The power of 'Ayreon' - (Arjen) is so great that Bruce Dickinson, Damien Wilson and Russell Allen all do equal justice to this song. Not many composers can wish better than that :) Pride

Did you also know that Floor and Irene were Ayreon's Angels long before Floor was famous, and sung on the album as backing vocals this song features on (Universal Migrator pt. 2). They also sang together as backing vocalists for Star One. Another Arjen Lucassen project.

@@TheWolfHunterZ you look at the 3 ladies, Irene is the one on the left. Lissette in the middle, and Marcela on the right. if you check out "The Eye of Ra", you see Floor and Irene singing Together. Floor was actually at Irene's wedding when Nightwish called her to come join them on tour in 2012.

What I absolutely love about Ayreon is that this is music written by a man who has such a passion for his work, and performed by people who are ego free. You had some of the greatest names in metal in this show, yet nobody in this concert gave a damn about who got top billing because they all just went out there and did what they did best; they performed. I wish I could get to the Netherlands to see them on one of their rare shows, but I think I will have to settle for the DVD. Please, if you want to listen to a fun song from this show, do Intergalactic Space Crusaders. The interplay between Damien Wilson and Maggy Luyten is hilarious. :)

That was just half of the song. I know because I have the album and the song is a little bit longer. BTW the original song was sung by Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden.

Yes, some of the songs in this show were shortened. At least this one and The Eye of Ra. I don't know (yet) the studio version of all the others, being quite new to the "Ayreon galaxy" :)

Bruce SLAYED on that song. He took one breath before the word "gazing" and held "universe" for twenty full seconds. If these two were impressed by this guy, Bruce's original performance would floor them. Also this singer didn't do the fry vocal Bruce added to "dying" justice.

This song is based on the Disney film "The Black Hole". The whole "Star One" album this came from (one of Arjen Lucassen's other projects) had songs based sci-fi movies and TV shows.

@Hard Rock Heaven 2 D'OH!!! Thanks. Yeah, I did hear but keep forgetting that. I first heard it played in the Star One concert, and at the time I just assumed that since it fit so perfectly, of course had to be from the film. Color me embarrassed! I have that album ordered so in the future I assume won't repeat that mistake! :)

@The Wolf Hunterz Note the guy on keys (Joost) is also the producer of Epica's albums, was part of other bands like After Forever and is going to produce Floor's solo album. And yes, they can all sing! 😆 Absolutely love Tommy Karevik (Kamelot) here.

I'll press like for your choice in Ayreon song. Not the typical "let's find a song with Floor in it" for you folks and I applaud you for it. I strongly suggest you try "Ayreon - Twisted Coil LIVE" from the latest Ayreon Live. It will *blow* you away. Damian Wilson on that song sings *even better* than Tomi Karevik does here, if you can believe that. Enjoy :)

Agreed. While Tommy is an incredible vocalist, the studio version can't be beaten. It's not just the vocals though; the live version is too cut down.

Guys, for a really good Ayreon song, try Everybody Dies. It's from Ayreon Universe, I think. Toehider (Michale something) as the cyborg has a range of 4 or 5 octaves, and he uses it!

For your own enjoyment, you should watch this song but the 2003 performance! There’s a youthful and powerful sound from everyone 😄 Also Floor and her sister Irene (also in this performance) sung the harmonies perfectly together

TOMMY KAREVIK is the Kamelot Singer he replaced Roy Kahn who left the band. I wished he would have been there too. Both incredible good front singers and vocalists..

You need to watch other stuff from these people. The one that is pure power from Ayreon is star one - intergalactic crusaders There are 2 lead guys and I think Floor is on the back vocals. The old video is defo on youtube. So good and powerful that you grind concrete with it.

Tommy Karevik did great here doing his own thing with the song. One should never try to just copy the great Bruce Dickinson, who sang on the album, because you would just fall short.

I prefer Dickinson’s version to this as the vocals sound a little thin. That said, it still rocks

Bruce's original was -great- fantastic. Thin though isn't how I would describe Tommy's voice. What I did notice was that the mixing on this recording was - too put it mildly - a bit off; his voice barely could be distinguished over the music.

The album version has Bruce Dickinson singing lead vocals. That version is far, far superior to this one. I'd recommend listening to it.

I think Tommy is a better singer all-around singer though,. Bruce is great. But Tommy has an absolutely Godly voice...

@@down-the-rabbit-hole Godly voice? Well... for me, that's a typical lyric tenor. He sings well, but a little strange tone. Not suitable for this one and heavy metal basically. And Bruce is a musical actor. The expression is always amazing. In addition, he has a unique and memorable tone, and rare voice - a dramatic tenor. Deep and rich voice with a metallic touch. So Bruce fits in with this dark heavy song.

@@NeXoN412 Bruce use to be good, but his age is really showing. I saw Maiden recently and he was out of tune a few times and his voice even cracked on the higher notes....He use to be good though...

@@down-the-rabbit-hole Well, of course, he's already old. Plus he had cancer. However, the middle register still sounds confident and powerful. He just needs to sing in the baritone range and forget about the notes above Ab4.

@@NeXoN412 yea that's true about the Bruce getting older and his cancer, good points. But back to Tommy on this song. This song doesn't really show off Tommy's skill near as well as other songs do.... He's absolutely mind-blowing in his band Seventh Wonder and Kamelot.....Hitting HIgh Range, Mid Range, Lower Range, he does it all.... That's why he's regarded as such an amazing singer by many of the vocal coaches here on you tube. One of the things that separates Tommy from other singers is his pronunciation and clarity of words. With some metal singers you can't understand a word they are singing, but with Tommy, his voice is very clear and I'm able to make out most words he sings....
