I’m glad you clarified that corn flour = corn starch. In the US, you can get corn flour that is not corn starch-more like regular wheat flour but made with corn, not as finely ground as corn starch (which is made from a specific part of the corn rather than the whole kernel). There is also cornmeal which is more coarse. They are all used for very different things.

Actually you can mix cornmeal with all purpose flour to make buns and they are delicious!

@@grandmundi7107 Yes, but you definitely don’t want to use cornmeal or corn flour in this recipe in place of the cornstarch. You’d end up with some pretty dense pancakes. 😂

Thanks for introducing korean cuisine. This JEON..we call it 'yachae jeon'... *my mom always made it for family not only for side dish but snack.* *And for more authentic dipping sauce,* I highly recommend adding some red pepper flakes.👍👍👍

Found this recipe this morning and immediately got out of bed and made it. Fantastic! We had carrots, red cabbage and scallions. Turned out great. Will try again tomorrow & add small shrimp Going on the regular recipe roster now…

Things Marion says: - add some corn flour, or that’s corn starch for my friends in the US - miso paste. It adds the umami and makes it more beefy - soy sauce. I know, not your traditional ___ ingredient. - you can @ me in the comments 😂😂😂

Korean usually call this dish as yachajeon that mean vegetable pancake. But KimchiJeon is more popular. Or Pajeon made from green onion, wheat flour and red pepper. : )

Here in us and in Indonesia they are called fritters. I love the Indonesian ones. chopped hot peppers corn and scallions and shallots . One of food netward s people on( the best thing I have ever eaten ) said that was it . I think that is close for me also .

In Indonesia we call it 'bakwan', 'bala bala', or 'ote ote', depends on which part of Indonesia you're from

Omg, I just made these tonight. I was a bit skeptical and not a huge kimchi fan but I followed your recipe with zucchini, red bell pepper, kimchi, scallions, and carrots. Made the dipping sauce! Holy..this was outstanding! Definitely going to make this again..besides, I've got a large bottle of kimchi to use up! 🤣 Thanks for a great recipe. 😊👍

A favorite of me and my husband. I like Vietnamese nuoc Cham sauce. Leftover bulgogi is good to add to pancake batter. I also like fermented bean paste, soy, black vinegar, and little oyster sauce- sauce with the pancakes. 🥰🌈 from Hawai’i

I think you can be really creative with the fillings. I have made ones with corn, shredded potatoes, bird-eye chili peppers, and so on. I also have seen others with shredded cabbages or with small shrimp inside too. But yeah, I think green onions are really important. If I don't have one around, I usually use regular onions or Asian chives.

Marion has actually made the "Corn flour/Corn starch" comment many times in other videos. It's more properly called Maize starch, which I've seen on some Aussie ingredient lists on products.

SO glad you came up with this recipe, I sometimes feel a deep want to eat junk/street/comfort food when I am a bit down or hangover (and I know this is bad but hey, french wine you guys is something you can't say no to), and these pancakes are a great solution to enjoy a fridge full of veggies when you don't want to be healthy, it just tricks you !

Filipinos have that recipe but they called it Ukoy made of bean sprouts, shredded pumpkin n carrot mix with shrimps n tofu😁it was so good

Yum, will give this a go tomorrow night. I remember you from Masterchef, my most favourite programme, it's actually one of the very few programmes my Husband and I watch together. What I like about Marion’s recipes is that she don’t use a ton of ingredients. Like I love Moochi but she loves her authentic korena recipes and I tried to make a few and by the time I was done I spent a time of time prepping and getting ingredients rounded up. Don’t get me wrong. I love to watch her cook but I can’t cook like her. Marion is more my style

I make veggie pancakes all the time when I need to use up old courgettes and broccoli, but I'll try this batter recipe next as it looks waaaay lighter and crispier than mine. Thanks for sharing, Marion! xx

Does zucchini (couchettes?) add water into the batter as it cooks? I love adding shredded zucchini into scrambled eggs or omelettes, but usually need to cook it down for a bit to keep it from making thing’s watery

I am going to make this tomorrow morning with Paleo pancake mix and add some potato starch flour in it. This should be delicious, I usually make it without the starch but I will do it this way.

for the best outcome put onions and perilla leaves as well and pan-fry them with lard or toasted perilla oil.

We have something similar in the Caribbean. We call it accras. Mostly with salted fish and lots of finely chopped herbs. But the same batter.

You can make this with only flour too, no need for all the extra ingredients. Tiny bit of flour, a bit of water and tons of whatever veggies you have around.

Thanks for the recipe! This will be definitely on my family's Chinese New Year menu, especially on the 1st day of Chinese New Year as will be observing vegetarian diet (just do not want to start the new lunar year by killing animal and to collect merits).
