I laughed the first time I saw it, there are so many "call backs" and "call forwards" that you need to see it 2-3 times, and really pay attention to the story, to understand "why". The age difference people complain about, is not there, as Maddie has taken care of her sick mother in her start from beeing 18 before she passed years later. So her life has been suspended for a longer period of time, and for that reason was not allowed to be a teenager, when she realy was. In some areas she acts like a 32 year old, ind others like a 20 The first time I saw it I thought Maddie was constantly lying but in fact the hole movie holds op, if you belive everything she is saying, and adds a new meaning to the story and caracter. The good thing is that the hole story is layered like lasagna, so you can just get one layer by watching is once, or if you want more depth and explanation, see it again. Maddie took me the longest to figure out, the loss of her Mother and Father and they way she was born had a massive inpact on her character and her actions. The first time I saw it, I though Percey was the one to be saved, but in fact she needs more help then him, but they help each other to get out of the trap, they have put themselves in and move on with there lives.
