What was meant to be an ongoing series was derailed by my going to grad school and starting a family! At any rate, I have plans for additional videos and a podcast. Stay tuned!

My favorites so far are the 1st and 4th. The first is one of the great Samurai era films, and to me the second and third were Ichi finding his character. There the core of Ichi is born. His character reminds me somewhat of Chaplin's Little Tramp- no matter what foulness he encounters he still retains a sharp sense of right and wrong and is faithful to his idea of justice and values- no matter what, you can't get him down for long. I particularly liked the 4th film, Zatoichi the Fugitive, toward the end. After Tane is murdered by her Samurai husband, Ichi goes into a berserk fit of righteous rage over her killing. Tane has played a significant role in his life since the first film, and as the Samurai dies he tells Ichi that Tane is the one that betrayed him, all for money. Ichi refuses to believe it- "You are trying to kill my beautiful dream!" That resonated with me. Thanks for your comments on the Zatoichi films. Takeshi Kitano's 2003 version has the core of Katsu's creation, a highly developed sense of justice, and his love of the common man vs. the ruthlessness of authority. There were a few nice twists, and being over-the-top with the action was fun. But you just can't beat Katsu's portrayal of the masseur wandering lonely, friend to all and foe of corruption and abuse of power. I have worked my way through half the movies; my goal is to collect them all.

Great! By the way, recently a book about Zatoichi has been released on Amazon! It is "Shintaro Katsu´s Zatoichi: Complete guide to all movies" Awesome stuff! 😀

As i watch the other samurai movie, i think the zatoichi still the best to watch its becoz its not easy to act as a blind katana warrior and one thing he has hs own style in handling the sword, unlike the other movie too many tricks, zatoichi looks realistic and defender of the masses. I luv it! More more movie pls?
