I have no idea where you see the rolex homage thing. The case shape is no way near to a submariner. The crown is different. It features a day date rather than a date complication. The hands and indices are different. IMHO its pretty stupid to say its a submariner homage because it has a 3o clock day date?

I have the green dialed one for around 2 years now. The green is actually more towards teal but it only so visible when exposed to bright light. When it isn't, it looks black from afar. I like the duality nature of it and still the best watch in my collection with more than 20 different straps for me to choose (20 is a lot I know).

Ofcourse. Watches are tools, even when used just for a desk diving they get scratched. Plus, service costs are also different and funny enough service for high end watches is often necessary. With few exception spending on a watch over 1000 $ isn't that smart. Unless one has really big bank account.

I love this piece with the green dial and a strap code bracelet. Definitely my new favorite diver. Oh, also I would argue that the date window does go with the rest of the dial quite nicely. It's got the metal frame to match the indices and the white background too. If you look at it and squint it looks just like the other hour markers, just a little bigger.

The orient DOES use lumabright. The difference in brightness comes from the thickness and wideness of its application. In terms of longevity: others tested this already and came to the conclusion that they are the same even though surprisingly kamasus hands do tend to shine a bit longer than other Seiko's or even their own indices.

This watch is a beast. It’s the ultimate tool watch. The lume also lasts all night, I never have an issue reading the time during the night. It also offers something the Submariner does not - a day complication. I bought a Strapcode Oyster-style bracelet which is perfect for it. 12+ seconds a day, but it’s not an issue as I use it for weekends and holidays. My Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT is my “business/work watch”.

I have a Ray II blue dial. It is a very similar model. After seeing this review I have checked the dial with a magnifying lens and...it is alright! No visible defects! When I was a teenager, my uncle gave an Orient to each nephew. It resisted everything for many years. Never heard about Orient since then. Thought the brand was over. Recently I discovered that Orient was still in business and the Ray II model reminded me of my old Orient...but in blue. I am looking at it right now! Great watch. I recommend it.

I have had the red Kamasu for several months now. I fell in love with the beautiful, rich dial color and as you noted, the specs are amazing, especially at the price. I totally agree about the clasp, but haven't found it interferes with my enjoyment or the large amount of wrist time this watch gets. Between this and my blue Ray II, I think Orient really has the low price end of the diver market well covered.

For those of us to whom $300 is a sum that isn't spent lightly, Orient is a powerhouse brand! Almost ALL of their models are a tremendous value, in my opinion. All things considered, (specs, design, brand legitimacy, overall quality...) one might say there are other "entry level" divers that are in the same league with the Kamasu, but I can't think of any that are clearly superior. And that red dial model? FIRE BABY!

Hey T3, we've had a Seiko company product or two in our house with a similar jiggly clasp. We've been replacing just the clasp, not the whole bracelet. We usually put one with a ratcheting extension so it's more comfortable in the heat and humidity. Just a thought for someone that might like the bracelet but not the clasp.

I own several Orients, including a red Kamasu. Following this review I checked my dial for similar flaws that you found and fortunately for me I couldn't see any, so now I'm ultra pleased. My intention when I purchased it was to wear it as a daily banger, the price was right. I also own a Hamilton Khaki Scuba, and of course had to draw comparison. The Hamilton is a sub $1k piece and I have to say the Orient compares favorably. There are clear differences in the elevated finishing of the Hamilton and the movement is nicer. That said, It's pretty much three times the price. I'm glad to own both, but, honestly, if I had purchased the Orient first I may not have purchased THAT Hamilton, the Orient is that nice!

I bought a Kamasu for myself for Christmas and I've been wearing it since the day I got it out of the mailbox, on 12/6/22. I didn't care for the bracelet that it came on because it isn't tapered. So, I bought one that is tapered. My wrist is 6.75" and this watch fits me quite well. The thing that is most interesting, to me, is the timekeeping accuracy. I check my watch every morning against WWV. When I first put this watch on it was losing 5 seconds per day. After a week or so of 24-hour/day wearing, it was losing 3 seconds per day. I started taking it off and laying it down, face up, overnight and it was gaining back 2 seconds while I slept. In the last few days, it has stopped losing time during the time that I'm wearing it so I've stopped laying it down overnight. Now, I'm back to wearing it 24 hours per day and it hasn't lost or gained any time over the last three days. I know that isn't a really long time for proper observation. But, it is what I have to offer. All in all, I'm quite surprised by the watch and I'm very happy with it. I paid $197 USD, new, from a seller on Amazon.

Thanks for confirming that this is a good diver watch. I've been procrastinating about the getting the Orient Kamasu languishing at the local antique shop, but now I'm confident I'll buy it. Hopefully it's still there.

just because something has an "in-house" movement, it doesn't mean anything. when you look at the specs of this caliber, it's worse than some ETA/SW movements available in the market.

Me too - in blue. Only diff I see with the Kamatsu is Mako II lacks the sapphire crystal. Seriously considering adding one from Long Island Watch. Mine runs a little slow and that needs adjustment. I wonder if T3 could check accuracy in reviews?

I think the San Martin water ghost 👻 deserve a spot too I know it’s an homage with nh35 but for 200$ you can’t find a better quality/spec Easily comparable with much higher watch (Of course you can buy pagani or Invicta for 80$ and have an nh35 but for all those specs SM is the king)

I have the blue face and it is a gorgeous watch. I did switch out the bracelet with one from Long Island Watch and would highly recommend it--screwed links, easy to adjust, rock-solid clasp, heavy-duty construction. Two cons to the Kamasu for me: 1) the lack of drilled lugs. Switching out straps a PITA. 2) As many reviewers have noted, its a bit difficult to wind and set the watch due to the awkwardly placed crown arms. Not a big deal, though: a bit of fiddling and you can set and wind fine. Oh, and keep an eye out for sales: no way should you be paying $280 for this watch. I got mine at a BIG discount at JomaShop.

Paid 195 for my blue dial about 8 months ago and gets just as much wrist time as my Street Fighter Ryu Seiko along with my Rolex BLNR and 50th anniversary Seadweller. You just can't go wrong with a Kamasu in any color, for any occasion.

I have 5 Orient divers: Ray II (blue), Kamasu (green/teal), Triton/Neptune (black), Triton/Neptune (blue), Orient Star AU0302L00B (blue). None have any dial imperfections. The Ray II is more of a Submariner homage than any other Orient and thus my least favorite. I highly recommend the Kamasu and daily wear it more than my Tritons and Orient Star. The smaller size and weight make it slightly more comfortable. The Tritons and OS are my preferred evening and overnight watches, due to their superior lume. They also do not lose any lumed indices to a date window.

Okay, point of information: it's the Kamasu in the USA; if you are shopping elsewhere, like on JS or Creation Watches, look for the Mako III. To this end, it would be helpful to have the reference in the info bar. Great video again, Jory.

I agree, Watch is excellent quality. The indices remind me of the SMP in the day light. But the crown is annoying. I actually leave it unscrewed when I’m not wearing it. I think part of the screw down problem is caused by the hand winding. I can feel it winding the movement when I’m trying to screw it down

There was just an epic discount on Amazon in Italy (166€ for every color variation of the Kamasu). I bought the green and the red dial versions because I could not make up my mind. Sadly i have to say that having them in person does not help me whatsoever in my decision making 😂 They are just so gorgeous. I finally chose the red one because I think it is more unique in this price range. But the green is sooooooo pretty. I miss it already!!!

I have been seeing the dial "numbers" and hands(so the spots where there is lume) looked more white on some pictures, like in this video or more yellowish in others(which I dont really like). And I cant find shop I can go look at the watch irl. Compared to lets say the seiko 5 sports, that white color seems more clean white-white. But other than that I really like the kamasu. Does anyone have any experience about this? would be appreciated :)

I bought my Kamasu for around $150 almost a year ago. I JUST bought a Heimdallr Monster for essentially the same price as my "beater" red dive because the Kamasu is just a more elegant office wearing watch that I want to keep nice. The red Kamasu is literally the best looking red dive watch for less than $500 (and I'd have to wear it if I was looking at the new Oris just to see if the Oris was worth it).

The only drawback on this watch is the bezel insert. It is painted aluminium and sits higher than the crystal, therefore it scratches really easily. I've had my red Kamasu on the wrist for three years now and it needs replacing. I found that Long Island Watch company has two aftermarket bezels, one coin edge and one truer to the original. I'm gonna pick up the latter and insert either a black ceramic or a rvs insert....tough choice, I'll probably order both and decide then and there which one gets the 'okay go'.

Still a contender in 2023. Regulated it to under +1 s/day (in 24/7 wear mode) at home with the help of software (!) timegrapher. So, Rolexes/Tudors with their -2/+2 can go smoke behind the garage. And the lume lasts all night.

Just got a blue kamasu and really love it. My only complaint is that the sapphire is very reflective so there's often glare on the face. I'd like to look directly at it to enjoy the beautiful face without needed to angle it to avoid glare. Also, the sapphire is a fingerprint magnet. I like my glass clean! I've never had constantly dirty watch glass before or even thought about it.

A red one has been my daily driver since mid-2020. My wrist is about the same size maybe 7.25" and it wears extremely well. I put it on a rubber strap and that is a good pairing for a working watch (I'm on a construction site). I'd be good with just this and my Seiko Cocktail Time for when I have to dress up.

A Homage is not a replica, A "replica" is a polite word for a counterfeit watch, BTW this watch can be found gray market on a soft silicone rubber strap for about $200 which makes it even a better value. I wish they would also offer this configuration with the 6-9-12 Arabic markers as used on the Mako II.
