I tried to open my cassette top this afternoon and it was seized and I abandoned ship before one of the plastic pieces broke. I consulted YT and came across your video demonstration of the exact same thing I was trying to achieve. Magic. Thank you so much for uploading this.

Great video, always nice to have a solution if the tank plate is stubborn, however it is worth pointing out this method can not be used on the older Thetford C200 cassette (grey cassette with yellow buttons/knobs) or you will most certainly damage the slider mechanism as the plate is secured with eight screws to the cassette.

Great tip I wish I had viewed this before I replaced my lip seal. Getting the top off when it had been in situ for many years was a real challenge. I tapped all round with a rubber mallet then used a piece of wood and tapped against the channel to gently free it up. Your method would have been much simpler ! The components are in a horrible state so I am now cleaning everything. Thanks !

Hi Keith, great tip. however after trying your method to unscrew the access panel I noticed 2 screws I removed these and it still wouldn't move. I then removed the 2 covers from the sides to reveal a futher 6 screws, after removing these the whole access panel just lifted out. Maybe this is due to the age of the caravan (2006). I am unable to atatched a photo.

Hi Folks,thank you for the informative video, newbie here so all tips are welcome,would it be wise to use bleach/detol to clean inside of cassette ?
@keithandmichele
@keithandmichele 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick, Many thanks for your kind words 👍🏻 As we have said in many of our videos, we’re not experts, just sharing our experiences & tips that we have picked up along the way. With this in mind, personally we wouldn’t use bleach in the toilet cassette as this could be harmful & react to the plastic & rubber seal. When we clean ours, we use Milton sterilising fluid which is effective yet gentle & readily available in supermarkets. Every few months, for a deep clean, we use this method, filling the cassette right to the top with a mixture of Milton & water & leave it in the car whilst driving to agitate it. This gives a thorough clean. Hope this helps 👍🏻 Keith & Michele.

Hi, I can tell this has been up awhile, but I’ll ask. I have that cassette toilet. Just unboxed. I cannot at this point pull the cassette out. I’ve read the manual that says it should come out without force. So I have not forced it. I’ve made sure the blade is closed. Any suggestions?
@keithandmichele
@keithandmichele 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, assuming you lift the front lever high enough over the lip and the blade is closed, the cassette should slide out without force. Never force it as this could do more damage. Apart from opening & closing the blade a few times we would recommend seeking assistance from your dealer or a mobile engineer. Keith & Michele

Appreciate you replying to my question. Am I right in thinking not when the cassette is inserted?
@keithandmichele
@keithandmichele 5 жыл бұрын
When you insert the cassette into the caravan, the slider will automatically slide open. When you remove the cassette from the caravan the slider then slides into the closed position. We would highly recommend that you do not remove the slider when inserting the cassette back into the caravan, it is there for a purpose. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.

@keithandmichele

Rub Vaseline around the seal from first use. Job done. It stays sealed and easy to remove. Its like rubbing oil around your pressure cooker seal. Removing the lid saves the seal and also acts as a seal barrier also. Job done no need for a chunk of wood. If you have no Vaseline? cooking olive oil will do the job also.

Cool tip, so whats the magnet for ?
@keithandmichele
@keithandmichele 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, The magnet is connected to the float & as the float rises the magnet triggers a sensor which activates a light on top of the toilet to indicate when the cassette is full. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, Keith & Michele

I used the bit of wood and the side still snapped. The design of the longer cassette with yellow knobs is better, as the sides can easily be replaced - they just snap on and off.

Hi Joe. Don’t think the cassettes are interchangeable. Many thanks for watching, Keith & Michele

@@keithandmichele I realise that the cassettes are not interchangeable, but Thetford should consider adapting the design of all their cassettes to make them more user friendly.

I’ve been caravaning for 20yrs and I’ve only removed that part once. That’s a brand new cassette, not so pleasant taking apart one that’s been used for a few years

Hi, We tend to deep clean our cassette at the end of every season as this removes any limescale & debris that may have built up. Using this technique allows you to do this more frequently without fear of breaking it. Thanks for watching, Keith & Michele

My top tip is to not actually use it as a toilet i.e. don’t take a crap in them. Use a bag - once past the initial revulsion, it’s a game changer.

What's the magnet for?
@keithandmichele
@keithandmichele 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, The magnet is attached to the float which rises as the cassette fills up. It activates a sensor when the cassette is full & illuminates the light on the top of the toilet, letting you know that it needs emptying. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.

@@keithandmichele Ah okay. This might be a daft question (there's every chance, lol) but does this only apply to electric toilets? Mine's a manual one.
@keithandmichele
@keithandmichele 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Not a daft question whatsoever. If your toilet has an indicating light then the magnet will activate this. Don’t really know about manual toilets 🤔 Sorry we can’t be of more help. Hopefully someone else will read this & help with a comment 👍🏻 Many thanks, Keith & Michele.

@@keithandmichele Yes it was not the float magnet that was dislodged, someone not me had lost a tap and hose connector with about 5" of hose attached inside the cassette well this probably came from a toilet disposal point and fell in, all fixed now and seals sprayed with Thetford Lube, many thanks for the tips.
