In this week's episode we ask a number of questions:
Why do locomotives need oil? How exactly do you get it to the right place whilst the locomotive is moving? And how can garlic save your skin?

I am certainly familiar with these sights because when I was at the old Voss railway in Bergen Norway 2 weeks ago, and I saw they did the same process as you guys do. The locomotive at the Voss line has a mechanical lubricators for the record

I’d like to see the rolling stock that is unused eg. Wagons/coaches not fit for use, and the shunters in the sidings that are seen from the window, what they are and why they are there. I’d also like to see the class 20.

I wonder how drivers/firemen could read how much water is in the boiler through the gauge? For example when is it too high? Or when is it too low? And what about hills when you don’t get an accurate reading.

Hi, bit late here but how is boiler steam pressure used to force water into a boiler which is already at steam pressure?

Which bearings are greased rather than oiled?
@DepakoteMeister
@DepakoteMeister Жыл бұрын
Plain bearings (like a car crankshaft) are oiled, roller bearings (like a car wheel bearing) are greased. Over the years plain bearing axle boxes have been replaced with roller bearings types.

Why is there a massive cloud of steam when a steam train sets off?
@WillStratford
@WillStratford 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, those are cylinder drains which the driver opens to blast out any water that may be in there due to steam cooling down and condensing.
