In this edition of Talking insomnia we get to know Bailey, a graduate of our Insomnia immunity program.
After losing smell and taste during a COVID infection in early 2021, Bailey was worried about her health and started having trouble sleeping. The initial sleepless nights evolved into a many month intense struggle including taking a leave from work. At one point, she even thought of giving away her beloved horses, one of which she has had since the age of eleven.
Today, Bailey is back where she once feared she never would be. She is back in the saddle and enjoying life to the fullest.

For sure the fight of flight takes over, the insomnia takes over. Feels very isolating also because people don’t understand the ongoing stress of severe insomnia. Thanks for sharing and good luck going forward

Thank you, Bailey, for pointing out not only what a blessing privacy can be, but also that undue focus on ANY perceived blessing, can exacerbate sleeplessness. Thanks also for talking about how isolating insomnia can be. 🙏 Coach Daniel, repeated thanks for providing plentiful SCS success stories for folks like me to watch. 🙏 🙏 🙏

Hi Bailey! Just wanted to ask, where you taking the meds when you decided to back to work? Or did you decided to go back with all force knowing you will have struggle to sleep?

I hope Bailey is reading comments here because I've been where she was (and I continue to struggle after 18+ months). Once you accepted wakefulness and gave up the fight, how long did it take to start recovering? I think my biggest fear in fully letting go (and trust me, I'm getting sick of this tug-of-war) is that I'll experience sleepless nights for quite a while before turning the corner. I know everyone is different, but I'm hoping my recent speed bump (currently at three nights of little sleep) is the beginning of the end of the struggle if I continue to stay calm while lying fully awake in bed. (I'm trying to embrace the ACTi way of ending the struggle.)

A big help was talking to Michelle and Daniel in the first place, reading both of Daniels books, doing the program and really letting things percolate. It takes time and you can’t be thinking all the time of when this is going to end. I also found journaling my thoughts everyday when I felt really bad were super helpful. I don’t know how else to describe it other than I just felt really terrible, depressed and weak after the high anxiety was over. The hyper sleep was very stressful for me too. But after working through the program and continuing to live my life and not give up anything it got better. When I don’t sleep it’s not a thing anymore. It’s not a priority because I know I can sleep and will. Overall it took a year and a half I would say from start of “incident” to recovery. I’m just my normal sleeping self now. Some nights are restless and other nights I’m like a log and sleep through sirens 😂 just completely normal. You’re not alone and it’s not unique! Which is a good thing btw. I hope this is helpful 😊 Ohhh and Alena’s channel was also super amazing for my road to recovery!!!

@@baileynickel Thanks for the reply, Bailey. I really appreciate it. While I can't afford to do 1:1s with Daniel or Michelle, I can bookmark helpful videos and especially comments like yours that put everything into perspective. I imagine I'm pretty similar to you in that I have nights where I don't remember falling asleep, don't recall waking up once, and am basically startled by my 6AM alarm, and then I have other nights where I can't seem to fall asleep for the life of me. The difference is how I handle that vs. how you well you handle it. I'm getting there, and I know it'll take time to work through all the speed bumps and rough nights. Oh, and I love Alina's channel and Web page, too. She's great! I hope to see you on this channel more often. People like you, John Monk, Lester Green, and LovelySee have valuable feedback that really resonates with all of us. Take care!

You are going to be okay, trust me I've gone through this and stayed calm and have told myself sleep is something I don't have to force because my body and brain already knows. And I'm making this comment today when I didn't get much sleep last night probably because I'm stressed out of my work right now. But that's okay. I know it was just that and that it doesn't matter and I going to go work today much more than I worked yesterday and everything is gonna be okay.

@@soumyasinha5015 Thanks! I appreciate you reaching out to me. :-) Since I posted that comment nine days ago, I've actually done much better (though obviously still a ways from getting beyond insomnia). I really do need to remind myself that sleep happens on its own--it's not something I can force. And regardless of how well I've slept, I'll be okay. There's nothing to fear. Let it go and trust that my body will get what it needs. Some days I just need stronger reminders, I think. ;-) Have a great day!

Hi Hemant, I think what really helps is to think about this, when we want peace, our means must be peaceful. When we look to beat something, there will be a fight that often leaves us with choppy sleep and a headache!

It is not 100% yet but it is close to 90% . If you have the opportunity please give it a shot
