I cannot wait to see Sasquatch Sunset. Animals from my work are in the film, including Spike the porcupine who was waving in the trailer. She is the oldest living porcupine at 21 years old. It will be weird AF, we have been warned since production, amd the emotions will be so wverywhere due to our personal connection, but we are buying out a theater to see it next week and excited to see our animals be movie stars!!

Love Lies Bleeding is so worth it... I went into it completely blind the weekend before last because my brain was really not in a good place.... whole movie helped me appreciate that my life could be better (it made me miss being in love) but could also be worse (at least I'm not likely to commit crime or get caught up on steroids, not really a spoiler). Just like Amanda was saying about I Saw the TV Glow, it just wouldn't leave my head for like a month. Fun fact! From what I understand the only reason Y2K wasn’t as bad as we were warned was because *drum role please* They, uh, warned us and prepared. IIRC the tech sector ran themselves ragged working to make sure it wouldn’t do what they were worried about but it worked so well everyone thought they were over exaggerating it all. I’m so glad that never happened again. Ever. Take this all with a grain of salt and do your own research if this interests you. This is just what I remember from some random videos I’ve watched over the years.

I think MONKEY MAN's flaws as a film for international audiences - particularly in dealing with its supposedly 'slow' middle - is that it chooses not to catch non-Indian audiences up on its symbolism, its cultural context and its subtextual content. For me, the middle - from the Dev's character diving into the river until the start of Act 3 - was phenomenal, it was moving, touching, engaging, it was the segment that made this film into something special and something transcendent beyond the exhausting comic book nonsense of, for instance, the JOHN WICK films. But the problem is that I'm Indian and I picked up on EVERY reference, EVERY image, EVER symbolic contrast or comparison the film was making. I was weeping in places and I was charged with anger at the system the film depicts which is very accurate to the realities faced by India and other Asian nations. I picked up on the hints in the soundtrack, the significance of the religious aspects and the power of the narrative it's trying to shape while not getting bogged down with India's very idiosyncratic social and political injustices that resemble virtually nothing of what's happening in the West's version of those kinds of corruption. The content IS there, in full force, pedal to the floor. It's just that the film doesn't take the time to pull outsiders in and help them see it. And I think that some of the action sequences could have been trimmed to make room for more nuanced presentations of that content. I think MONKEY MAN's flaws really highlight how hegemonic and colonialist genre cinema is. A French invention dominated by American industry and cultural capital; audiences in the West are far less informed of the culture of the East than audiences in the East are informed about the cultures of the West. It's a really interesting problem of art and commerce, but it highlights - IMHO - that if we really want to enjoy the incredibly rich variety of content that the rest of the planet has to offer for English-language-centric cinema, especially genre films, that filmmakers and audiences need to start teaching each other how to stop relying on Hollywood to teach us pretty much all we know about the world. In a world where CIS, straight men on the KZfaqs keep telling us that OPPENHEIMER is the "pinnacle" of filmmaking, MONKEY MAN reminds us that films are still created, marketed and consumed in protected little bubbles of ignorance. MONKEY MAN could have tried a little harder to flesh out (in a Western lens) its uniquely Indian content that genuinely supports the film's emotional arc...and audiences could try harder to subject themselves to a broader diet of films and not just what their local multiplex or streamer (or even film festivals which are still viewing movies largely through a Western lens) tells us is worthy cinema. Love your summations and your channel, as always.

Well, it's not BY them, they just produced it. I'm sure they contributed a lot and they each have cameos in the movie, but it's my bad for not spefically mentioning the writer/director, Michael Felker

"Lisa Frankenstein" was the first movie I've seen in the theater since 2018, and while IMO it was not a masterpiece of cinema, it was tremendously entertaining ... and I was absolutely shocked to find out that Cole Sprouse can act! I just went to see it because I think he's handsome! Turns out he can carry an entire feature based solely on the strength of his facial expressions and physical acting. (Anyone who has seen it will know what I mean.) Riverdale was hot garbage from start to end, and he couldn't salvage it at all, so I'm glad he's finally getting things to *do.* That being said ... based on the promotional images for his movie mentioned in this video, I definitely thought it was about a polyamorous romantic relationship. Oops. The next time I accidentally see him in the wild in L.A., maybe I'll throw myself on my sword about it and let him scold me.

Adam Pearson's role in A Different Man HOPEFULLY!!! leads many more people to watch him and Scarlett Johansson in Under The Skin (2013), a criminally unknown A24 masterpiece, that is best enjoyed going in totally blind. Please, I just need more KZfaq reactions of this film, but nobody seems to know about it!

Honestly, a person named Amanda The Jedi and states she doesn't know Katy O'Brien from anywhere is Ironic. Katy was a bad Imperial guy in Andor who tortured a scientist to death while eating an apple. Andor is a great pre-quel story to Rogue One. She rocked in Andor and in Love Lies Bleeding.

This is crazy but I saw both Andor & Marvels Agents of Shield and I barely remember her. I don't understand why that is but when I saw the trailer for Love Lies Bleeding I honestly, I had no idea who she was. And still kind of don't...anyway now I see her!

Andor's been on my to watch list for a while and it's the only star wars thing I'm excited to get back to! Disney and the fanbase as a whole really just kinda killed any desire to engage with new material in the franchise. Basically when Mando S2 turned into a 'let's beta test 10 different potential series instead of making something great' I was out. EDIT: Actually when I found out Obi Wan had the twins, I was reaaaalllyy out

@@AmandaTheJedi I fell out of love with Star Wars somewhere around 2017. I got excited with Mando but back door plot hell and naming baby Yoda after what sounds like Dragonball ripoff peaced me out. Andor though is a rare gem. Hope season two lives up to it. Overall Disney no longer gets my money, I boycott over deleting the Willow Series.

You should check out the novel Rabbits by Terry Miles, based on a podcast by the same author. I feel like it evokes the same vibe as I Saw The Tv Glow. It confuses what is life and what is the “game” in a really fun way.
