The song now carries a double meaning. Originally, the song was written about a failed relationship that Corey had, he never said who it was but some say it’s his ex wife. When writing the song, Corey didn’t want it to be included on a Slipknot album, he didn’t think it was good enough. Paul Gray, their bassist loved the song and really pushed for the song to make it on the album. Paul unfortunately passed away not long after so the song is special in that it’s a sad love song and a song to remember Paul.

Joey was also closely involved in finishing and pushing for it to be on the album. There's a reason why they played it for the first time in over a decade on the tour just after Joey died.

Just to add to this, there's been a few cases of Corey starting to play this song then having to restart because he's been unable to hold back the tears enough to be able to sing. This was even before Joey passed

5:58 on the album version Corey belts out a long note right here. Clearly in this version he's too choked up to hit it, and ends up doing a shorter one, but you can hear in the background one guy in the crowd ABSOLUTELY NAIL IT

"Snuff" was created in 2008 and then use by Slipknot to pay tribute to Paul Gray (bass player) who died in 2010. This is why Corey is so emotional during this interpretation.

I love how the whole tone of the song changes with the line "But all of that was ripped apart when you refused to fight". Up till that point he's the bad guy of the relationship. She's too good for him, if you love him let him go, if he's alone he cannot hate, but then she does leave and all of a sudden she's the bad guy now. The whole focus changes to everything she should've done to save the relationship, and him. It's such a good representation of a toxic relationship and the anger that comes out on the refused to fight line hits hard every time.

Slipknot (and thus Corey) really hits a special point on me. From the very fist time I heard them, when I was in highschool, I got instantly hooked. And no matter if it's a super heavy or soft song, I just get goosebumps anytime I close my eyes an try to follow the lyrics. I guess most people has had a broken heart at least once. I'm no exception. this song... I remember hearing it for the first time, by accident, right after breaking up with my first girlfriend and feeling REALLY hurt. This song is really profound to me for that reason. Like... It brings me back to a dark past but it's also beautiful and I enjoy it a lot. So... It's sort of like a massochistic experience for me to listen to Snuff. A guilty pleasure, one might say, that has to be carefully dosed or else it can pretty much bring me down.

I was in a metal band about 9 million years ago and our singer said when he scrunched up his nose it was to bring the sound forward and it let him use tension without putting the tension in his throat where he didn't want it. I'm not a singer but that is the best I can tell you. Hopefully someone else has a better way to describe it. Great reaction as always. Metal has always been overlooked as just screaming and making angry sounds but there is so much more to metal.

Slipknot is definitely worth giving a listen to, they are technically very good and the energy and emotion can't be denied, but it clearly isn't for everyone. Corey is also in a slightly lesser known band called Stone Sour, which still has that edginess but is maybe a little bit easier to get into if you aren't used to such harsh metal. Fantastic reaction though, looking forward to seeing more :)

Such a powerful song, in my eyes the best song Slipknot have made thus far in their career. And this performance, just Corey with his guitar and feelings coming through makes it even heavier. There is one song I've not seen much around in the "reaction section", an old classic heavy metal ballad I love.. Manowar's "Master of the Wind". (I'd recommend "studio" audio, as most of the live versions out there aren't the best quality)

I believe you should check out their track "People = Shit", a live video. This band is insane and actually has a lot of variety on their albums (rapping, harsh vocals, growls, clean singing, mixed voice, etc). They formed in 1995 and had some members leave and join, but since 1999 it's been a pretty consistent lineup of 9 guys.

I am kind of like you, slipknot is far from my normal style. But this one is so deep and relatable that it works. It's also great to hear metal singers that can back it off and make something more melodic. You can still hear some harsher distortion, but it adds to the more clean sound, and for this song in particular adds to that emotion behind it.

Obviously, most of Slipknot's catalog is vastly different than this song, but a good introduction to them in my opinion is Dead Memories.
