why any of this is surprising. Real work tends to have things like a 401k. Some KZfaq channels have that, to be sure. Anything from LTT to NHK KZfaq could be called a "real job", because there is an actual company cutting people paychecks. 99.9% of people who independant upload videos to KZfaq don't make even anywhere near enough money to live on, and for the few that do, they are indeed freelancers in every sense of the word. There's not anything inherently bad about doing KZfaq or similar if you can make it work, but saying "I'm going to stream myself harassing some people" certainly doesn't make a proper business.

Knowing that you've lived/are living in Japan you have a good say in this but also made it a broader issue.

had to dig into the comments, because I don't watch any other Japan-based youtubers/streamers,other than you, Aki and Connor and Chris, of course. for me, you guys are the mix of entertainment AND informative content, people who are my age, and who I can learn from. you show me the country (which I'll probably never get to visit in my life, sadly) in a really good quality. I found (I think?) that person's channel and already looking at them for brief seconds, tells a lot. in short: I'm not sinking down to that level. I'm very strict, when it comes to content creation, I want the creator to respect the surroundings(wether it's a place, or an item, like some figure review), and that person is absolutely not doing that.

Actions in the clips goes beyond creating a bad rap for content creators, Japanese people have mixed feelings on foreigners residing in Japan already. This stuff just fuels negative feelings towards foreigners and makes an uphill climb even steeper for anyone new trying to make a living in Japan. Feels like if these sorts interactions continue we will see stricter enforcement on top of already strict filming / photography rules in public. Reminder that Tokyo outright banned the flying of drones after enthusiasts parked one on top of a government building. Would hate to see the same thing happen to public broadcasting.

I assume it was a group of Americans because two guys were wearing Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys and the two women were wearing fairy outfits. That's a drastic contrast to the content I've been seeing from a streamer named 박진우[JINU] while in Japan. He just randomly talks to people in Japan and the Japanese always ask if he's a KZfaqr. Or they invite him to conversate briefly because they see his rig. You can even see him find a park full of Japanese tik tokers or just KZfaqrs..so it seems like the general public is more aware of the streamers.

I follow a English speaking Japanese who is a big fan of Joey and does relatable skits on the side. Recently, the KZfaqr has (for the past year or 2) respectfully done IRL streaming and will correct the audience on where filmimg can or cannot happen. There is always a purpose to the stream whether that is to eat certain food or to go see certain buildings that cam be seen from afar. I would hate for "S" to ruin the fun for other IRL streamers in Japan who have done nothing but respectfully film while also teaching the audience to be mindful.

It’s very relaxing and they just let you enjoy their simple walks through towns and see what it’s like from a 1st person perspective. It gives me locations to use for my artwork, and inspiration for map ideas, a taste of locations I wanna visit myself- and street view references for landscape art.
