Disney theme parks are the happiest, most magical places on Earth. But they didn’t get that way by accident. A lot of work goes into preserving the magic. This includes the hiring process and employee guidelines. Not just anyone can walk in off the street and become a Disney princess. And it takes more skill than you think to wear one of those furry costumes.
In fact, Disney theme park cast members undergo rigorous auditions and training to be sure they are presenting the guests with the cream of the crop in entertainment and fun. We found some of the most ridiculous requirements for Disney cast members. Let’s just say some of these are pretty intense. There’s also a secret code that cast members use when communicating. Watch until the end to see what cast members say to difficult and rude customers. It’s pretty hilarious.

I remember when I went to Disney we were at the Cinderella restaurant, my cousin made a little ring out of a paper straw wrapper and we dared him to ask the evil step sisters to marry him but one of the step sisters from across the room saw the ring and came over and made him get down on one knee and have him propose to her it was so funny their great actors!!

(In case you don't have time to watch the whole vid, here's a short summary ;) 1. You are not allowed to say I don't know. You have to find a way to answer a question. 2. No tattoos allowed. 3. You always have to smile. 4. You must do training to get dancing/acting/accents right and have professional makeup/hair done. 5. No smoking, chewing gum, pointing, or breaking character. 6. You must undertake a 1-6 hour audition process. 7. You are required to watch your character in movies and practice their character. You must also learn a signature for your character. 8. You must pick up any trash you see on the ground, doing a graceful 'scoop and swoop' motion. 9. No talking about pop-culture or referencing it. 10. You must use secret codes. You are not allowed to say 'I play this character' you must say 'I am friends with this character'. You must say 'Code V' when a kid throws up. You must say 'we have a lost parent' when a kid is lost. You must say 'Have a Disney Day' when someone is being rude.

Okay that pointing rule is bullshit, I've seen every one of those fuckers point at something or someone. You just can't *not* point at something when it is most convenient. We all know that. And . . . . Who the fuck ever came up with that rule and why? Because pointing is rude? Bitch, please, I can find a plethora of things utterly disgusting to say, so you think pointing is rude, then I'm gonna say eat bird shit to Mickey Mouse and fucking Cinderella while air-jacking an invisible cock. They point and no one cares . . . . They casually just do it while talking too, so again, don't know where the rule came from, not even sure they're enforcing it. Probably because it's ridiculous and inconvenient. "You're not allowed to point on the job"! Well shit considered me fired, I just pointed at a piece of paper . . .

The pointing thing is actually you can't point with just your index finger, it has to be two so it's seen as more polite in different cultures. Also, pointing with two fingers is what Walt did, so they say it's sort of in his remembrance (though it's really just for the being polite to different cultures).

@@sarahglover4241 Well I see some do two fingers here in America, California, but a majority point with one, so I feel like no one cares about pointing, it is a very silly rule that is very impossible to work with. You will just always need to point at something. I doubt the supposed polite two-fingered pointing technique is remembered when they really need to point at something suddenly. Hey, where you want this package of uh . . . Mickey mouse hats? (*Points*) Over there. Who do I get to sign this? (*Points*) That guy. Where is the bathroom? (*Gives visual directions through pointing*) You wanna take a left at (this booth) then take a right at the first ride after that and go straight ahead, you'll find the sign. Sometimes you'll just forget because you're a normal fucking person. In a hot ass costume. A lot of things are on your mind if you don't like your job at Disneyland. One of them is not how polite your pointing is. Sometimes they are cheerful, not for long. It's Disney, a lot of their mottos are sort of catch 22's, it ain't exactly a magical place if you're the one making sure it stays that way. And the customers aren't exactly the happiest either, from what I have seen. . . . . It smelled horrid too . . . .

Dude this sounds so hard. A round of applause and respect to all the workers, seen and unseen to all the visitors. I work as a customer service agent and some of this rules I have to follow as well. Asking difficult questions for cast members is just an awful way of interacting with cast members. Not all guests are bad but when guests purposely try to annoy or pick fun with cast members it becomes especially difficult to do the job. Tattoos is not a strange requirement for a job it’s totally normal and you would t want to see a performer with a tattoo. Especially when you’re on stage you would want to be in costume with a personal tattoo. Having characters do training and grooming it’s 100% normal nobody wants an underqualified preformed on stage this list is crazy !!!!

So much of this is exaggerated. I was in entertainment during my College Program. You're taught how to do your makeup while a cosmetology cast member does it ONCE. After that, you do it yourself. You have to be approved by cosmetology before stepping out on stage, but you do not sit in a makeup chair every day to have someone else do your makeup.You are encouraged to practice makeup on your own at home.

Okay, but once you've left the company, what contract are you being held to that says Disney can sue me for saying I was "friends with" a character? There isn't one. Yes, it is ideal not to tell people, but the fact is that people talk and that's okay. The point is not to ruin the magic for children. In addition, there are other roles to fulfill as a cast member that have nothing to do with performing. You could work in food service or merchandise and still be a cast member.

There is another exception to the always smiling rule. The place the CMs do not have to smile at is at the Haunted Mansion ride. Since the story is their Master died. So the maids and butlers are in mourning. On the front door of the mansion that your pass while waiting in line. There is a black wreath on that front door. Anyways it is amazing what you can learn when you do the Keys to the Kingdom Tour. Now a quick hop over to Hollywood Studios. I have no idea if the CMs have to smile or not have to smile at the Tower of Terror Ride.

Video is mostly about Disney face character rather than a cast member. They aren't forbidden to saying " I don't know" We were allowed to say i don't know if we truly didn't know, or "i'm not sure but-" and recommend something else. We are allowed to talk about outside reference if the guest brings it up or we're on break. It's not that strict honestly, i worked at a park my first college program and we never use code words unless we spoke with custodial. I've heard really dumb stuff coming from guest all the time.

I remember I went to Disneyland on Halloween and we were in this restaurant, then tigger, pooh, eyore and piglet came up to our table in their Halloween costumes, so I asked “Can we have a group hug?” So we did and then they gave me this Winnie the Pooh cup and straw, and I’m like “thanks!” And then I say to my mum “I GOT FREE STUFF FROM WINNIE THE POOH.” And then I saw them giving the same thing out to every table and my mom is like “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

Quite a long time ago, I went to Disney World in Orlando a year or so after it opened. I was pregnant with my daughter at the time (she's now 44). I wish I could go back, now that I'm older and not throwing up every half hour, to actually enjoy the experience!

I love that the majority of cast members do day to day jobs but the world identifies them as princesses. Princesses make up about 1/64 of the cast members at the parks, maybe even less

If I was in charge, I'd DROP the smiling rule. The characters show ALL emotions in their films! The constant smiling is stupid; kids are NOT as braindead as Disney thinks they are, and they need discipline due to their CONSTANT screaming.

As much as I want to work as a princess when I'm in college, I don't think I'll make it. I probably won't meet the height requirement, (5'4"-5'7"), I can't keep a straight smile for 8 hours, and I don't think I could make a whole day without saying "I don't know". But based on my looks and voice, if I did play a part there, it would probably be Ariel, Rapunzel, and/or Belle.

I went to Disneyland and encountered a very RUDE Thor character. I was with my family and complained, but was told that is just Thor's nature. The next day (three day pass), we met a person playing Thor and he was much more friendly. We also saw Alice and the Mad Hatter. The characters were great and joked with my family. Now that I know they have unique autographs I will have to get a few autographs the next time I go with my family!
