What makes modern-day title reigns more impressive is the level of competition they face. And not only my opinion but many other fighters and experts they do think the competition was much lower when Anderson Silva and Jose Aldp were on their title runs.

Like for instance south Africa is a sport country. And DDP will be backed it will be massive for ufc because if the choose the right venue we will see 80 to 100 thousand. Imagine after winning the rugby world cup to holding a ufc ppv event most probably I'm Cape Town it will be massive. Ilia with Spain behind him its incredible to have Madrid the riches and most prestigious football club in world. Topuria is really good at entering on the half step/half beat..It's a tricky boxing technique to master, you have to be very fast and have great timing..Like all of the greats coming up, he is improving massively in between every fight, and will continue to improve over his next 5 fights, as long as he doesn't get distracted..

It is so much harder in the modern era to have a long title run because of the advancements in technique and style. If someone was able to MIX their martial arts back in the day (GSP) or clearly outclass pure wrestlers with their striking (Silva), then they would remain the champ. It is the exception to be a specialist now, as compared to the norm back in the day.

I have a question about the favouritism and inconsistency of the community. Stipe’s last win was in August 2020 against DC, his last fight was in March 2021. Yet nobody had the same energy for Stipe that they do for Ortega who has fought more recently than Stipe. Also Stipe has had his immediate rematch when he lost to DC then rematched him, yet everyone was ok with him fighting for the belt before tom became interim. So can Izzy fight Dricus without issue? No everyone has said he doesn’t deserve another title shot. Secondly, Moreno hasn’t fought 7/9 of the top 10, so he hasn’t cleared the division, he’s lost 3 times to the current champion, he’s had 6 title fights since 2020 including an interim and hasn’t defended successfully once. How can Moreno deserve a title shot without even getting 2 wins?

Also I think the timeline for the jones stipe fight originally was ok. Tom hadn't earned the title shot yet and pavlovich as the backup fighter felt fair. Obviously now that Tom is interim champ it feels wrong to have jones still fight stipe.

@@erykpoyton2799Stipe has already had his immediate rematch when he fought DC again, pavlovich earned the title shot and should have been the one jones was going to fight. Nobody has the same energy for stipe as they do Izzy, as soon as Izzy lost to Strickland everyone was against another immediate rematch because he already had his again pereira. Imagine Dricus was made the back up fighter for Izzy vs Strickland 2.

@@erykpoyton2799 and so being exciting goes over everything else? It doesn’t matter if that fights are close, if you lose you lose, you go back and rack up wins. Easy example Holloway, even in a fight half of the people thought max won, he still got 2 wins before a third. But the bias for Moreno has really shown, even by the judges, he didn’t get dominated but he obviously lost to pantoja and royval just now but was gifted a 49-46 scorecard both times😂

The confidence that lead to produce that documentary comes from the team evaluation of his trajectory. Ilia has literally steamrolled over most of the competition he has ever faced. His team was very confident that they were going to capture the belt. His next fight has to be in Spain, they just met the owner of Real Madrid and the arena (Santiago Bernabeu) to make the arrangements. It’s a great opportunity for the UFC. As everywhere, Spain is already on board with MMA and they are going to pack the place. We are talking a huge Arena in Madrid and it’s going to sell out 100%. But don’t misunderstand it… sounds crazy but ILIA is an even better WRESTLER than striker. He has spent years beating guys in the first round thanks to wrestling, kinda Khamzat kind of aggression.

Yeah i agree with statement- i think ilia will beat volk even worse. He is a student of the sport his got better each time we see him. He knows where to work on and i think we going to see even a dominated performance. I dont think we going to see volk come back the thing is Ilia showed his level against Volk. We might see a slower volk more wreckless volk. He was to weary about the power ilia possess and how will he overcome the mental battle in rematch ilia is one up. All he needs to focus on the refine what he already done but do it more smoother.

Best MMA channel. The MMA world looks to you when we need to know who really won. ⚠️I don't think it's right for us to pile the ""best ever"" expectation on any fighter. Especially a younger phenom before they've had their first title defense. The pressure to fulfill those expectation is not good for fighters. I know pressure makes diamonds but with social media and everything else today it's a lot different than it was back in the early days.

For you to say max is not in his prime is ridiculous, max is levels ahead of what he was is the first and second volk fights and the Aldo fights, we will only see when UFC 300 comes

@TheWeasleMMA I remember Jose Aldo's come up and looking back his physical prime was mostly during the wec days and the first few ufc fights. How explosive he was and dangerous reminds me of ilia. Maybe this entire time we all forgot how amazing aldo was, compare him to ilia right now and i think wec aldo would either give ilia the toughest fight of his life or ko him. I think with volk we got used to the GSP effect, he is the most well rounded mma Champ at the time. But as soon as someone comes up who excels at a specialty but also has enough tools in certain positions to defend themselves it was enough to be Volk. What do you think Prime aldo (leg kicks and remarkable fast twitch speed aldo) or Ilia right now? (both would be in their 20's as well in this hypothetical fight.

@@Sw1tchBlade9 i'm thinking that too, Prime aldo was special, solid defensive responsibility when throwing combos, lightning fast, power, accurate, aggressive, evasive, solid TD defense: i think he was light years ahead of the game b/c he still kept impressing me by competing at a super high level as he was getting older and going down in divisions which i think can be harder b/c of the technique and speed difference than going up. I know Aldo didn't have the same Competition as Volk or Hollaway i don't think it matters b/c he crushed just about everyone, or he ruined their careers after fighting him (mark, manny, ricardo) all of them were never the same after aldo. Hell he practically retired Mike Brown and we all know now how smart he is about fighting

@zachlowman2590 Ilia. Not taking anything from Aldo. Definitely a legend of the sport. But he doesn't and never had the pure boxing skills of Ilia Topuria. The prime Aldo leg kicks are the biggest question but Topuria has shown that he is more of a pressure fighter. Staying on the outside is how you get destroyed by kicks but being constantly pressured you can't really do that with anywhere near the efficiency and Topuria likes to dictate the fight. Doesn't matter who it is. And we all know how great he is in the pocket. He is probably top 5 in UFC history at this point when it comes to skill with his striking in the pocket. He wouldn't be able to take Aldo down though. I still maintain that Khabib would never have been able to take Aldo down. His takedown defense really is that great.

@@gamersinger5118 i do see your point but think that aldo's kickboxing style would be able to make ilia tentative to unleash bombs. He had decent boxing with power and some of the nastiest leg kicks ever. Plus you never saw him have terrible striking defense until his cardio ran out

Compared to Aldo, Volk got his record changed because he went up and fought top 1 or 2 most dominant fighters in that division, if not ever. If Volk didn’t fight Islam he would have a better record. As far as opponents go, Volk’s record wipes the floor with Aldo’s.

@TheWeasleMMA I think the ufc shelves fighters who hold leverage over them by giving them undesirable match-ups, delaying fights, passing narratives that the fighter doesn't want to fight, and with conor specifically i don't think he wants to sign a fight deal that doesn't allow him to compete in other sports but the ufc wont let that happen till they don't need him and he is way past his prime and keeping him doesn't give the same money or eyes it once drew
