Let us not forget a brave woman called LILLIAN BILLOCCA who campaigned tirelessly to save the lives of many fishermen everywhere including ST ANDREWS DOCK. Although the fishing industry collapsed in the City Of Hull in the seventies Lillian saved more lives because of what she believed in. God bless you and all those who never returned. A moving video with a beautifully haunting and poignant song. Nov 2020 🙏❤🙏❤🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

I came across this video by accident while looking for a music video. many It brought back memories from this terrible time I trained at the same radio college in Aberdeen as Roland Thomson, the R/O on the Ross Cleveland. I also sailed out of Hull on Boyd Line's Arctic Brigand prior to these three ships going down. Roland came from a farming family just outside Ellon near Peterhead, engaged to a girl also from Ellon who was training as a hairdresser in Aberdeen. Roland had decided that this was going to be his last trip, sadly it was. I had never seen the photos of the crews lost, it was sad to see so many youngsters who had been around the same age as myself who never saw home again. Rest in Peace lads.

God bless them all and many more who have suffered life or limb since. I was 17 at this time, like several of the lads lost yet I still remember their tragic loss.

Thanks for your reply Bonnie . Yes we go down there for the services also and Holy Trinity Market Place and St Andrews. It was such a bad winter that year such a hard and very sad time for Hull and it took its toll on all the families who lost loved ones my mother died 4 years later in 1972 she was only 42 the tragedy never helped, that's why we must never ever forget them and all the others before and after whom lost there lives . I even named my son Michael after him he even looks like him . R.I.P to all of them God bless.@@Sweetbutapsycho4

Walter Snaddon went down on the St.Romanus, he's noted here but no photo...our family were poor? He was my grandma's brother. Beloved man, I've heard good stories about him.

I'm from Peterhead and went to sea through the 80s 90s and into the 2000s and have seen more than my share of tragedies. I was aboard the Ulysses when she sank in a storm in the Frigg gas field in the Norwegian sector early 87 but we were all lucky and we're rescued by helicopter. My heart goes out to the friends and family of fisherman that went to sea and never came home.......

Can I as anyone who knows… would radio operating be a full time job in those days? Meaning they were literally tied to the radio room all shift, or did they do other jobs as well? Thanks.
