2021 Acura TLX Type S vs 2021 Genesis G70 review by The Straight Pipes. The Genesis G70 is putting down 368 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque from a Twin Turbo 3.3L v6 & The Acura TLX is putting down 355HP and 354 lb-ft of torque from a 3L Turbo V6. At $59,000 CAD for the G70 and $60,500 CAD for the Type S, which one would you take?

I'm due for tires. Why am I looking at conti extremes. Or right, your subliminal harassment. 😂
@taelorwatson9822
@taelorwatson9822 2 жыл бұрын
@@natewhite8845 I got the first gen contextreme DWS. Thankfully they improved them. I think they're going for the third gen of them. The first gen had way too soft of a sidewall. It also took a long time for the release of fluid that is used to release the tread from the mold too long to fall off. Turn out to be a very slippery tire at first. The extreme ones are made for the American market. For the most part I prefer Michelin. But I get my michelins used. I pay less than half the price and they last a couple years. I doubt new ones would last more than three on my car cuz I can't rotate. The new Falken's are very good

Oh, I mean the conti extreme contacts, not the dws, I don't need all that here in socal. I'm on Falken 510s now, and while they are amazing, they didn't last very long. Excellent tires though.

I test drove a new TLX A-Spec recently and thought it was very nice. Not German luxury car level, but very good. I think for a $53K (USD) car though, the Type S falls short. Acura needed to step it up for that version. I test drove the last gen G70 Sport (w/6-speed manual) a couple years ago and thought it was pretty nice, but again not German luxury level. The new G70 looks nicer, but I’ve not been in one yet.

people who are too young to get it might make fun of Acura, but no matter what new buyers think Acura is a luxury brand kinda in the same league as Germans but Genesis is a Korean car! residual value of Acura is 50% after 4 year lease, Genesis is around 30%! that should tell you something about reliability. Not to mention badge recognition and relative prestige you get on Acura compared to a brand like Genesis!

I had a 2022 Type -S, this was my 11th Acura over the past 20 years. I had to sell it back to my dealer for almost a year I could not get the Apple Car Play to work or my backup camera. Honda Canada would do absolutely nothing for me, they even sent a tech out from Ontario to work on it and he could not fix it. I am so disappointed with Honda Canada & the way I was treated, even after all the cars I bought over the years. If they treated me like this imagine what they would do to a first-time owner ...Other than that the Type-S was an awesome ride ...I may not buy another Acura after all of this BS.

I've got a Stinger GT2 AWD and an MDX Advance with SH-AWD. Not exactly the same cars here, but similar because the Kia is basically a G70 with a usable backseat and the hatch is awesome. Love it, but I am a bit of a car slut so 2 years is usually about as long as I hold onto something. My point is that the TLX was something that I was interested in because of the experience with the MDX. That SH-AWD is no joke and I believe that the TLX is a double wishbone like the MDX and it does make a difference to me. My thinking is that if the MDX can feel as small and sporty when driving it then the TLX should be amazing. Problem is that the backseat and trunk are a major step back from the Stinger. For a car that is that damn long (it is not a small vehicle) it has to have a semi-usable backseat. The real problem is that I just love the Stinger more than I thought that I would for this long. Biggest problem I have is that the wife has discovered sport mode and enjoys taking out people at the stop lights. I didn't realize that I married a 16 year old boy.

I feel that the Type-S could've been so much more especially considering it's an all-new everything basically. They put driving dynamics top priority as it should be at Honda. The problem is that it came at a significant cost. Small interior/trunk for its external dimensions. Heaviest in the class which cost it in acceleration. Sure, once you get going or are on a track, the dynamics shine and it feels light on its feet, but does it necessarily translate to a quicker lap time? I think that's where Acura could have gotten a bit more aggressive with keeping the weight in check or at least given it more power (380 range).

@@IReahpZz what's funny is Acura of North America brought out an S4 test car on the launch of the TLX type S to show that the TLX is superior, and even let journalists drive both back to back. But after the car was actually released, it was discovered that the S4 is still faster and handles better, contrary to the results from the Type S launch event. Many are speculating that the S4 at the Type S launch was detuned in order to underperform, which is really sketchy on the part of Acura's marketing department.

But straight isn't that impressive. And with this boring engine and transmission, it isn't even fun to drive. You know what is fun to drive? Pretty much what I got out of the video is that they Acura is the better handling car, and the G70 has the edge, a good edge in the acceleration. So if Acura pays any attention at all to what it's customers want, they would try to beef up their powertrain to match their competitors, and they would have a winner. That 3.3 liters vs the 3.0 liters seems to give the G70 the edge it needed.

I'm a fan of Honda/Acura generally, but of these two, I'm probably going for the smoother more supple ride in the Genesis G70. Test drove the GV70 SUV relatively recently and was simply blown away at how impressive it was - trading in my Mazda SUV for the Genny when it's time..

It’s a fun ride but it won’t be a car that will last you past 10 yrs. That is the honest truth

The warranty is so good that they’ll basically fix all the problems for 10 years.

I actually went and drove one and it was a little disappointing. It’s a lot slower than my M340i. Also the markup on the type S was crazy. I only paid $54k for my 2021 m340i since I got a $7k discount from the dealership and the Type S with markup was $67k. Definitely not worth the money.

Might as well go for an IS 500 at that point. M340i > IS 500 > tlx type s

3.8 vs 4.2 0-60, relax. Also you can grab a base 3.3tt for $45k. Talk about $ to performance, it wins hands down.

@@PatC1 4 tenths is a bus by 60 and only gets worse the farther you go. 340 is far above its class and I'm not a BMW boy. If all you want is straight line in the price range buy a Tesla m3p. Mops everything in its price range of 60k.

@@IReahpZz I'm a Acura/Honda fan boy so the TLX all day. Almost anything in its class is faster but these days with the electric cars, street horsepower don't exist anymore lol

@@bbbt8090 that's fine you can absolutely like the car for looking good I think it looks extremely striking. I'm just disappointed by performance. If it was like the is500 with soul and an exhaust note to match I could forgive it but it's trying to be German and losing in the Germans favorite department, numbers and capability. I was excited for it when it was released hoping to see 400+ hp but at its current performance level it definitely turned me off. Which is a shame because inside and out looks wise it's exciting.

I don't want to drift. That's the point. Acura precision engineering, quality, looks, and resale all day.
