One instance when it hadn’t rained in a long time and her grass looked like yours… they sent a letter saying she had 1 week to bring her grass to a satisfactory color of green or be fined $100 per week and double thereafter. 😡 With all her Italian bravado she cussed them out in Italian… I knew what she was saying, but they were clueless. I told them she said, ‘I’m battling cancer and could care less about the grass right now.’ Lol

Matter of fact, in the spring my guy knows to hold off on the first mow because the grass is full of purple-violets, grape hyacinths and henbit. Little sprigs of bright yellow sorrel.

Why is it that people still desire to live in an HOA? I get the idea of an HOA, however 9x out of 10, the most power hungry people in those communities often get voted into board seats and then people are shocked when the rules they set for the community are often worse than actual government regulation.

The place I rented… Had a two car garage, couldn’t leave cars parked outside of garage. visitor vehicle were only allowed four hours to park in neighbourhood. Hoa fees went up 200$ in one year, then the next year they were going up again. I moved out before that happened.

HOA can be good, they can be bad. I had a good experience with the one we built into over a decade ago, but we moved not long before it was released to the owners. Shoot I use to just mow the neighbors grass because the man rarely come out of the house due to age and his grass would grow near the knee . Now his children vame visiting saying the grass wasn't high and what was I trying to take advantage of their dad. I said I was being neighborly and was teaching my kids at the same time. And I was doing on need not regular maintenance. That was the last time I cut his lawn or my kids. The word free for him not for them ( greed) they control his money and live out of the city and scence he didn't go out often he didn't see the grass they didn't do. They wanted me to say it was short. They drilled me and express the concern I was trying to take his money. When they were. But we did it for many reasons but not at a cost. So I don't live in an HOA and never will for this exact reason... But here's what happened to me. I live in a nice neighborhood, one time we got a letter from the city because I had a small handful of weeds getting over 8" in a part of my lawn that was difficult to get to between the side of my house and fenced in backyard and a few in my flowerbeds that have been slightly neglected during a busy hot/rainy summer month (maybe literally 10-20total weeds).. Anyways sprayed the weeds and weedwacked everything nice and tidy a few days later, took literally two minutes and I can't imagine what they were gonna try to charge me lol. Then I wanted to move some of my aluminum extension ladders and store them between the side of my garage along a narrow spot and between my chain link fence(an area completely unusable for anything else but would have made a PERFECT spot to neatly stack 4 of them.. It wasn't an eyesore, if you looked from the street it would have been literally impossible to even see it, yet they told me I cannot store ladders outside unless I build an enclosure for them. What a pain, so now I'm storing them in my two car garage wasting that precious space. It's pretty infuriating having a municipality constantly telling you what you can and can't do on your property. Absolute lunacy. In the backyard, I also have 3 huge trees plus a huge tree by my front driveway. When we get a big storm, naturally sometimes I have some branches fall... So I neatly stacked them in the back yard along the back corner of my fence near some of my shrubs... Nope you guessed it, can't do that either. I unfortunately don't have a dedicated trashcan for yard debris so I basically had to chop them up and haul it over to a friend's house who has a nice firepit and instead of saving the branches I'm now pretty much forced to immediately squeeze in everything every week with my normal trash. I told some of my buddies I work with these tales and they all thought it was crazy lol. I guess my township has absolutely nothing better to do 😆

$40 is pretty cheap. The HOA used to live in would’ve charged $75. I hated the HOA and there were a lot of rules that really bothered me but I knew what they were. The HOA and the rules that are in place are not a secret when you buy your home. You signed the paperwork when you purchase your home and agree to the terms of not only the sale of the home but your membership in the HOA. You can’t cry about it after the fact. I got fined twice because my son left his bike leaned up against the side of our house. $150 each time. We live near a lake and my husband and I purchased a boat. We figured out after we purchased it that it can’t be in the driveway. We can’t have boat in our own driveway. We had to put the boat in the garage and the car had to stay in the driveway. Needless to say, we moved as soon as we could.
