I had ptsd flashbacks watching this cause 5 years ago I was off-roading near monarch pass in Colorado (by myself like an idiot) and there was a section just like that with the snow on a steep hill that was loose material underneath. I didn't bother to shovel the snow tho, and the back end of my truck got pushed off the trail by the snowbank and the rest followed, I rolled at least 6 times probably 400 feet down the mountain and the roof was crushed down to the dash. I only survived cause of my seat-belt, but have no idea how I wasn't paralyzed, much less managed to hike down the mountain to call an ambulance. I still off-road, but I get panic attacks when I get near ledges now.

You’re right back in 1985 I was on a back country road in southern Utah. About 2 hours into a 6 hour cross country off road trip with my 4+4 Ranger I found a guy in a rear wheel drive Datsun pickup. It was all muddy on the trail and he wanted me to pull him out all the way to the hi way and I refused. He had food and water so I told him to wait in till the road dried out.

Very nice vid n and what an awsome advanture trail. What is the peak elevation? I wish you show us a glimp of how you turn around the vehicle. When you walked up to the peak it reminded me of my experience....i had to crawl back down too afraid to walk down streight up right coz of then loose rocks and drops...thats how scary it looks to me!!!! The trail and sceneries are awsome but scary...once on the trail from the sub peak to the peak there is no turning back....
@downhillupside
@downhillupside 3 жыл бұрын
I think peak elevation is a bit misleading for the coastal BC mountains. For example, Pike's Peak highway starts at 7400 feet and finishes 14100 feet, a change of 6700 feet. Garibaldi mountain is at 8700 feet and sits right beside Squamish BC, which is at sea level, for a change of 8700 feet (though there's no road up there). Basically, our base elevation is often at or nearer sealevel, whereas a lot of the mountainous parts of the US are already at higher base elevation.

I loved the statement "where your fear meets your confidence". Hits home on many levels. I've watched all of your videos. The only thing I would add to your statement is when your fear meets your confidence and where your skill matches your confidence. When you first started this channel of off road adventures, the only criticism I ever had was your throttle control. It seemed rather jerky at the beginning but it was perfectly fine for what you were doing at the time. It never needed mentioning. With that said, this road requires almost perfect throttle and brake control, you my friend, have learned your Jeep well and nice job getting that under your belt. Your skill level has jumped tremendously. Great work man. Love the channel, and always look forward to your videos.

The Story Till Now Fair enough, just seems really suspect that this all happened around the same time. I feel that lady you encountered in the first attempt used this as a trigger. We all need to keep these places open and reduce stress on them at the same time. I have been up there over the years and see the impact added exposure has brung. If everyone would just learn to stay on the trails and pack out what you pack in it would be a better place. We keep losing more and more, platforms like KZfaq and Geo tagged photos make it so easy to find now. This is not a you problem it’s a society problem. People now don’t want to put in the leg work and the weekends driving down dead ends in hopes of finding an epic spot at the end. They want to know what to expect and get that win. I’m partly to blame for slipping into that mentality as we’ll. But even people doing that must respect the areas and make it cleaner than when they arrived.

We were there on July 11, 2020, and I think we were the first one to try climbing this year. We shoveled 2 patches of snow along the first switch-back road but the third one was a huge pile of snow so we had to turn around on a very narrow trail. We ended camping at the lower meadows for 2 nights where we had a snow and hail storm. Pretty epic!
