In this weeks video, we take a guided tour around one of the northwests most Iconic landmarks Leigh Spinners A.K.A Spinners Mill.
At the time of filming the mill was undergoing extensive restoration and renovation and is maintained by a group of Volunteers. The Site attracts over 50,000 visitors per year from all over the world and has a wonderful story of hard work dedication and the power of the people.

Thanks for the vid. Brilliant! That man organising the restoration is amazing. He is for the people which these days is unusual. Politicians could learn a lot from him. A huge amount in fact.

This project at leigh spinners is amazing! What the dedicated team have achieved in such a short space of time is incredible. They have not only saved a magnificent building and engine, but have given the building a whole new purpose and lease of life, a real hub for the community, thanks to Peter and all the dedicated team for saving a part of our industrial history.

I told you the engine room will take your breath away, lol. Worked there many moons ago. Fantastic site mate. Great video. God Bless you Brother. Just a footnote if I may, I spent many nights on my own in spinners. Part of my job was to check every single sensor on every escape door all around the mill, on every floor. I had a terrifying encounter on what I later learned to be known as "Freds floor". I can assure you the rearmost of the two main buildings truly is haunted. I have also walked through the elevated trolley tunnel that connects the two mills at some height. The far water tank tower is the one that has nesting peregrine falcons every year.

Superb docuvid Clarky, took me back as I used to work at Brooklands Mill in 1986-87 when it was a printers over three floors, this meant a number of floors were unused and derelict and full of ancient machinery. Spent many a time exploring the basements the roof and all the other secret rooms! Your video took me back as it was similar to the spinners in some areas. The cobbled road down to the mil was amazing. Thanks 👍

@@TheUrbanCollectiveWeFilmIt no way!! Now that I can’t wait to see!! In the late 80’s the third floor was full of printing machinery, the ground floor was split into two sections a small one near the front door and a much larger rear section for the bigger machines and paper store it was fairly modernised. (For the 80’s). The printers “Percy R Paine” went bust in 1991. Now…. If I remember I think the top floor was also home to printing presses but was abandoned mid 80’s, the basement was awful and rat infested and had very old pre war machinery in there as did a few other floors. Went to school in Leigh, Windermere Rd secondary, now long gone. I come from Atherton and we had half a dozen big mills, think Courtalls was last mill producing, have memories that all machinery was sold off to the Phillipeans and a team from there lived in the Wheatshave for some months while they stripped and packed up all for export. Can’t place the location of this mill, certainly not in town center. Best of luck for the future. John

Stunned by the engine room and mechanical power transmision shaft in the mill, had also wondered what was inside the buildings that once dominated the area.
