Another knock out guitar from South African luthier Theunis Fick! Theunis comes to guitar-making with an engineering background and formal training with the legendary luthiers at Casimi and Galloup, and the results are nothing less than stunning. He says of his Model 2 design:
The point of departure for the design of the Model 2 was to create a medium-sized, modern acoustic guitar with a 12-fret body join. The constraints introduced by the desired body size and the goal of placing the bridge as close to the centre of the lower bout as possible, dictated the selection of a 25” scale length. A deep cutaway was deemed appropriate to provide access to the full extent of the fingerboard.
The body, he says, is "proportioned according to the golden ratio" and delivers up the perfect mid-sized guitar experience. On this model, he chose Fenland Black Bog Oak and European Spruce, with Bog Oak trim. The tone is unlike any other: as evenly balanced across the registers as one could imagine, with a striking clarity and fullness that feels like the very definition of "pianistic". Playability is truly excellent, with the matte finish neck adding a seamless ease for left hand fretting from first position up to the far reaches opened up by the generous cutaway.
