Kelsey's sister, Jenna, really wanted a way to section off her closet area from the rest of her bedroom and make her closet feel more like a walk-in. After seeing her many renderings, we were intrigued by the idea of a dresser that also acts as a room divider to section off the space, so we upcycled Jenna's old dresser to make it happen!
IN THIS VIDEO:
00:00 - Intro
02:54 - disassembling the dresser
04:02 - going to the hardware store
04:30 - building the dresser/shelf unit
05:30 - thredUP delivery
07:05 - trying on clothes from thredUP
08:29 - building the shelf
10:59 - staining and painting the shelves
11:27 - going to the thrift store with Jenna
12:53 - finishing touches
15:18 - the big reveal!

Looks nice but didn't give her more closet space at all. I would have gone with the wardrobe idea and added to the top of it to go to the ceiling. Would have then added a shelf to back of wardrobe to create a bedside table. It does look nice though, I'd just want more enclosed closet space.

@jethro4453
@jethro4453 2 жыл бұрын
@@kebert2thumbsup yeah I think if the dresser was a little wider, it would've given more of that "separated dressing area" feel. But I will give the benefit of the doubt because it's hard for me to gauge off of the video how much space there is between the door and the end of the divider. Maybe there just isn't enough clearance for a wider divider

So many thoughts...did Kelsey's pants change between getting into her car and getting out? didn't anybody catch the "Sister THIFT Day"? The divider is a missed chance at adding wardrobe hanging and drawer space toward the already-there closet (which would give her half again more closet) and an art wall with a small lower shelf toward the bed for a meaningful art piece and side table. Was the jagged line between wall colors intentional? There are so many colors that would go better with that dark green. Even after all that said, if Jenna likes it, nothing else matters.

I only have a small space with 2 rods between a wall and a fireplace that used to be a doorway to the living room and I have been trying to find a good way to make it into an actual closet space. Ah, the green on every wall made the room feel so small :( Perhaps the wall behind the bed could be fully green (the other walls white again) and paint the dresser to match so it feels more like an extension of the wall. Also, that paint line... was it intentional because it would drive me crazy! I'm glad she likes it, that's just what stands out to me personally.

I always enjoyed your smaller projects, but I’m blown away but what you’re all willing to take on now! I never, ever understood how much went into a video, I always wanted you to post new ones daily! BUT, because your team has shown how much work goes into each one, it makes sense (still doesn’t stop me, from wanting a daily video from you folks) 🤣. You run a successful business, learn new skills all of the time and keep everything fresh. I’m a bit of a boring style person, so, I don’t always love the colour choices, but always appreciate the talent, skill and risk taking. Keep it up team TSG! P.S. I am much (yuck) older than your target demographic and still love it all! I hope you take time to congratulate yourselves and each other, on what you’ve created!

I miss understood the shelf portion. I thought it was going to be part of the closet as shelves. It's way cute that way. But a back on it toward the bed area & the storage you would have for clothes would be super amazing. You could also add doors & what a wardrobe piece that would be. I guess it depends on if you are going for clothes storage or cute decor pieces. It would work either way.

you girls should try stoggles safety glasses. I use them for work and they are super cute and safety approved. they are a bit pricey but I think they are a must.

I think Jenna loves the color green. I remember when they made over her former place, they also used green paint. I kinda like this shade of green though, it's such a mood.

Idk if it’s already been done, but I’d totally watch a video on how much diy stuff Kelsey can fit into her little Honda Fit lmao. I’ve seen her put so many different things in there.

my childhood bedroom had a wall made from 3 of the giant white IKEA closet. It's a nice way to add another room without having to build another wall and you can move/remove them around whenever.

Cool project and would be fun to watch a re-do in future to see how else you could spin it. I liked shelf/dresser separator hack. Echo some of the comment re jagged paint lines but maybe this was intentional. In terms of wall paint, I wonder what it would like if you just did a dramatic accent wall in that faux walk-in closet space area only, like floor to ceiling. That might allow you to create a stronger sense of separate spaces, while retaining the white room and bright freshness for the bed area. Also, maybe a longer/heavier curtain over the actual closet for a more luxurious feel? More!

I think add a chair next to the partition, facing closet - to extend the partition / dressing room feel. And then choose a larger rug to really ground the dressing area. Or layer rugs.

The room looks nice but are you going to back and make the line between the green and white - straight? Or was it intentional to leave it like that?

Design runs in the family :) loved the colours, just a couple of suggestions: 1) maybe some knobs in the wall between wardrobes for hanging bags and on top of that a shelf for accessories and a mirror? etc 2) why not integrate the back of the new piece and build like a night stand?

Ooops, pre drilling the cabinet top to fit the shelving unit before install would have been an idea to avoid that boo boo. (& I forsee someone going to move that without detaching it from the ceiling in the future and ripping holes in the ceiling!) & I had hoped that you were going to do some sort of cool detail on the dresser back as it was facing the bed to make it a bit interesting on both sides rather than just leaving it as the plain tan paint, missed opportunity for a focal point. The sanded and restained drawer fronts looked lovely on the other side
@Hmd938

Agreed, maybe some shelving on the opposite side would have helped. I honestly think this is a great project for someone else’s space.
