In Skyrim his speech level would be so high that numbers couldn't represent it, he'd be able to talk the last boss into changing their way of life, he speaks and rivers flow with salmon leaping, with each word an army of spearmen march behind him, by word all the babes flock to him. He can speak and the rain will clear, his speech is so potent that it made all the ladies that hear him pregnant.

What I'd like to see is someone create a far improved AOE AI, something like Starcraft 2's Alphastar. With the right AI, Viper wouldn't stand a chance.

I saw a showmatch between Viper and Hera on a french channel, on 6 games, Viper won 5 times in a row xD

@@rickychardzz Funny how that doesn't apply anymore to DE now. I remember the Viper been seen as the literally AoC God - now he's just one of the top players.

Now its the other way around in DE Hera is mostly at the top #1 and Viper around #3-#4

Viper calculated it perfectly. If anyone else tried this against British crossbows, they would get overrun at home. The balance on Viper's end and knowing exactly how to keep Hera from pushing him was insane. Looking back. Hera should have tried to kill the economy and take some losses at home.

unfortunately, masonry does pretty much nothing against obsidian arrows as masonry gives +3 armor for the "(all) buildings" class whereas obsidian arrows bonus damage is applied against "standard buildings". That, plus in most cases, the pierce damage of the archers is fully negated by the buildings armor anyways. The only noteworthy exception to this is town centers against FU arbalests because they max out at 8 pierce armor in imp so both masonry and architecture reduce the damage by 1. But even that will still not be enough.

I like to refer to this as an "instructive sacrifice".

not really. masonry/architecture gives a max of +2 pierce armor, doesn't counteract bonus damage that obsidian arrows gives at all.

Exactly what you said. I'm not good at AoE2 but lower level player always focuses on hard counter (unit x beats unit y) while at higher level, hard counter is less important. For example, you see how Viper has map control and denies Hera's resource. Hera wasn't able to gather enough resource to build enough knights or mangonels or skirmishers to counter Viper's crossbow, and Hera knows it. Remember that you need massed number. You see how when Hera built one or two mangonels viper killed them before Hera manages to make enough mangonels to endanger Viper. Also remember that you need resource to upgrade, unupgraded knight or skirmishers would just be killed by massed crossbow. That's why people only makes single type of unit and changing unit production after you already spent a lot of resource and time upgrading another thing is costly (for example, you already spent a lot of time and resource for archer upgrade, if you start making knight, you'll need to spend more resource upgrading them before they'd be powerful enough)

This was not really about the unit composition. Hera was winning almost every fight with the superior ranged unit in superior numbers, but he was allowing Viper to completely dictate where and when those fights took place. There was no counter against Viper's eco, allowing him to devote much more focus to his armies and continuously spam units to replace his losses. Sending just one Briton x-bow behind Viper's woodlines or near his farms or miners would have disrupted and distracted him with little investment. A few rams to disrupt his patrolling armies in Hera's base would have also been effective.
