An analysis of 2022's The Batman (Matt Reeves, Robert Pattinson) versus The Dark Knight Trilogy (Christopher Nolan, Christian Bale).
What's so special about The Batman? In this video essay, I examine the differences between Christian Bale's Dark Knight, and Robert Pattinson's caped crusader.
In comparing and contrasting Matt Reeves's film against Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, one is able to see the different things they prioritize, and how that does or doesn't tap into the core truth of Batman's character.

Christian Bale was my Batman in the mid-2000s to the early 2010s. Robert Pattinson is the true successor of cinematography Batman in the 2020s, imo. And, yes, Batman has flaws like any superhero with the double life as a billionaire and vigilante. But, is it not those flaws which leads to the best qualities that defies "The Cape Crusader"? The Batman 2022 was a great film, and way above Morbius & DS: MoM.

Bale, Pattinson is drama actor and both characters are psychic🤪 (that haven't realized, torn autodestructive...) masks. And Nolan went through long era ~20y,when becoming and using his drive into something useful, not just as burden. That's mainly difference, If movie is part of years when did started to experience "other side" OK, but isn't, just kid who learned things too late (instead early as should. Trauma makes people "grow faster" in every way. Can ask any psychiatrist) To become what is had to cope with lots more than shows, and much, much earlier!!!

Ben Affleck is my favorite. He's the only one to get Batman AND Bruce Wayne right. And he looks the part, especially as Batman. I loved this movie for showing Batman in a different way, like, he's known as "The World's Greatest Detective", it was cool to see this side of the character in a movie. And it's cool to see Batman as a symbol of hope for Gotham, in Burtons movies, people are just casually like, yea, there's a dude dressed like a bat out there somewhere probably. In Schumacher's movies, people loved Batman. In Nolan's and Snyder's movies, people absolutely feared the guy. Well, in TDKR, not so much but still. In The Batman, he starts out as a symbol of fear for everyone, but by the end, he's still a symbol of fear for criminals, but a symbol of hope for the people of Gotham to know he'll be there for them. Thats cool to me cuz he is like that in the comics too.

What I’ve learnt from this film… People don’t understand people have different tastes. I love this film despite its flaws and prefer it over Nolan. But some people just can’t get through this film, whether it’s the depiction of batman/bruce, pace, plot or etc. Yet there are so many people who act like no one should like this film and others who think that people who don’t like this film hate something something. Even though I grew up with Nolan, despite the execution not being perfect, it does everything I’ve wanted from a batman story. Has the early feeling of year one, bits of a gothic detective and focusing on how a batman in real life would most likely be incredibly fragile despite his strength and skills (at least early on).

Never been a big Batman fan, but I did enjoy the first two Nolan movies, I’m familiar with the Burton/Schumacher films, and this one. I got to say, this movie had the best, and most human, depiction of the character so far. He genuinely cares about helping others and realized he could be doing more by the end of the movie. Also, he doesn’t use guns, any projectile weaponry or kills anyone, which he did almost every previous iteration on film before this movie. While The Dark Knight is a technically better made film with a stellar cast, this to me has the best depiction of the character. Also helps that Batman has the most screen time in the movie this time around.

I feel this Batman take is more real. This Batman is at his beginning stages. He has not planned out his personas, he has not yet developed his cautious and paranoid backup within backup nature. He is what a young vigilante would be. Christopher Nolan Batman, in the Batman begins looks more like an experienced Batman than a new vigilante. Ofcourse it's because of all his training but a little unbelievable. This Bruce Wayne is unprepared but has the same grit and determination that drives him to bitter ends. I am sure if Robin is introduced as a character it would be more interesting to have a Tim Drake like character than Dick Grayson at this point. A young adult stalking the stalker. And figuring out Batman's identity. Causing Bruce to realise he should be more paranoid and develop him to become more i. To the Batman we love.

I agree with this man’s point. But u have to take in the type of movie they were going for.TDK a more action rich Batman movie. The Batman was supposed to be slow methodical with not a lot of action so they can focus on the emotional state of Bruce. In the Batman it’s a growing up moment for Bruce he realized that he had to be more than just a creature in the dark he had to be a symbol for the ppl Of Gotham to inspire hope for them, he also grew up by realizing that because of him being Batman that will bring more attention to the city and more criminals will try to get at him and as a result of that the city will suffer and it shows that he is still learning about what being Batman is. TDK is a battle of ideologies Anarchy and chaos vs Order the focus of the movie wasn’t Bruce’s mind set and digging deep into his character but to show the audience the clashing of Identity’s and to teach valuable lessons about people and how anyone can be brought down to a level of evil or how people are smarter then u realize and many more so u cannot compare the movies in this way u have to compare them for what they are what each person is looking for in that movie

Lot of Nolan fanboys in this comment section attacking the film which is a shame. I loved the DK trilogy but The Batman just made me feel something else. I feel like the whole “Bruce retired as Batman after one year for eight years in-between the second and third movie” thing ruined the Nolanverse a lot for me. I still love it but it killed a lot of the immersion for me. Batman has already been operative for two years in this film and he’s still only just getting going, which I find really exciting. There’s so many things that I love about this movie; the dark, damp atmosphere of the crime dominated Gotham, Batman’s detective skills, his friendship with Gordon, the musical score, the Zodiac/Jigsaw like Riddler, Batman becoming hope for the good people that live in Gotham at the end of the film, the teaser of Riddler and Joker teaming up in the future. We’ve only been given a glimpse of Matt Reeves’ Joker so far but I’m already so excited to see him in the future. He looks like a genuinely creepy and sick bastard. I loved this movie and the foundations that it laid for the world to be expanded (with at least 3 spin-off shows already in development and a sequel already confirmed) and I’m very eager to see more of this Batman and the almost lawless Gotham that he is trying to save. I’m crossing my fingers that they decide to go with the Scarecrow for the next big villain. Matt Reeves managed to make The Riddler scary in this film so his Scarecrow would be absolutely terrifying.

I think nolan wanted to make a bond movie. Reeves is committed to the complicated but ultimately compassionate nature of bruce wayne, something he can develop from here on outwards, but something previous movies have so far very much neglected. I keep thinking that in bruce's mind batman is what enables this so far but i hope he'll use his official title as prince of the city more. The two personalities of the superhero must be combined and adjusted to the tone of the story, that is in the dark knight trilogy there was no problem in seeing a serious batman next to a bruce wayne who was swimming in the fountains of a hotel that he later decided to buy since the city we saw there was not so broken nor did the movie have a dark tone so it didn't look bad, which is why in this new version they decided that there would be no alter ego because when you watch the movie it is clear that bruce wayne does not exist, only batman there is no difference between his two facets making this make complete sense in the film because in that story he has only been batman for two years and his only reason for living is to seek revenge and instill fear in criminals by stopping aside his role as a businessman because it is understood that he is a young batman and it is easy for him to get carried away by anger and hatred, leaving other aspects that are also important in the background. Bale at the moment is just a better bruce wayne being that part where he nails it best because as batman he is the complete opposite the latter being the weakest part of that version.

In my personal opinion i prefer Pattinson's Batman because it focuses more on the psychology of Bruce Wayne. His addiction to it, Vengeance being the Alfa and Omega of his motivation. The true message of the movie, and confronting both Catwoman and Riddler who were out for vengeance, was his realization that Vengeance alone will never save this city. Alone it will fail. The Batman was as much a symbol of hope for the Gotham citizens as it was for Bruce Wayne. Let go of Vengeance, become The Batman, the hero Gotham needs.

Matt Reeve's The Batman is almost crossing the line but never actually touching it, it still remains at the realism side with a mood of a Dark Vigilante Superhero- these resulting in such a very unique and never seen before concept of Batman

I think Nolan's movies explored the psychology of the character more than enough. There was even a documentary about it in the first bluray release from the late 2000s titled(if I'm remembering correctly) "Batman Unmasked: The Psychology of The Dark Knight" which was a wonderful companion piece. Just cause they didn't explore the character being as weird as Pattison's doesn't make it any less truthful imo, in fact it's a closer depiction to the comics. Pattinson's Batman is like Frank Miller's Batman from early Year One except he's supposed to have done it for two years at this point. For me, stuff like him going into the same club the exact same way as both Bruce and Batman was "oh wow what a complex and unique take on the character" at the expense of logic. I don't see it as being truthful in the sense of being true to the essence of the character, cause it isn't close to the comics, or to what the character probably would be like, since it's kinda dumb and people should have figured out he's Batman by now if that's how he goes about his business.

Nice analysis. Another thing that I noticed between the movies is that in The Batman, Batman is treated as a character, a human, whereas in the Nolan Trilogy, Batman is just an identity. Probably we see less of Batman in the Nolan movies vs The Batman. Also, Batman in the Nolan Trilogy is portrayed or seen as an urban legend, a myth, hence we see him like perfect or infallible despite being in his first year. Probably also the reason why the fight scene editing is like that in Batman Begins vs the sequels and The Batman. There is also like an end goal for Batman in the Nolan movies, like he doesn’t want to do this forever and wants a way out (Harvey Dent).

I still don't think the 1989 film gets all the credit it deserves for doing a serious take on superheroes 16 years before Nolan did. People look at the goofiness of the Prince music videos on MTV and analyze the film itself through that lens, which I think is unfair. A good film is still a good film, no matter how tasteless its publicity campaign is. And while Jack Nicholson's Joker was goofy, I argue that portraying a mass murderer as comedic actually makes him DARKER, not lighter. A "funny" monster will be all the more offensive and repulsive, especially if the hero is dead serious.

Grant Morrison (famous batman author) on Batman's mental health: "I never really subscribed to the idea that Bruce was insane or unhealthy. As I've said before, Bruce Wayne's physical and psychological training regimes (including advanced meditation techniques) would tend to encourage a fairly balanced and healthy personality. Bruce Wayne would have gone mad if he HADN'T dressed as a bat and found a startling way to channel the grief, guilt and helplessness he felt after the death of his parents. Without Batman, Bruce would be truly screwed-up but with Batman he becomes mythic, more than human and genuinely useful to his community. I believe he began to slay his demons the moment he became a demon."

I like that we have so many options for Batman films, but personally The Batman is my new favourite. I like that it's not camp and silly. (I liked the camp, silly takes on the character when I was a kid though.) I agree with what you said about realism. It takes a certain type of mentality to become a vigilante, and I think Netflix's Daredevil and The Batman are the most honest and realistic in showing that mental toll. I hope in the sequel to The Batman we get Pattinson's version learning how to mask his true self and creating the persona of the playboy billionaire. It would be so bold of a filmmaker to actually show the mental strain that comes with faking interactions with "friends" day in day out, instead of the cheap quippy versions where Bruce is just fine with either persona. Bale's version was pretty great, but he isn't capable of convincing me he's a sleazy billionaire playboy philanthropist. He's just too serious of an actor. Then if we get a 3rd film, I would like to see Pattinson's Batman take in/adopt Dick Grayson. It would be fascinating to see this traumatized prodigy child being raised by Reeve's Batman, and actually show how unethical it is to put a child in danger just because they're talented and "mature for their age". I think they could pull off a really interesting version.

Almost every other superhero dresses up in a ridiculous costume and fights crime. So batman dressing up as a bat is normal in the world which he is a part of. It is a superhero trope. Spider-man also decided to dress up in a ridiculous costume after uncle Ben died. Bruce Wayne didn’t decide to walk-or swoop-around the streets of Gotham in a bat costume because he actually thought he was a bat. Wayne started dressing as Batman because he had a specific purpose in mind: to disguise his identity when he fought criminals. He also wanted his disguise to serve another function: to evoke fear in criminals. Additionally, Batman’s use of his attire is analogous to police officers wearing their uniform, or butlers wearing their uniform, when on duty. Uniforms (of which his costume is one) signal what the wearer’s role is. If you see someone in a police uniform, you expect certain kinds of behavior: If the officer pulls a gun and points it at someone running, it will likely mean something different to you then if the gun-holder wasn’t wearing that uniform. The uniform immediately conveys context to understand the wearer’s behavior.

I love this analysis! I'm glad people are recognizing what a great interpretation this is. As a longtime fan of the character, the last thing I'm interested in is a Batman we're all familiar with. Of course, there's no such thing as watching a movie wrong, but if you watch a Batman movie with an eye to how it checks all the boxes... you're watching movies wrong. I don't need to see another playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne persona. I grew up on elseworlds versions of the character, from Finger and Kane's original Harvey Apollo Two-Face to Miller's Dark Knight, Mignola's Gotham by Gaslight, etc. What makes the character so great is how flexible he is. What makes his best stories so good isn't how they conform to the formula, but how they stretch it.

"The Nolan films are undoubtedly more realistic" Uh, what? The Batman is objectively far more realistic than Nolan's trilogy. The Dark Knight trilogy is heightened reality. Batman is still very much a superhero and the things he does are just not realistic. Contrast that with The Batman which is just if Gotham City was a real place, and everything that Batman does is believable. He's not vanishing in and out of rooms, he's literally just walking up to or running out of rooms. When he flies, it's a last ditch attempt to get out of a situation where he will crash and burn. His suit is just military gear with a mask to cover his identity. The batmobile is an actual car. Everything in The Batman is grounded in reality. While TDK trilogy has a realistic and serious tone, a ton of that stuff is not grounded in reality, as I mentioned, it's heightened reality which is the main difference.

Let’s take the Arkham games for example even though joker isn’t the main villain in all the games and is even died in one of them he’s still just as an important role as batman. And another thing those goggles batman gets were he can see though people devices I never liked I always that it was pretty cheesy and goofy but that’s just my opinion. One more thing I’d like to say that isn’t really about the movie and more about it’s joker and how everyone praises it as the best joker and not paying any attention to the actual best joker Mark Hamill, now I’m not saying heath ledger’s performance was bad I think he did an amazing job I just wish people would pay more attention to mark because he is definitely the best joker just like how Kevin is the best Batman.

That being said, the movie had some ridiculous plotholes like Bats surviving a bomb to the face completely unharmed, or crashing into a bridge, then a bus, then the street at full gliding speed without having a single broken bone, or having enemies conveniently not aim at his thoroughly exposed lower face instead of his armor. The armor stops penetration, but the force of the impact can't be magically nullified. Heck, with a strong enough explosion, the shock wave can break bones and damage internal organs even from a considerable distance, no matter what you're wearing. Kinetic force is no joke. Physics is gonna physics. And half of Batman's face was covered with absolutely nothing, with the explosion occurring a few inches from it. He should, at the very least, have severe burns on his lips, chin and jaw. Same goes for falling long distances at high speed. You could be wearing a full suit of medieval armor, and a kevlar body vest under that, if you fall from several hundred feet and crash into the ground, your bones are going to break. End of story. Very interesting points. I did enjoy The Batman a lot (especially the music score), the commitment to Batman as a detective and the tribute to Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti Westerns with the slow scenes of Batman walking to his defeated opponent slowly with the boots. Those were just cool shots. As for content, I think it was a little too complicated upon first viewing. I enjoyed it more the second time to appreciate the small details more. I thought Pattinson did a good Batman. He's my 2nd favorite after Bale's Batman. I'm mixed on Pattinson's Bruce Wayne persona. I do appreciate showing the tormented Bruce Wayne struggling with the toll and consequences of fighting crime in Gotham as Batman. I just wish he tried to hide his identity more when he was in public. He doesn't need to go the billionaire playboy route but some distinction would have been nice since Batman is really who Bruce Wayne is and Bruce Wayne is actually his alter ego. I love that irony that was portrayed in Nolan's Batman Begins. Nonetheless, The Batman was a great movie and is showing promise for this new depiction as Batman. The route of Batman as detective is definitely very effective and different vs. the city saving Batman in Nolan's trilogy.

I think you touch on something really interesting here. GOTHAM is finally a real character of its own. The movie, as much as it is about The Batman, is also about Gotham trying to rediscover its soul and revitalize itself. The major narrative question is "Will Gotham remain in darkness, or find its way towards the light." Characters like the potential mayor and batman are trying to lead it to the light, but Riddler and the Penguin see no hope for the city and want it to fully be consumed by crime

@@TheWritersBlockOfficial If I'm honest, the darker Gotham gets, the more I want it to be saved. I couldn't care less about fictional New York that doesn't undergo any real physical changes in the story. One building turned to rubble in The Dark Knight doesn't do much for me because it was never an important building to the people of the city. A flood affects everything in a city. Livelihoods destroyed, homes flooded. Something I care about more than a bank robbery or a "rampant crime spree" that just means cops are struggling to beat up poor people.

The Batman is a neo noir detective type of movie. Personally I thought it was a bit boring and way too long, but had some epic scenes in it. TDK on the other hand is more of a fast paced thriller, that had more realism and some heist/gangster elements.

Depends on what you mean by a better Batman movie. Because in one sense The Dark Knight is both a better movie and a better Batman movie as it's a better movie featuring Batman. If you want to say that any and all movies featuring Batman have to draw from the comics for its depiction of Batman instead of just having the film do its own thing, then yeah, the Batman is the better Batman movie. But that was never the intention of any of Nolan's Batman films as his films were his own filmic vision of Batman, not that of the comic book character.
@wesstewart2677
@wesstewart2677 9 ай бұрын
@@echelon2k8it’s simple. The Batman is a better adaptation of the source material, henceforth it is a better “Batman” film. As much as I like Nolan, he took liberties with several characters and deviated from the source a lot. Reeves’s Batman just feels like a Batman comic on screen.
@echelon2k8
@echelon2k8 9 ай бұрын
@@wesstewart2677 No, that just makes it a better adaptation of the source material, not a better "Batman" film. Batman doesn't have to be, nor obviously isn't, in this day and age limited to the original source material. I mean, last time I checked, Batman wasn't emo among many other things. Things that are entirely new for the current generation. But that's okay. Reeves is entitled to his deviations just as Nolan is. Doesn't make it any more or any less of a Batman film in my eyes if not the eyes of certain gatekeepers.

I have to disagree in that Bruce and Batman are the same cuz yeah in paper they are but in reality bruce wayne is just an act that's why its mentioned 2 times in Batman: The dark knight rises. I get what you mean about it feels more real that Bruce Wayne has PTSD but in the comics this isn't the case, Nolans movies are actually quite accurate in the way Batmans works, he is with out a doubt with trauma but has to cope with it because he also needs to be Bruce Wayne, that's like the whole point Alfred exits in this movies, to remind him that he is not only Batman but a Wayne, yet he doesn't believe that for him he is no more than the batman yet like i said he cope with it because being bruce wayne has it uses. Honeslty Nolans Movies are way deeper than Reeves, buuuuut we need ot wait to see the next one because this is just the beggining, still I don't think this movies will be better or outshine at all Nolan's what he did was a master piece, not only with the character but with the essence of what being batman means. I just finished watching his triology again cuz I had this argument with a friend about which is Batman is best and even the last movie which I personally think is the worst of the three, man did it make me feel passionate about Batman, I liked The Batman ut it has flaws and they're not minor, without forggetting that it's not an original take at all, it is after all based in a comic, and this riddler is just the Zodiac but with a questionmark in it's symbol plus cmon it stole the Joker purpose of existing when the Riddler said "U made me" or sth like that which yeah it works but then all the villans are Batmans fault and it isn't that way but well that just a nit pick of mine. In summary THe Batman is good has potential but has to step up it's game to be at the level of the Nolan triolgy

Pick any pair of rising stars to be the young cops looking for him, and when failing have to search out the old and retired Somerset to help figure him out. When you watch that movie like the third time is when I realized that Mills is a completely horrible cop. He's stupid, unprepared, emotionally overreactive, and too lazy to read. A cliff's notes cop.

Yes, Nolan's Batman is portrayed as a normal character who has a borderline personality disorder expressed as a disguised alter ego. Nolan's Batman is a persona voluntarily adopted to achieve virtuous ends primarily justice against the portrayal of psychotic evil. Nolan's Batman is psychologically above the depravity of his criminal adversary and is displayed as the heroic. In The Batman the character is NOT a persona but the dominant identity. Patton's Batman is not given the subconscious legitimacy of wealthy philanthropist against a sociopathic villain. Instead Patton is portrayed as a mentally and morally compromised and conflicted persona as the primary identify thinly obscured behind a thin patina of elevated social and economic status. Patton's Batman is stripped of the distractions of technology and wealth and is represented as the dominant identity crippled by past trauma, haunted by the evolving revelation of hypocrisy of superficial virtue as a mask or camouflage for greed and corruption. The Batman does not end with the commonly expected triumph of good over evil but with the unsettling question of unresolved psychological trauma immersed in the dark ambiguity of corrupt society and social construct.

Thats really eloquent way of putting it -- persona and dominant personality. I think the choices by each director to focus on the dominance of batman or Bruce Wayne also reflects the time in which they were made. I feel that 2022 is a lot more skeptical of heroism, whereas during the nolan films, there was a desire for symbols to aspire to

Nolan's Batman isn't "morally superior". He thinks he is. But he should accept that what he does is also personal. And that's fine. Even though what he does helps people and is the only way to help Gotham, he also does it because he wants to be more than just a man. Overcome his trauma. That's a thing people completely miss about those films. He shouldn't reject fear. He has to embrace it. "You do not fear death. That's why you fail. How can you move faster than possible, fight longer than possible, without the primal force of human spirit, the fear of death?".

I'm sorry, but Bale's Batman does not have BPD. I've spent years in treatment for it myself, and learning to manage it for much longer by immersing myself in the study of the condition. Pattinson's take is more consistent with the emotion dysregulation, rage, abandonment issues, and unstable self image of BPD, though I'd be reluctant to diagnose him. If you want an example of a male with BPD in film, think Anakin Skywalker.

And it's great that it is mentioned in this video as well... Hollywood needs to forget about realism. If I wanted a taste of the real world I wouldn't watch movies, I'd go outside. If we want movies to remain an art form we need to really pay more attention to our imagination. Especially when it comes to superhero stories, they're not about what superheroes would be like in the real world. They're so much more about what the real world would be like with superheroes.... and for the beautiful storytelling that results once somebody realizes this (and I think Reeves did realize it), you don't need realism... you need imagination. Shit, when it comes to comic book adaptation, you don't even need imagination. DC has a century old history of writers and artists with incredible imagination creating *moving* pictures before they were turned into moving pictures. For 30 years everyone did anything BUT pay the respect these artists deserved... in my opinion Batman should never be grounded... he should be able to spread his wings and fly...

I agree with the idea that Batman and Bruce Wayne are meant to be seen somewhat as foils of each other. Bruce Wayne in public is seen as Gotham’s playboy. The rich billionaire that people love to love but also love to hate. His sociability as Bruce Wayne allows him to work for justice during the day, while simultaneously being able to fight crime and injustices under the cloak of night. While the brooding and sullen personality of Batman, is indeed Bruce Wayne’s personality, it is meant to be hidden under the guise of the “carefree- everyman’s man”popular personality that he portrays. Women think they know him and actually love him, while men also think they know “ Good ol’ Bruce” but somehow among the sea of colleagues and conglomerates, you notice that those who usually try to get too close to him end up scratching their head momentarily, trying to figure out how he alluded them. I say all this to prove that without Bruce playing his hand at “ well known and confident ” socialite, he wouldn’t be able to hide in plain sight. If you notice in the Batman Animated series, even though he always had a brooding sinister type of demeanor, he still has some hope in humanity and still wants to save his villians, however, it seems to be the years start to chip away at his faith in humanity and he ends up more and more reclusive as he gets older. Pattinson’s Batman, going into this reclusiveness prematurely in my opinion defeats the reason as to why and how personality foil,Bruce Wayne during the day, perfectly helps to disguise Broody and loner- like Batman during the night.

Wow, I love your take. But, to play a devil's advocate, this movie might consciously be attempting to tell a story of a dark!Batman, Batman-as-a-direct-result-of-PTSD, a kind of character who was shattered by the trauma of violence a long time ago and descended into vigilantism as a coping mechanism. This Bruce/Batman probably was never a socialite to begin with.

@The Writer's Block Yeah it's a long comment i know... So Nolan is committed to HOW someone could become batman and Reeves is committed to WHY someone would become batman ... Have you seen batman begins ? The first 20 minutes are litteraly about why batman chose to became batman ... Remember Racheal slapped the fck out of Bruce to show that theres a difference between revenge and justice . Killing someone would never be justice earlier in the scene racheal was narrating how torned up and depressed gotham is ... How people like Falcone are using the needs of poor people and profiting by them. How Bruce's father had done so much for the city but after their death ... Everything torned up , gotham became the house of criminals and mafias, good people like his father are doing nothing for the city because of the fear of these bad people . And in what sense the batman has showed the " Why?" Oh let me guess because gotham is full of criminals punching innocents and throwing bricks and robbering shops?... Well then matt reeves showed the basics of a torned up city but Christopher nolan showed the consequences of a torned up city not just the basics... And HOW AND WHY BRUCE BECAME BATMAN. "In or out of the suit he is the batman" No thats the point .... Bruce has to be in a sense more human like ... Not like batman who has to be a symbol and a animalistic approach of the person in the suit. They somehow need to have thin line of difference ... There's a reason they say batman has 3 personalitys and I get it Pattinsons Bruce still have not found the importance of the play boy Bruce persona and it's fine but the Bruce has to be a bit different than batman a more human like... And remember in the batman mask of phantasm batman was in his earlier years and he was extremely obsessed with being batman ... But still there was thin difference between batman and Bruce . My point is Pattinsons batman is good but the depection of his Bruce wayne is so wrong . And you say the batman feels more real than tdk triology oh come on don't make me start on that. And batman is a 'weirdo' in sesne that the things he does like wearing a costume flying around the city late at night ... Not in a sense , he acts weird. And also a big problem with the personality... Even zack snyder showed a torned up batman but he is never an emo like ... Batman is more like a soldier type person ... Strong and self controlled but also hollow and torned up from inside. But not an emo. Yeah you meant to say he is lost in the greif ... But wasnt bales kevins snyders batman were lost in the loss of his loved ones also ? But they were never an emo like. And even though its his first two years but it doesnt justify that he cannot compress his feelings because in his training of 7 years he mustve learned to face and control his emotions rather let them torn him up from the inside totally. But he is a human too he feels all this but doesn't let these feelings effect his mission or the relations with his closed ones like alfread. Batman is a stoic like person, The real reason why people like this batman movie is mostly because of its darker vibe and a noir style movie approach with some dope music... And it is in a way ... Romanticizes Batman's loss and grief rather making it real and we like sad charecters ... The same reason people liked keatons batman was because of the gothic style and tone of the movie and keatons performance but they don't give importance to the most important thing is the charecter himself. It's not just the style or it's not just the tone or the music or the action scenes or how shady batman is ... It's also about the comflicts of the charecter the ark of the story the impact of the other charecters. But l really have to highlight one scene from the ending where he understands he has to be a hope not just a force of fear yeah thats good. Many people showed how torned up or strong or gothic batman could be but very few showed more than just of it. That's why Kevin Conroy and Christian Bale are the epitome of batman to me.

I fully understood that in this later Batman incarnation Reeves wanted a 24/7 Batman, with or without the cowl. But in Nolan's Batman Wayne is 24/7 Batman and his real cowl is the spoiled, frivolous, womaniser socialite. He appears to be a normal guy but he isn't. In the costume party Maggie Gyllenhaal's character asks Wayne where is his costume. And he answers smiling "I'm wearing it right now". So personally i found Reeves' and Pattinson's take something new and edgy, but rather one note. I really like the movie though. And kudos for your video.

I actually find him being awkward as a slight negative against the film. This could be fixed in future movies however, depending on how Patterson portrays him in sequels (if WB isn't dumping everything) 1. It leaves very little question on who the Batman is. His lack of "mask" as Bruce and his actions in the movie should have everyone figuring out who he is. He doesn't really shift between the two IMO enough or there isn't enough difference. 2. I think the social awkward phase he is in really doesn't paradigm well with Batman. I think having natural charisma when acting as Bruce brought more to the table than the brooding. The Dark Knight Bruce certainly brooded and needed alone time, but it was more interesting to see him wrestle with what he wanted (Rachel) and what Gotham needed.
