My farm on Barbados has gradually evolved into a medicinal herb garden from which I harvest an extraordinary variety of aromatic and bitter herbs, I process and dry leaves, wood, bark, seeds, flowers and fruit into value added products for my pop-up-apothecary at a local farmer's market. In addition to all the air-dried stuff and curious blends thereof, I sell a very effective "Bush Tea" tonic which contains Hibiscus, Tulsi, Lemongrass and Mint for pleasant flavour, and additional powerful adaptogens and cleansers from our shamanic traditions like Noni and Damiana which make it easier to see the fairies who live in the garden... and others which tend to be bitter like Quassia and Papaya Leaf which drive all ugly-buglies out of your blood and bowels post haste. It's very meaningful work and you are always an inspiration. Thanks Weedy.

The hibiscus is sorrel, that what we call it in Jamaica. It makes really nice juice. Boil it in a pot of water with ginger. Or you can boil up a pot of water & then throw in the sorrel, ginger & cover for about 2 hours then strain it.

I can't wait for the next video! Alcohol vs. water vs. oil extraction? what's the best temperature? Is drying with a little heat ok? What about freeze drying? How do all of these things effect the medicinal content of the finished teas/tinctures/extracts? So many questions!
@suzishealthyhome8678
@suzishealthyhome8678 Ай бұрын
The majority of herbs will have some sort of clinical study done on it. It will say ethanolic extract (where you'd use vodka), aqueous extract (water) or it will say freeze dried or dried at a certain temp. Oil extraction with dried herbs either left in a jar or slow and super low heat. These are usually with the ones you can't ingest like arnica and comfrey.

I tried using the dried passion flower to make tea in hopes that it would aid in sleep, it did not. I also tried a tincture, it did not help either but no one told me was that it was an accumulator. So, back to square one, going to plant it again and give it another try. Luckily I can grow 4 out of 5 plants here in Florida and have some already. Enjoyed the video as usual and found it informative and interesting. You really do produce such polished videos!

Where I live (northeastern United States) mullein grows absolutely EVERYWHERE. I've always known it to be good for the lungs but never processed it myself. The stalk, once dried and trimmed, makes an excellent tool for starting fires. I'm not sure how to describe it but it's the method of rubbing or spinning it back and forth in your hands while simultaneously pressing down on it while it rests on a small plank of wood, typically cedar or pine works best. The friction from this motion is hot enough to light tinder which can then be used to start your fire

Greetings from the woods of rural North Carolina, USA! Although I’m Native American, most of the knowledge of using plants and herbs has been prohibited and squashed, thanks to John d Rockefeller. I grow many Medicinal Herbs here where I live in Victoria, B.C. Canada. It's so location specific regarding the herbs. For here, Lemon Balm spreads like crazy. It's all over the yard, and volunteers extensively. (Agreed, it's not as bad as Mint :-)) For me Passion Flower has been a bit finicky and has died after only a year or two for unknown reasons. I did a bit better with it when it was in Sandy soil and could access a large water reservoir for it's water. I've also had Mullein grow like a weed in Sandy soil, but disappear unexpectedly in a clay based soil garden. I WISH I could grow Hibiscus. I have tried and I understand it to be somewhat finicky-perhaps not in your area. :-) Beautiful Garden, Beautiful Plants! Thank you for sharing such a valuable resource!

Thank you to both of you for sharing all this wonderful information. I'm also creating my very own edible and medicinal plant sanctuary with all kinds of spontaneous plants. I pick them up wherever I see them in the wild and bring them here. I have not yet seen holy basil and I probably wouldn't recognize it if I did. I was also a little bit mixed up with the passion flower. I have a wild version of passion fruit that produces bluish purple flowers and then an orange egg-sized fruit with a red interior. I don't know if this is the same one that is shown on this video.
