I have a Fossil automatic skeletonized watch but it is one of the more tasteful ones. Some can be too open/big/gaudy so I get that people would not like those but a tastefully done semi open one that is not too over-sized looks really great in my opinion. Yeah I don't get the appeal of super plain dull pieces, especially ones that are super expensive. I mean what's the point of paying thousands for a dull watch that looks like every other $20 Ebay watch?
@TjPhysicist
@TjPhysicist 3 жыл бұрын
yea me too. Though one of the issues i have with skeletonized watches is when they're not well done, e.g too much exposure of the insides making it very hard to read the numbers and the hands against the moving metallic background (skeletonization needs to be balanced with good design for the face so it continues to be readable). OR, worst of all when the insidey bits aren't well made or polished so it looks super cheap bits of metal. (not doing super polishing and stuff on your insidey bits is more than ok esp for lower priced watches, but if you're exposing it, you need to be aware of that).

Fossil's automatic collection is at the entry level price for the automatic range and mostly people buying it are as their first automatic watch. So having a skeletal design to appreciate the movements of an automatic watch is a good thing.

@@ThrE3-GeS Sounds cool, but I'm not sure about the exact model. I bought two similar sounding Fossils though. Both had wide leather bands with brown watch face. I think Fossil watches are fine, generally. I think most watch reviewers undervalue the looks of watches at the entry level price points, they knock [brand] for having a "cheap" divers watch and present other brands as alternatives that usually either don't match the style or don't match the price point of the watches they're criticizing. At the end of the day, people who don't have the money to put into a $3000 watch collection usually want something that looks and feels nice and maybe is safe to walk out in the rain with for around $100. The biggest legitimate fault I find in these entry level watches is when they fake features that more expensive watches have, like having a Chronograph with no second markers (or in some really bad cases, chronograph dials and buttons that don't actually move at all) or when they have diver's watch bezels that are fixed and don't actually move. But unless you're looking for a high quality automatic watch, then why would you care that your Fossil has a quartz movement or a non-bulletproof water resistance rating?

The problem with videos that disrespect certain brands, like Fossil, is that they trigger my contrarian urges. I bought a Fossil chronograph for $40 at a pawn shop. It was apparently somebody's beater watch because it needed a new bracelet and some cleaning up. I did the cosmetic restoration and discovered a very nice watch. The thing is super accurate and is fun to wear when I'm dressed casually. It is now my beater watch, and I like it.

Thanks for stepping outside your box and reviewing Fossil watches. I have noticed a lot of videos from various people on KZfaq often talk about really expensive watches like Rolex (which I will never own as I just cannot see paying more than $1,000.00 for a watch and they are way over that). Or if they talk about affordable watches it is always the same brands like Timex, Seiko, Casio, Orient, etc. which is kind of frustrating because there are so many affordable watch brands out there nowadays but only the same handful of cheap heritage brands get mentioned. I do have a Fossil automatic and really love it. It is partially skeleton but not completely open and not one of the bigger ones. I actually enjoy it more than my Seiko 5 which is similar to the one you showed but in green. I am a bigger guy so the 37mm Seiko is just too small, I don't like the canvas band (I know I could change it), I don't like the small crown, and the Seiko 5 seems to have a shorter power reserve than my Fossil automatic (I have not done a scientific comparison and neither have much of a power reserve to be honest which I have no problem with because of the low price point). The Fossil automatic also had a band I was not thrilled with but I changed it out with a cool two-tone blue/gray band. Fossil bands (unlike Seiko) are quick release with a lever so you don't need any equipment to easily change out a band. I grew up on Fossil often going to their mall stores back when people went to malls and have always loved them and bought them for many years. They have tons of styles and way more variety than other more expensive fashion brands. Nowadays I always buy Fossil directly from their website. They have a decent warranty, come in a nice collectible tin (which you can sell separately if you want, and I have as some people collect the tins). The main reason I like Fossil and you touched upon it is that the pricing is very good, they do not gouge you on price and on the website they often have sales. So my automatic cost under $110 (originally priced $195) and the really surprisingly nice looking chronograph I recently bought on sale was just $59 (originally priced $125). So if I can get a nice Fossil watch for $59 that looks and feels nicer than a fashion watch that costs hundreds more I am very happy. Since they are a well known brand they are easy to sell too.

I really like Fossil Watches. I don't know why they get more love from watch enthusiasts. I know they aren't Seiko or Citizen or Orient, etc... But it doesn't take from the quality of the products. They have a great design. They're very reliable (my dad has 3 of them for 10+ years and I've owned 5+ years with no issues) The price is excellent, (not full retail). I have 3 automatics that I copped at $65-$80 on Marshalls. As much as I agree with your points. I was gifted a Fossil watch way back in college. That's more than a decade ago. I forgot this watch on my drawer and just found it again. It still works and it kept good time. Only losing a minute since it was in the drawer for how many unknown years. The reference number is FS4495. I remember the damages it had suffered while owning this watch. The numbers in the dial got knocked out because I dropped it. The leather strap has worn away so I got it replaced. The battery has died before so I also got it replaced. The replacement battery is better in everyway because it still kept the watch ticking while it was hidden in my drawer.

Lange & Sohne of any model. Big respect. I also find your delivery very entertaining and I laugh as much as I learn. Keep doing what you're doing dude. All this said, I couldn't leave without one small criticism, not aimed at you specifically (you are the product of your environment after all and it is this: I am English with a degree in English. I also speak Danish, German and some Spanish and Italian. From this education and background I feel qualified to correct you and your countrypeople on how to pronounce the letter 'A' in all of the languages I have learned. And not in one single of those languages is the standalone letter 'A' (as in 'Alan", "Lange", "Pasta" or "Costa" pronounced as "Ah". It is spoken as in the words 'At', 'Bad', 'Rat' and, even "That's Rad, man". While I am ranting, the same applies for the 'O' vowel. In every language I speak, 'O' in the middle of word (e..g. Costa... Rica) it sounds like the 'o' in 'of' and not as in 'coast'. You're not a conformist, I sense. So just say "NO" to fake English vowel sounds!!

Fossil was an impulse buy for me on vacation like 5 years ago. I've replaced the strap once and it's still running in my rotation. I've beat it up and wear it with normal clothing. It can work with a sport jacket just fine with its brown leather strap, cream dial, and open heart design. It's not crazy tough. Or quality exemplified. It's just a watch that works and is cheap enough you don't mind when you smack it into a wall. I have it, my seiko 5, and my casio royale as my day to day watches. It's getting less wrist time as my collection grows. But I still shake it up from time to time.

Hi Jory, Please talk in more detail about the watch in question like what are their movements, glass materials, performance(if possible). Please don't misinterpret. I'm a fan. I love how honest you are with your videos. I guess I'm looking for more objectivity so your viewers can decide for themselves if a watch is actually good or not. Then we can have a good discussion after.

Fossil Watches are not all automatics, are not all skeleton watches and are not all huge. That is the problem with filming a review just based on a Google search.

My respect lifted when you applaused fossil. I loved fossil when i was 15 and only hd a couple hundred dollars. If it wasnt for cheap watches that look cool 50% of watch enthusiasts wouldnt exist. Ill always respect them but i probably wouldnt buy one again. But its a great starter if you dont care about specifics

I love Fossils watches, and yeah they look similar, but dude, they are beautiful and masculine, i am a really big fan of the “Commuter” line, and they give me many complements too, but i would say that are for mens +24 years old. Oooh, and btw, your watch looks like an 70 years old lady watch, i would totally give my granny that watch for her birthday.

I completely understand that a lot of watch-related topics are just opinions. The fact is a smartwatch under $200 is much, much more functional than any high end luxury watches could ever be. Watches are now just accessories, jewelry pieces so pretty much it's all entirely opinions. Yes, you can make an argument for the movement inside a watch but they're just all excuses for splurging on watches in the 5 digits or more. Do I really care that my NH35 is off by 12 seconds or so every day? No, I can easily adjust it if it gets to a few minutes behind. So then you're pretty much asking if the trade off between a $500 watch that you have to adjust every few days and a watch 20 times that price is actually worth it in saving you a few seconds a week of adjusting time. Personally, I bought an automatic so that I can interact with it, and adjusting the time is 1 way that I can interact with my watch. It's literally all opinions at this point on if a watch looks good to someone or not. No one is going to actually wear a watch that has an amazing movement if it's got an ugly dial and case. With all that said. Fossil watches are shit lmao.

As an owner of a few Fossil made fashion house quartz watches, they've been treating me perfectly fine. I got a Burberry watch when I was in college and my now-wife gifted me a Armani watch when we were still dating and besides battery changes, they're still working perfectly fine and keeping good time. Neither of us knew any better about watches but they serve the purpose they were made for very well: fashion (and telling the time). It's an older video but it's refreshing to hear someone just talking about fashion watches for what they are!

I had a Fossil watch and I loved it. Right up till it got waterlogged when I was swimming at the beach after that it just became a memory in a time in my youth. About the Invicta watches I can say that I do like them as I am a collector of their watches and they do hold their value well. By the way that was a funny comment about the "two". HA! Good one.

I own 2 fossil watches and love them, great quality for the price and also unique designs. It won't hurt me if they break, or scratch, unlike a Rolex watch, that I'll be saving 6 months to afford their cheapest model, and will cost me about 1000 fossil watches.

I had/have one of the skeletonized Fossil automatics (I haven't seen it in over a year, it was lost in a house move - so I may still have it somewhere). It was my first mechanical watch. My take on it: I thought it looked pretty nice - I liked the style. I want to say it was well north of $100 and almost $200. Fossil has a nice warranty, I want to say it was 7 years. The bad: I had to use that warranty a lot. I think that one was sent in 3 times for repair. Also, it was very prone to fogging up inside when it was hot and humid after being serviced a few times (probably lost most of its water resistance). I have another Fossil that had to be sent in for warranty when a hand fell off of it. It still looks nice and I just put a new battery in it and was recently wearing it. I just got a Seiko 5 field watch today and I only paid $75 for it new. I'm pretty confident it's going to be a MUCH better watch, and for less than I've paid for some Fossil fashion watches. I've just gotten turned on to nicer watches, and I highly doubt I'll ever buy another Fossil... though they have served me fairly well in the past.

I think if you get them cheaper like at an outlet I think they are worth it. They got me into watches originally and the quantity although not great it is great for the price. Both of mine cost less then $50 dollars and I think the quality is better then the equivalent timex watches and much much better then the other fashion brands. I also think their styling is better then casio in the price range too so they kind of have a good hold on the sub 100$ price range that isn't a gshock.

Jory, I just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying how fair you are in your videos. My thoughts on Fossil: + You can do a lot worse than Fossil with regards to value for money. - However, at certain MSRPs, you can do better elsewhere. + Their retail reach is great. + Their leather straps can quite good off the bat and they are better sized for smaller wrists. + Similarly, they tend to design cases pretty well so that a diner plate actually sits decently on the wrist. - Dinner plate men's watches + They are great entry points especially for women as they offer a ton of variety with regards to sizing and styles (why are there 36-38mm women's models and not for men's models?) - They make some questionable design choices at times and these choices tend to be deal breakers for me. The difference between a Fossil and a similarly priced Seiko is how cohesive the design feels. There is almost always something that looks off on a Fossil watch to me and it's probably because of some cost cutting measure.

For me, Fossil was a stop along the way in my watch journey. I used to get anew Fossil about every 6 mos to a year. And you're right, for the price point (AND the 11yr warranty!??), they're not a bad value as other fashion watch brands (Shinola, MK, etc...etc... They actually DID come out with an automatic, in-house movement watch (that WASN'T a skeleton) a few years ago, the Fossil Swiss Made Automatic. By all accounts it was a GREAT watch. Problem: when you're used to buying a Fossil for $100 its hard to be asked to pay $900 for one, no matter WHAT it is. Even Fossil realized this, and I don't believe they are even for sale anymore. Case-in-point; I picked one up at a Pawn Shop for $38! Someone needed money. The Pawn Shop saw "FOSSIL" and gave them Fossil money for it. Pawn Shop sold it to ME for Fossil prices. I ended up trading it to ANOTHER Pawn Shop to get a vintage Omega! (Yay Brad!)

Hi Mr. Goodman, what do you think of the new microbrand Sternglas Zeitmesser and their Bauhaus Watch, 38mm 20mm lug width, 8mm thickness of case, Sapphire Crystal, Swiss Ronda Quartz or Miyota Automatic movements. At a reasonable price. What is your opinion? Not another MVMT, Daniel Wellington. I am thinking of buying from them.
