A few months ago I had the pleasure of interviewing James Bond fan, expert, and all-around gentleman David Zaritsky for the Urban Gentry channel. Today David joins me again in the newly setup Philadelphia War Room to discuss why the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean XL (2900.50.91) featured in the 2006 movie Casino Royale is his go-to everyday favorite 007 watch.
To celebrate this occasion, I share my favorite James Bond watch, the legendary Rolex Submariner 5513 from the 1973 film Live and Let Die, which I borrowed from the extensive WatchBox inventory.
Join us for a fun, casual chat as we talk James Bond, watches, and their history and significance to the James Bond franchise. So grab a martini and let’s talk Bond watches! Make sure to share your favorite in the comments below.

Just to correct David, Bond never wore that XL 45.5mm Planet Ocean in Casino Royale on a metal bracelet. It was always on that rubber strap. He did however wear the Planet Ocean, a smaller one at 42mm in the sequel, Quantum of Solace on the bracelet. The only steel bracelet that Bond wore in Casino Royale was the Omega SMP 2220.80 that he wore beginning with the train scene with Vesper, which he ends up wearing for the rest of the movie. So for the record, Bond wore two different watches in Casino Royale.

I never wore a watch in my entire life and a few weeks back thought to buy one finally. Walked into a mall and selected an armani watch but chose to come back later to get it. Came to KZfaq and looked for a review and your channel comes in as the recommendation. Long story short, I went from 0 watches to three seikos in a few weeks 😂

Another great video! I subscribe to your channel as well as David’s and am never disappointed. Watching this definitely reminds me of my Omega quartz Seamaster 2221.80 which I bought secondhand thanks to Goldeneye. Ironically, I had to sell it last summer to pay bills when I joined the Canadian military as an intelligence agent. (Privates in the CAF don’t make much money and I have a family) I miss it every day, and even though I currently wear my Seiko SNZF on a Spectre NATO strap, it’s just not the same! This def brought me back to the days of “secret Bond moments” like David and his Planet Ocean. Keep up the Great work, and keep the collaboration videos coming!

Great collaboration guys, been following you both for a LONG time, David through the various Bond channels and TGV just because I like watches. I tried to buy the exact Planet Ocean Davis is wearing but was offered the Casino Royale limited edition with a 25% discount, I took it. The rubber strap looks great but in my experience the keepers always go hard and brittle and break, as eventually, the strap will too. Taken to wearing mine on an Omega Bond NATO. I look forward to seeing the Bond watch video.

I think the song 'Live and let die' by Paul McCartney, is the best Bond song ever. I loved the movie. I know most people would say I'm crazy, but Moonraker was actually my favourite Roger Moore Bond movie, not because it was the best. It was because me and my Mum went to see it, so more of a good memories thing. My favourite Bond watch will always be the Sub. However I have just discovered the fancy Gruen from Dr. No. I will have to get one. His Casino watch. Coolness! Great show as usual T. Hope you are well? Best Regards Stuart

I remember fondly the many Rolex v Omega (Omee-ga) wars on the watch forums over the years. Two different beasts but both great watches. I’ve got both an Omega Seamaster and a Rolex Submariner. So I could defend or attack either from different viewpoints. But, at the end of the day, you really can’t go wrong. Both are worthy of James Bond’s wrist - the do it all action man’s pieces. Skiing, under the waves jumping out of a plane, never missing a beat. The watch’s will tick on for exactly 48 hours on Bond’s dead wrist...

My go to travel watch is a Planet Ocean 45.5mm and I got it in Hong Kong as in Singapore it wasn’t available. Have had it around 9 years now. Recently got it serviced for 500usd and when it came back, every part that could wear was replaced, original parts returned, polished. Love that watch and if I travel the hour hand movement through datelines is hugely useful. I batter everything and this watch just takes it. Awesome. I had several Rolex’s in the past and sold them as my eyesight deteriorated. This Omega is mega legible and the lume rocks...

I bought my PO2500C 45.5 on bracelet back in 2005, before the release of Casino Royale. I didn't know he'd wear it in the movie. I discovered the piece through Michael Phelps adverts. It turned out to be my favorite Bond watch and my favorite Bond movie. The PO to me looks very muscular and utilitarian but it's not overdoing it, it does it with a touch of class still. I think it's a future classic. I tend to wear it on the original rubber strap in summer and original brown croc strap in winter for a dresser look. I haven't worn it on bracelet for years as it weighs more than 200g on bracelet. Super accurate after 14 years, super robust, never failed me. It's big on my 18cm!7in wrist but that's what I wanted.

Hi TGV. Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere or if you are already aware, but if you watch the extras/deleted scenes of a view to a kill, you will get a good view of the seiko diver on a rubber strap which Roger Moore wears during the Eiffel Tower scene. It often gets missed as it gets such small screen time. Regards, Steve

I bought the 42mm version of Davids Planet Ocean in 2008 and later added the steel bracelet. Although not the exact same watch as Craig wore it in CR I found it a better size for the tree hand PO. I still love the PO but it had to leave me one year later and went to my father's wrist. So I can sometimes enjoy it from afar. And I still have a Bond watch, the impeccable blue SMP 2220.80 which Bond wears during the train scene with Vesper. Yesterday it came back from service. An important part of mine has finally returned. Bond was btw. not the only one being asked if his Omega was a Rolex. Sometimes I am asked the same when I wear my orange Planet Ocean Chronograph.

Of my favorite new Bond watches , I have to admit I like the Spectre version the most perhaps. It just looks very nice and refined to me. And it looks really nice on the pairing with the gray and black Bond NATO strap. My favorite Bond moment? Probably when the Lotus turns into a submarine. I mean how cool is that?! Looking forward to the do you find watches video that you are working on. Should be very interesting. I'm curious if it's just on James Bond or also including any notable watches Sea-Doo how's the movies on villains and supporting characters. Because there can be a lot of interesting watches on those other characters as well. I think it might be an interesting topic to explore what watches you would have expected bond to wear or would like to have seen him wear as well. For me, I speak it appropriate if Brian had one and Omega Seamaster MOD version at some point. Having been a British commando and I guess also special forces at some point before being a 00 agent, I believe that's one watch that would have been issued to him at some point.

The last time you had a Bond discussion I said what I hope bears repeating. I've always felt that Roger Moore was the Bond that always seemed to be having so much fun. He was forever braking the fourth wall and impishly winking at us. I also agree with you that he was always impeccably dressed. I also agree that(in Live and Let Die in particular) the ease and self confidence he brought to those "fish out of water" situations was the quintessence of erudition. The watches were just icing on the cake.

Love your channel…I’m a major watch/timepiece junkie. I was given a really beat up stainless steel Pulsar P4 Executive at age 9. My uncle gave it to me back in 75-76. It had a red glass crystal and if you shook the case a mercury switch would complete the circuit and a digital display would illuminate. I’ve recently restored that piece. Moving on, I am an early Sean Connery fan except for Never Say Never Again….HORRIBLE! Moonraker was released that same year I believe. In my opinion The Man With The Golden Gun is by far the best Roger Moore Bond film….Christopher Lee did a nice job as well. I apologize for the Pulsar rant. Good night and thank you for your insight on various timepieces

I got into watches due to James Bond as well. First watch I got for myself back in college was a 007 Fossil quartz watch that had 007 across the face. That was my favorite watch for years. My wife (girlfriend at the time) then came back from vacation in Europe with an Omega 300M Seamaster. She asked the store owner in Switzerland about which was the bond watch and sold her on the electric blue Seamaster. I know it’s not the bond Seamaster however that electric blue wave dial is just eye catching. I often use it as my dress watch. Years later I bought the limited 007 Omega Planet Ocean with the 007 second hand. It’s my go to watch. The rubber strap has dried up and cracked so during the summer I wear it with an omega bond style nato and during the winter on the metal strap.

I’ve got the Omega Planet Ocean Chronograph in blue on a stainless steel bracelet and I love it. Great comparison but imho Omega is the Bond watch.

Yes, it might have been non-visual and obvious product-placement, but that scene between Bond and Vesper is an excellent one.

Woobie is commonly used to describe the military poncho liner. You ‘would-be’ cold without it. It’s used to describe many things like you mention but I believe that’s the most common use. I would recommend buying one to anyone who is into military history and/or gear. They are amazing and the best piece of gear I have ever been issued.

As I'm watching this video, and you're discussing Vesper's comments on the train in "Casino," I saw it a bit differently. She was so jaded that when she said "Beautiful," I don't think she was talking so much about his Omega, as she was being sarcastic at how right she was about him "wearing expensive watches..." Btw, I agree with you, Tristano, about "Diamonds" being the worst Bond, for the exact reasons you state. *Just awful... Also, don't forget-- in "Dr. No," (1st Bond film & my favorite), Bond didn't choose his Rolex. Terrence Williams (the 1st director who set the tone by infusing Connery/Bond with his own "sophistication" & "class") did-- And that was actually *Williams'* Rolex and NATO you see in "From Russia With Love," as well.

Talking of Bond watches, my dad recently gave me one of my grandfathers many watches- the gold tone version of the Seiko 7A28 chronograph, the first ever quartz analogue chronograph movement. This was feature on Roger Moore’s wrist in A View To A Kill! Fancy that. Apparently it was bought on a Tokyo business trip (my grandfather was a New Zealand wool broker). Sorry for rambling on, Enjoy the rest of the weekend, Best Regards, GT

Found your channel a few days ago with the tour of the Longines manufacturing facility (you can't call it a factory!). I started collecting watches without actually realising I was collecting watches.I just started to accrue them from around 2010 or so. I aim for the mid to low high end manufacturers, but started off with two Armani's that I picked up on ebay for just a few pounds. Now they weren't great, but they looked nice and at that time were uncommon enough for people to comment on. I soon discovered that I liked talking about them and so it grew. I'm now up to Rolex, JLC, Rado etc, but one of my favourites from those happy days where I was drowning in ignorance as regards Horology, that is still a favourite is Breil Milano 1970 Manta Chronograph. Honestly, if this watch was a man it would have a gold medallion, unbuttoned shirt and a porn star moustache. It is huge and very heavy so much so that I don't go the gym anymore, I just swap the arms on which I wear it. Seriously though, the watch has been fantastic over the years and has never let me down in 10 years. I've had to change the battery once and that was when it was serviced. It's still as accurate as it was when it was bought new, but that's to be expected as it has a quartz movement the number of which escapes me at present. I'd be very interested if you were able to get your hands on one to give it a good going over, so to speak. If you'd like to and you can't find one, I know a man who does, but he wears a gold medallion and his shirt is open to........

Are the non-Bond character watches worth covering? I tried to find what some of the villains were wearing but the information is limited.
