In WW1 some Carabinieri troops did use the standard Adrian helmet, usually with nice ornaments on the front. During WW2 the Carabinieri had issued their own helmets, M33's, painted black with a silver symbol in front for the ones operating in Italy and standard green-gray with black symbol for the ones operating on the battlefield. It was uncommon to find some with bicorns during WW2, especially on the frontlines.

About the Carabinieri, a very good amount of them stayed loyal to the Italian crown and were most happy to arrest Mussolini when the orders were given out. I'm sure it had to do with how he was handling the war effort for Italy, but of course, there are other reasons. Mad respect to them from a Greek. P.S, yes, the video pointed some parts of how they joined the resistance and so on, but come on, sounds very chad of them to do so

The video made me interested in what the Carabinieri do nowadays. It was interesting to read how many Afghans the Italians were able to evacuate from Kabul earlier this year due to their somewhat unique emphasis on crowd control training which other countries' special forces lack. That dual combination of police and military roles packs quite a punch.

@FunkyRezable

If I remember correctly Carabinieri is the Italian armed force deployed in most country in the world (e.g KFOR has a good amount of Carabinieri in it) mainly for peacekeeping and police service. Carabinieri besides all jokes we make in Italy are a really appreciated, efficient and unique gendarmerie force, military trained and focused more on de-escalating potential dangerous situations than then use of violence. And one of the most peculiar thing about Carabinieri is their ubiquity on the territory. Every small town, small city, border has its own Carabinieri's Station (with maybe 2 or 5 people inside) and a lot of people in small towns knows personally the chief of the station and maybe they even drink with him on saturday nights. This tend to build up a general good relationship between Carabinieri and the people that you can rarely see in other Police Forces.

A small clarification, the name for the carabinieri guarding the king was "carabinieri: guardie del re" the kings guard basically, to enter you had to be 1,90 meters tall, and they later came to be known as Corazzieri, or as they say in french Curraissers, as of today they still have their role, but instead of guarding the king, the guard the president of the republic. ;) @Simple History

Tiny mistake: even when discussing the "Royal" Carabinieri, the hat badges show "RI"--Republicca Italiana ("Italian Republic"). They use that nowadays, but before used the Royal Monogram---for example, "VE" for "Vittorio Emmanuele" (the 2d or 3d)
