Testing out how well an air conditioner will work during the summer in an ice fishing shelter.
I just used a portable air conditioner from home, not the most efficient model due to the one hose design. This would work much better with a window unit rigged up somehow or a two-hose air conditioner.
I was concerned about how much heat the shelter would hold as the sides are quite dark in color. I camped with all the trappings of luxury this week and it was a great success. Just a normal campground with a power site, but this told me what I needed to know.

You know, one of the many things I like about this channel is that the mic picks up lots of fun sounds: the crunching of the ground under feet, zippers, the material from the tent, birds in the background, the crisp crack of a step two, etc. It’s a sensory transport.

I started watching your videos as just a completely random youtube suggestion but I have binge watched at least 15 eps over the last few days and I am strangely hooked. Your videos aren't flashy or over produced or even overly exciting honestly. There's no click bait or fake drama or any of that. I think the reason i'm hooked is because you seem like such a genuine down to earth good natured guy. I love your slow paced relaxed style, I really get the sense you genuinely love doing this and would do it even if there wasn't a camera. You have a really trustworthy demeanour somehow and I really enjoy watching you do your thing. Just wanna say thank you for the interesting and lovely content from a gal down under who a week ago would have NEVER given this type of video a second glance 🤣

I agree. I discovered the channel the same way a couple of years ago. I love camping and grew up going with my family but my family did it because we weren’t well off and it was inexpensive. That said, we had no rules to define what a camping trip should be which is similar to how Steve does things. For example, my family would eat out sometimes and go to local attractions. We would also try crazy recipes and my father would try “inventive” ways to start the campfire. I am kind of surprised he lived so long!

Dude, I subscribed because I thought your stealth camping videos were interesting, despite being something I never thought I would do. But hitting up a powered campsite with a portable AC and an insulated tent, pure genius. The whole reason I don't enjoy camping in the summer is the heat. Just be mindful of these ac units, they eat power. Rented a finished loft in a steel barn from a family friend, used one of these units for a week before being told to quit it, running the central air for the whole building was cheaper.

I just got done camping for the 4th of July with a dome tent and a portable air conditioner and it was 90s outside. The regular tent cooled down so much that my wife and I had to cover up with the blankets. The only thing that was an inconvenience was that it kept filling up with water because of how humid it was and we didn't have a spare garden hose for it to drain out of the tent.

Love your great use of hyperlapse... Been camping for 68 years, using foil for potatoes and other items for 68 years, and at 76 still camping, so the foil won't shorten one's life enough to matter, in my opinion at least... We use a similar portable AC in our upstairs bedroom as our older house does not have an upstairs dedicated AC. It isn't great and it is noisy, but it is better than not having it, and once you get used to the noise, it may help with sleep. A few years back we had a motorcycle pull behind pop up tent with a Velcro opening for a regular window AC, but it had no insulation. It got hot during the day, but worked great in the evening and for sleeping. When I joined the military in 1965, they were still Using WWII military cots, and guess what yours is made like, but they were heavy canvas and took two people to attach the last cross bar on the end... Been doing the foil pouches for years, but we often put a burger or chicken breast in the pouch for a one piece meal, but always carry tongs to save the fingers... 😎

Ed, The problem with people is there are lots of 'Garretts' out there. Unhappy generally and want to bring down others to make themselves feel better. I try to not get angry about it and typically feel sorry for people like that. I know that the egg in tin foil thing didn't go as planned, but have you ever tried the egg in a zip top bag trick? You will need a pot of boiling water, so it doesn't alleviate you of all utensils, but it is super easy clean up. The trick is to save some of your onions/mushrooms/meat from the night before and toss them in your bag. Next morning crack a couple eggs into the bag, shake it up and dip it into a pot of water that just came to a boil. Voila! Instant easy camping omelette with almost no cleanup!
