Have you tried timer cleaning? I found it motivating to see how much time each area took to clean. Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a nice day!

Great reminder that sometimes we spend more time thinking that a task is going to take too long, rather than spending the time just doing the task! But I am a procrastinator so I get it! Also just want to say that your kitchen is so cute and looks pretty efficient in the layout too. I remember in an earlier video you mentioned being conflicted over saving for a new kitchen or taking some trips, etc. The kitchen may seem pretty important to you now, but 20 years from now you and your family will have more fun reminiscing about all the great adventures you had and no one will be feeling too sad about not having a new kitchen. 😉 Time goes by too fast, make memories with your family while you can.

@@shannontorrens1I just wanted to add to the above comment. Last year we were looking to upgrading some areas of our kitchen which was still going to cost quite a bit and then one of our sons suddenly needed unexpected emergency surgery which had a two month recovery plus the week following that my nephew had a serious car accident. It gave me pause to think about things and so instead of an upgraded kitchen we took our children off on a wonderful holiday to Australia ( we live in NZ ). We have memories that will last a lifetime and plans to go back so I think the kitchen will wait a little longer. I have realised that my kitchen is actually ok. This was a great video as well Shannon, so crazy how we think tasks are going to take a long time and they don’t.

This timer method is also great for someone, like myself, who has chronic health/pain issues. If I’m having a low pain day I might pick a 30 minute chore. On a higher pain/lower energy day I pick a 3-5 minute chore. It helps me to feel productive knowing I’ve accomplished something. Thank you for the tips. I always enjoy your videos. 🤗❤️🙏🏻

I apply this technique to a lot of things. It's really helpful! For instance, I dread coloring my hair. I was so surprised when I timed it & discovered it only takes me 12 minutes! I couldn't believe it!! Now, when it's coloring time, I think "It only takes 12 minutes! I can do it!!" I also get up & do something during every commercial of a show. Always have. House stays tidy :)

I did this with my young adult daughter who has ADHD and issues with time management. I had her first guess how long it would take her to put away her load of laundry. She estimated that it would take 7 minutes but it only took her half the time. It really opened her eyes to the concept that you shared in this video.

@@user-mx5qp1zk9n Task Initiation is an Executive Functioning skill that a lot of people struggle with. For people with ADHD, it's almost a guaranteed problem; the smallest task feels like tedious torture because their dopamine/reward system in their brain is all messed up. My partner has ADHD as well and (even though I prefer to clean and do other work on my own) he thrives on body doubling. If I want him to clean his mancave, I have to be downstairs with him doing laundry or working alongside him. Try it as an experiment!

Hi Shannon! Yes! Yesterday I cleaned my bathtub thoroughly and it took less than 5 minutes. Less than 10 for the whole bathroom (I am retired and it is just my husband and I)! I had just been rinsing it out lazily for awhile😂 You also inspired me to make ice cubes out of some white grape juice we have that is just too sweet and will go to waste. I will add to my iced water for a treat. Lastly my husband (big win!!!) have been sticking to your hint that if something takes a minute just go ahead and do it! Hi from SC (100-112 heat index here for the past week)😊💕🥵🥵🥵🏝️

I have timed things in the past and it amazes me how little time it takes to get things done. This is good to know if you're tired or can't physically do things for long periods of time. I know I can do one short thing, then rest. Also, if it's something I don't like to do I know it'll be over shortly and I won't have to think about it anymore.

It's a great way to find out how long it takes you to do tasks, and then you can reverse it--which means if there's something you do NOT like to do, you can learn that it usually takes you about 15 minutes, and if it takes longer one of the times, you can just stop at 15 minutes and leave it for next time. It's about the only way I can get myself to do some odious chores!

Time is actually quite different working outside the home due to commute times to and from work, which can be significant with traffic- from someone who has experience with both as well…
@lovingsunshine3515
@lovingsunshine3515 8 күн бұрын
Yes, I have done both as well. As a working mom during the school year, I get up extra early in the morning so I can put a load in the washing machine first and put it in the dryer and have time to clean the kitchen after breakfast. I don’t leave our house untidy before going to work so I come home to a tidy home. Then when I get home, I fold the laundry while I’m also cooking. I multitask to get things done and to avoid house chores from piling up so I don’t spend the weekend cleaning.
@shannontorrens1
@shannontorrens1 7 күн бұрын
That is a great way to get things done. I agree it's hard to compare the 2 working from home vs. outside of the home. But somehow all the same things have to get done it's just a case of when we will do them. I used to think working from home would magically give me so much time to do everything but somehow it still feels like a tough thing to balance.

Working outside home makes it very challenging. I live 90 mins from my office so commute about 3 hrs every day. Evenings are a rush making dinner, eating, taking kids to bath, playtime…on the other hand since we are not at home it’s way less messy versus the weekends or work from home because of sick child 🤷‍♀️ It’s a trade-off
@shannontorrens1
@shannontorrens1 5 күн бұрын
Yes! So true. It really is hard to balance it all. Before my husband started working from home with me, he also commuted 3 hours a day to work. He left before we all woke up, but now that he is home all the time he will sometimes joke that the drive was the only quiet time he got to himself LOL. But the commute is the one thing that most people don't add into their work time. Instead of a normal 8 hr day it's actually 11hrs.

I also hate cleaning. I want a clean house but never liked chores. I procrastinate with certain chores because they take too long. Years ago, I timed a few of the most dreaded and was pleasantly surprised, that they didn't as long as I had thought. Most take under 30 minutes. It's easier now to tell myself, it's only "30 minutes" just do it. It always feels good afterwards that it was completed.
