When describing this movie I'd say the plot is there but the story is missing. We have the most important story beats but we lack everything else in-between. Not only does this absolutely kill the pacing, making everything run so much faster, but it also costs us Snow's interactions with others, which is where his calculated manner shines most. What little few scenes remain go by so fast at the start that they completely fail to capture the character of Coriolanus. Take his relationship with Sejanus for example. Yes, there's a line in the movie about how he's district and Coryo doesn't like him but then for pretty much the entire rest of the movie, all we see is him being buddy-buddy with Sejanus. There's a disconnect in his interactions with him where he thinks one thing and does another, but you don't even really feel it while watching the movie unless you take that one short scene at the very start and engrave it into your mind for the rest of the movie. The actor tries with what he's given, but without being in the protagonist's perspective, it's pretty much impossible to discern what his actual relationship with Sejanus is (or with anyone else for that matter.)

I’ve always felt that the first film really captured the horror of the games themselves as they are happening. The tension and anxiety that is built up as they are all waiting for the game to start feels so real.

At 5:17, I think those are the Nicholas Brothers. I confess I had to look up their first names, which were Fayard and Harold. I first became aware of them through clips of their brilliant dance sequence in _Stormy Weather._

Let’s not forget that the musical they used as source material was already kind of a misreading of the original, it’s not that good of a musical to begin with, and with a botched adaptation on top of that ends up in a big ol mess

i haven't actually watched the Mean Girls Movie Musical completely (and i refuse to) but i've seen ALOT of clips and ppl talking abt it and honestly it feels like this movie musical was made for ppl who don't like musicals. which is ridiculous, because if you're saying "we're making this broadway musical into a movie" (no matter what musical it is) the fans that are gonna be interested and are gonna go see it will be musical theatre fans. and if anyone does go to see it just cause they hate musicals and wanna shit on it, it would be very few ppl. this is one of the main reasons why i'm so disappointed with this adaptation. i absolutely adore the Mean Girls Broadway Musical. it isn't as great as the original movie but it's one of my favourites, so the fact they decided to make the movie musical be for people who probably haven't even seen/listened to the broadway version just feels like a giant "fuck you" from Tina Fey. like i love the woman but she clearly doesn't appreciate the broadway musical for what it is

You are giving Taika Waititi way too much credit. There is nothing wrong with his comedy and he is a talented director, but how he handled Thor in Love and Thunder was embarrassing. Love and Thunder is not really good at all, it is a bad movie and Thor’s character development is not strong at all. It is Thor again, finding himself, when I was pretty sure he had already found himself with the Guardians of the Galaxy. We can still include Jane and other characters, but don’t just unceremoniously cut him off from the people whom he was with just with at the end of Endgame. The screaming goat gag never got hilarious at all. It was always unfunny from the start and just annoyed the ever loving sh*t out of me.

I am so sick of people saying “well the previous movies you loved had flaws, so why are you judging these later movies for having them? blah, blah, blah”. Just because the best movies of the previous phases have flaws, for the most part they were not so bad that they ruined the stories of those films. Most of them were merely nitpicks. Phase 4 on the other hand is just filled to the brim with ample amounts of flaws including some plot holes, overuse of comedy, lame villains, and CGI that everyone can make fun of. I am not saying earlier movies didn’t have these problems, like Ronan being a generic villain in Guardians 1, some parts of the comedy in Civil War, which weren’t funny and the laughable CGI in Black Panther’s final fight, but they didn’t overshadow the many good things those films had. In these recent films those problems are far more prevalent than ever including Black Widow’s underwhelming script made with one of the worst villains in the franchise, the various moments of bad CGI like Yelena in front of a green screen, the floating CGI head in Love and Thunder and MODOK from Quantumania as well as the many unfunny jokes in Love and Thunder and Quantumania. The only films that were good were No Way Home and Guardians 3, which were still funny, had mostly good CGI and had great dramatic scenes to balance that comedy out. Those two movies had their problems for sure and are not masterpieces, but they had plenty of that fun mixed with drama that most of the phase was missing.

Okay, am I the only one who thought that Wilder's Wonka was disturbing than anything? Yes, it seemed like anything could happen in that factory ... including murder. To me it seemed that Wonka played on the kid's character flaws and set them up to fail entrapment-style like some sketchy cop. I actually liked the origin story movie.

The fact that I did my last production show with the (high school) cast of Oliver as one of the orphans just a couple of days before I watched this and saw this movie just made me appreciate you and the video so much. It really speaks to me that people know that story, and have seen that movie, or the musical, for that matter! Love the movie, it’s really underrated, and I’m so glad you included it in this video. I was hoping to see at least one comment referencing Snowpiercer or the fan theory, but all I got was one Dune reference. Just imagine, though: a crossover between Willy Wonka, Dune, Snowpiercer and Infinity Train. _A young Wonka got mysteriously sent into a weird world, finds out it's within a massive and very long train that's continuously traveling in the middle of a desert. He somehow misses the point of the train and why he's in there, journeys through many cars and meeting fellow passengers along, and eventually reaches the engine which is unoccupied. The whole journey made him into a madman. He declares himself the Chosen One, The Messiah - "Muad'dib" as the more veteran passengers prophesized, and he now rules the entire train; he has the most numbers on him out of all the passengers of the train._

My view on Thor in Endgame is that its a good idea, very poorly executed. There’s nothing wrong with the idea of Thor spiralling with depression the way he does, but the movie consistently treats Thor and his state as a joke intil he meets with his mother again. That left a really bad taste in my mouth and is why i find it difficukt to return to Endgame.

You really nailed this analysis. When watching this movie myself, I found it a fine enough movie to be enjoyable, but whenever they tried to make it...wonka-esk, it ended up just taking me out of the emersion somehow, and i couldnt really figure out why it felt that way. It felt like they were trying to shoehorn the wonka aspect of wonka in so much that it felt so out of place and looped right back around to being why it DIDNT feel like a movie made to be a wonka movie. It felt like a movie wearing wonkas clothing rather than a movie about wonka. Every wonka action felt like it either hit as funny, quirky or so jarringly "look how funny and quirky willy wonka is!" that it makes the movie feel like its trying too hard. That and this disjointedness of the story that i would look past in most musicals but feels confusing why they included them in a wonka movie when it doesnt really enhance the movie, it just sort of...happens. I feel like if it was trying to be a purely original story, there would be more focus on making the story have a proper theme and have their story decisions enhance the plot. It was a fine movie, enjoyable enough to watch, but it would have been better if it wasnt a wonka movie. Though....I doubt they'd make nearly as much money if that was the case, so it was probably never meant to be.

Honestly I'd just recommend the broadway musical version if someone wanted a musical charlie and the chocolate factory story other then the original as the songs form that one are pretty enjoyable and the show overall is decently fun while still trying to keep characters in line with how they would act. also i am just so glad that charlies mum gets a way better song then Cheer up Charlie in the stage show.

If "Wonka" had advertised itself as fanfic or inspired by the character, I actually would've enjoyed it. But as a prequel to Gene Wilder's Wonka? It fails in every single way. Every attempted nod to the IP was awful. The original stuff? Not bad. It was odd.

My interpretation of Wonka is that he is a good, eccentric man who was driven into isolation by others’ greed (especially the corporate espionage of people stealing his ideas) - the darkness in Gene Wilder’s Wonka is because of decades of isolation and paranoia around other people, and in a way finding Charlie is him opening back up to the world - while testing people’s intentions to ensure his factory is safe. His eccentricities are genuine, but it’s also a mask he uses to protect himself and his factory.

The ending was very 'teenage', everything had to be spelled out in an obvious way, as to explain something to a child and make sure they 100 % understand. That said, it was an enjoyable movie, it maybe dropped it from a 9 to a 8 or a 7.5, i mean what ever its entertainment, but yeah it was a bit offensive knowing the director didn't think we would understand and have to spell it all out. Still enjoyed, liked the darkness the grossness, the overall vibe of the film.
