Awesome guitar tricks from Lynyrd Skynyrd. This video is going to show you ways to make your bends and guitar solo licks sound more interesting. Gary Rossington and Allen Collins both played the solo on Simple Man. There are so many licks to take away from that solo. Today you'll be learning one of my favorites from the song.

I know Gary Rossington is definitely smiling down cause he knows there is someone trying to show the real music the real riffs and solos and bends and extras to their creations, awesome work Tom!!!!

@@TomsRockinGuitar yes sir he was definitely one of a kind, a true SimpleMan, I was very fortunate to get a meet and greet with Gary and the band when they did a concert in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, which as cool as they all are Gary was the only one I was interested in meeting lol Gary is just the absolute most awesome guitarist to me in my opinion, he's literally lived the life no doubt but has always stayed beyond humble especially to the fans, but Gary is the main reason I picked up a guitar and started learning, I was finally able to buy one of his reissue Gibson Gary Rossington edition LesPauls with the wall stand about a year ago and it's probably one of my most prized possessions lol

Tom, what i like about watching your videos is the exuberance with which you identify with the licks! Seriously. I thought i was "strange" and "unique" because i feel the same way when i listen to that music. They're my all time favorite band, because of the way they make those guitar licks sound. You're not teaching things like, "put this finger on this fret and pick the string twice," or anything mechanical. You're teaching the feeling behind the licks! To me, that's what it's all about. I'm a subscriber. 👍 👌

He’s also really good at getting the same sounds as they had. He’s got the bends down and that’s not so easy. Skynyrd was hard for me to learn by ear because they have three great guitars that were as good at playing rhythms and lead. Then when you’re in a one guitar band trying to play their songs, it’s not that easy.l

I’m finally going to learn this song. It’s one I just haven’t gotten to, mostly because I was too lazy to tune my guitar down a half step or a step to learn one song. Now I have more than one guitar. Problem solved. Now I have no excuse. Enjoyed the video

Hey, Tom! I play with 10 gauge strings, and I practice almost entirely on my acoustic. But I realize that I need to put the time in on my electric guitar, because of the fact that there's a different level of sensitivity and string noise. So, I know I need to put the time in there. But I think I'm going to swap out my 10s for 9s on the electric. I'm planning to spend a lot of time with the electric guitar, but I need to find a lighter weight axe, because the weight of my Schechter hurts my neck after having 3 vertebrae in my neck fused (the lower 3). It's at least as heavy as my Les Paul was. I want something with P90s instead of the grunge metal humbuckers on the one I have now. (Also, I've come to hate the FR bridge on this thing. It makes it a pain in the ole backside to do anything , like tune, change strings, change tuning (eg drop D, etc). Anyway, I'm listening to you as I comment, and you're right--you do sound as good as the recording! Good job! Thanks for all the time you invest in your videos! Good job, Tom! 👍 👌

Very nice Tom, your Skynyrd knowledge is impeccable! Such tasty licks and phrasing are the difference between you and many other southern rocks influencer's. I'm wondering what your amp is? It sounds amazing! I know what the band used back then and it's really not easily achieved without hearing loss...lol.

I cant think of any more completely opposite players. Putting these two together was something only a musically genius mind could understand. But Ronnie van zant new the music world would be a better place because of it. One talent fed off the other. Ed king has said many times that if it weren't for Gary doing this off beat style rhythm he would have never came up with the sweet home Alabama riff. You put two or more talented musical geniuses in a room history came many times be made.😮
