Divide et Impera - DEI - is arguably Total War: Rome II's largest, greatest, and most comprehensive mod ever. It changes up a host of mechanics and adds several of its own, changing up the campaign AND the battles. In this video, I present my opinions on the mod in 2021/2022, and even talk about and review the big changes coming in the next update for the mod, which is scheduled for a full release in early 2022. You can still check out the beta for the update, though, so make sure to do so if you're interested: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...

the big question about this mod is how does it affect the ai , cause if you have all of these limiting factors and the ai can spam army after army on you then its gonna be an awful experience ,i rly hate the artificial dificulty in total war games

This mod literally saved the game for many of Rome 2's players. If only CA realizes that there's nothing wrong with making things "realistic" and complex -- not streamline it to make it accessible for other casual or non-historical players.

@berno8535 2 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with the reverse too, making it more accessible for others has its own perks. But CA should consider a system that allows players to choose a 'Historical' or 'Casual' setting for players to choose. Sometimes I just want to play a casual campaign and other times I want something more complex. And, I'm sure many feel that way. Also, without making it accessible to casuals and new players, the genre will die since it won't attract as many players. So, a dual system that makes it easier for new players, but allows veteran players to choose something more complex seems like the best way to go.

DEI is Amazing It makes me care about my generals and the units in an Army. When I lost 2 out of the 3 units of triarii that I had for just over 100 turns in an army that had fought ever major battle, I was devastated. The battle was not going well out numbered 2 or 3 to 1 I knew I had to send them in to hold the centre after the first line started to buckle. I really didn't want to as I had grown so attached to them, but I did. We where "Going to the triarii" as the saying goes as I watch the old guard and vets now hold the line. They held and held slowly dwindling away, as I raced to try and break a flank so that I could save them. I eventually did but it was too late for most of them. I saved what I could and won the battle. I have never had so much attachment to any units like this before. Because you don't have the population to field hordes of them ever man counts for something on that battlefield. That Battle will forever go down in my history books as the day my brave Triarri saved the day for the glory of the Rome. #neverforget

It took me a while to get into it because it has a challenging start for Rome and other factions. I had to restart my campaign several times because the Greeks in Italy kept running circles around me. I usually start passively in tw then build a few high quality big armies and conquer everything, not here. I scrambled what I could and took the fight to them, even with terrible odds I eventually won with superior tactics I didn't know I was capable of, also deciding where to attack so I wouldn't leave my cities exposed for long, and sailing across the sea to completely destroy that faction that has been giving me hell. It puts the strategy back in grand strategies. After about 30 turns I realized I haven't had this much fun in a tw game since Medieval 2. Pure unadulterated fun.

That make me think about one of my Sparta campaigns, I had finally secured Greece,Thrace, and gotten the pike reforms I had been dying to get. I had spent a lot of time expanding into Asia Minor afterwards even though I really wanted Illyria but didn't want to border Rome because I wanted to get more powerful to make it as easy as possible to beat them by destroying all their armys with a fleet, BIG MISTAKE I didn't pay attention to Illyria and rome took it and relations were souring, eventually things got so tense I decided to rip the bandaid off and go to war... it was a back and forth slug because Rome had conquered all of Carthage and had SO many armys and their leigonarys had such good moral that they wouldn't break until 75% of em were dead per unit, I did win the war... BUT AT WHAT COST!?!?!
@noahsmith5098

The biggest part of this mod is the fact that losing troops actually matters and that you want to fight every battle. This is what made medieval 2 and rome 1 campaigns feel so immersive the fact that even in this battle against two or three units that you still need to conserve your strength because you have to go all the way back to the right settlements to reenforce your men. Part of the reason new total wars feel so boring is bc there is literally no consequences to battles you know you will win and the meter says you will win and to reinforce you just have to hit end turn a few times while you fall asleep at the keyboard

My Rome campaign has been a total blast, my Punic War was actually intense, working my way through Sicily only for a long stalemate and me finally getting a foothold in Africa. I have also had some insanely close battles where it literally came down to my velites to finish the battle. The population mechanic can be frustrating at times, but really adds weight and makes you cringe looking at your losses after each battle. Great mod.

Mine ended up being a *really* crucial naval war where my land armies were tryna fight off the Macedonians and the Arveni while my *one* navy had to basically fight off the entire Carthaginian navy/troop transports for about 20~ turns before I managed to get my land armies around. Dei defo brings back the OG Total War experience but as I don't have as much time to play campaigns as I used to it does feel a bit slow at times but apart from that I defo think that dei is the only mod for rome 2.

I remember when I was playing Rome 2 back in the day I didn't really feel like reading what each building gives so I pretty much just randomly build stuff. I stacked all armies with the classic triarii+principes+hastati+missiles(no triarii later) and a couple of cav to kill archers. I steamrolled through the world as Rome on hard difficulty with no problems. It was just so basic and battle AI was stupid. This looks a lot more interesting.

I just tried DEI for the first time today and I don't think I could ever go back to vanilla. Mainly because it's way more fun to go out and find good units to hire to build out your armies. About to land on Create for the archers for example. My only complaint is turns for a building to be completed is a bit longer than I would like, like 6-10 turns. It feels like it should be 6 max.

I recommend getting DEI from there as well as you need to do a few extra steps if you got your mod from steam. After extracting, it's pretty straightforward. The thing i love about dei is that AI looks for opportunities to expand. As far as i can remember Ai in vanilla was content with just owning a city. This made conquering much easier. In DEI however AI looks for opportunities. They look if faction is fighting anyone else and try to make use of this situation, doesnt turtle in the city (PO penalty). I have never seen Iceni leave british isles in vanilla, yet in DEI they conquered a whole province in todays France territory (dont know the name of region in game). Othher thing: having allies is actually useful. Im currently playing a germanic faction. Im fighting Rome (strongest faction in the game). Parthia ( second strongest faction in the game), since they are really far from where my forces where, took the opportunity and attacked. Was really annoying to deal with, but since i had allies nearby, they helped me a lot and even took 2 settlements from Parthia. Since my allies got bigger, i can now leave my empire flank unproctected (protected by allies, but not my forces). Another funny thing about this war with parthia is they were at war with my neighbours which were scythians. Parthia kept attacking scyhians only remaining settlement. The thing is climate in that region is really harsh and the whole region is really big and tikes few turns to march through. Parthia made i tactical move to use 3 of their armies to attack, but because of attrition, low movement points (winter penalties), drained the entire food supply. Now that region is really hard to conquer for AI, because their armies just starve without reaching their destination :D
@AndysTake

Hey if you want to try out some different campaigns some time, I can recommend the reduced garrisons mod. Small towns are not able to stop big armies anymore. So you cant cheese a 20/20 army with one general and defences in a small town. Gives you incentives to defend and protect your small towns with bigger armies and defensive buildings (i.e: phourion) . Conquering is a bit sped up against small cities. And the AI goes crazy sometimes, you will see scenarios of massive empires you've never seen before and/or emerging nations. It makes it easier for rebellions, rebels and other nations to take territory and expans while also giving you more opportunities.

One of my favourite factions is Rhodos, I played the maritime game with them, with full slinger boat stacks raiding coasts, getting minor settlements, and eventually conquering every single town in mediterranean coast. I cheesed the catapult ships a lot. Good navy let's you move fast and sack everything in the shores and make vassals, if you don't intend to keep the place. With Rhodos also, while conquering Asia Minor (Turkey) I used Armenian territory as my sack city to level up my leader, it was fun to watch when the population was 0 after some time, it was completely desolate, and it gained like 500 people every turn, and then I'd take it back. Though this caused a lot of diplomatic penalties that I didn't count into, I got so powerful general that I could just sweep the enemies. In that playthrough I got my knack on the political side, and you really need to get into that when things start to grow, so your empire doesn't split haphazardly into 3 equal parts that are as strong as you. Remember to get the marriages going, don't get your political enemies killed in battlefield preferably, as it raises their discontent, and diminish their power whenever you can, and eventually you will gain supreme power in your lands eventually without a risk of civil wars.

DEI saved my Rome 2 experience. You have to chose every movement wisely to make sure you don't overextend your supplylines. I also really got attached to certain top tier units with high experience you'd only throw into battle once it started going really bad. Ngl, battles are very though and really need tactics to overcome the Ai's use of top tier units combined with mass lower tier units. But it makes me barely use the auto resolve option because of the fun i have fighting the Ai. About the manpower mechanic, this should've been in the vanilla game imo. The way you can conquer new territory and replenish and recruit faction units right away as in the vanila game is just way too easy to conquer big chuncks of land. Now you have to conquer step by step, make sure your garrisons get refilled, get your public order in the positive and make sure there's enough population to refill you're armies aswell... so yes, it makes the game slower but none the less more enjoyable. One major issue is the diplomacy mechanic. Vanilla diplomacy sucks and tbh DEI didn't manage to function properly either. With random war declarations, but then instantly wanna peace out even if i demand like 10k, 100+ opinion but still don't want to trade or form alliances, client states that don't work the right way... I just think it's near impossible to build a proper diplomacy system on Rome 2, but still hoping this might change. Also... great Review looking forward to more. :)

I really need to vent in this comment section about my DEI Rome campaign and my struggles against Carthage and its African allies. I’ve been playing my Rome campaign for about two months now. It has been both fun and absolutely enraging experience for me and I can’t believe that this campaign will last for another few months for me to finish given the pace of my gameplay. Starting with my conquest of Italy and the war with freaking Epirus which lasted for a while until I finally made took Apollonia and turned those bastards into a client state cause I couldn’t afford to open a second front while fighting Syracuse. Surprisingly Syracuse was defending both against me and Carthage yet still kicked my ass and completely demolished my two legions. I had to spend a few turns to replenish but my population in Magna Gracia was not big enough for me to get enough plebe units. I could have moved to Rome and recruited there but freaking Carthage was moving past Syracuse after defeating them and oh boy it always seems like Carthage has an infinite supply of armies, always coming at me with at least two full stacks and a freaking full stack fleet! I barely defended the border with Sicily and was finally stabilizing a bit for a few turns but this is when shit went south real quick… I feel like I’ve been experiencing the Punic wars for real in this DEI campaign. All my legions were stationed south getting ready to finally take control of Sicily. Since I signed non aggression treaties with my northern neighbors and had pretty solid relations with them I completely forgot about that part of my empire. Took me a good few real life days to stabilize Sicily and get some troops further in Sardinia to get some naval presence going for the first time ever. At this point I have a total of four legions… One in Sardinia and three each in the three cities of Sicily to maintain the defense against Carthage cause they were backstabbing me every time I moved a legion away from any of the Sicilian cities and freaking liberating them which creates a new faction with an entire stack at war with me! Once I built up my one fleet to a full stack I was getting ready to finally invade Carthago and put an end to this misery of endless back and forth warfare against Carthage… THEY FREAKING INVADE FROM GAUL WITH 3 FULL STACKS and each stack with mother fucking elephants!!! How is this even possible??? Like how is this AI doing this??? I almost had a stroke when I saw them and my completely defenseless cities up north. I quickly set all my legions to turn back and go defend Rome… Defense was successful and I crushed their three armies but guess what… Carthage invades Sicily with three full stacks and takes it from me. They also take Sardinia with their freaking navy and because of this my economy just goes to shit and I have mo choice but to delete an entire legion. There is also famine which completely fucks everything up with public unrest all over Italy which causes rebellions and fucking slave uprisings at the same fucking time! Anyways I did reconquer Sicily and Sardinia. I even took Carthage, but only for a few turns cause they came with a few healthy stacks and raped my beaten up legions. I had to retreat back to Sicily. Tried to take Carthage again but they were waiting for me with a few stacks along with a bunch of their allies stacks totaling to about 6-8. I’m freaking stuck at this point and it has been a back and forth war for the past 4-5 weeks. No matter what I do this war is never ending. All my children are dying for some fucked up reason. Good thing is my wife has a good womb so she gets pregnant all the time lol. Numidian cav always rape me man like fuuuuck. Im not a pro in Total War but I dont consider myself bad! I think this campaign I’m playing is just pure hell. Sometimes it feels extremely immersive and hella fun but shiiit I swear one day Ill get a stroke cause of Carthage and its African allies. I deeply hate Carthage now. When I conquer Carthage and defeat its retarded African allies with their Numidian Skirmishers I will pull out my dick and masturbate to celebrate my Triumph 😤

Awesome story. I couldn't help but LMAO at the same time feeling your pain. I might give DEI a try. I tried para bellum and it just wasn't right to me. Playing as Athens and with a half stack garrisoned army along with a small garrisoned naval unit, yet my public order would just keep dropping. Fighting rebellion after rebellion in my own capital for dozens of endless turns. This is after researching all relevant techs and constructing proper public order buildings too. I only managed to capture 3 cities because I can't stray too far due to constant rebellions, while my ally, Sparta went and conquered half the map already. The AI Sparta didn't have any issues with public orders apparently.

I last played as Saka, fun but the skirmishing is a little sub par, so that detracted a little from the gameplay (IE lots of micro management). Beyond that it's an excellent mod. Cataphracts are eye-wateringly good btw, so much fun to slam them into the flanks of beleaguered infantry surrounded by horse archers. Downright invincible if used properly.

Def my favourite tw and mod. The bas odrysians are brilliant. My small land of three cities was up against several armies from Sparta, Athens, Knossos (two full stack armies each faction), Antigonids, Pergamum and Nikomedia. Took a while to break out of it, but managed to beat of nikomedia with a small 7 unit army and a garrison broke several atigniid armies and captured pella. The rest of Greeks began to starve on my lands for several turns and managed to defeat the Spartans armies as they shrank to nothing. Athens retreated and Knossos made peace. Then Rome declared war on me. Haha, brilliant and tense fun. I made peace with both Pergamum and Nikomedia after destroying three of their armies. Getae, scord, and doors are all my good friends and military allies now. Rome has only a few cities left in Eygpt (they had expanded to and taken Alexandria... massive have expanded into Spain and are my solid allies too. Now I am at war with the Celts, particularly the Nervii and their numerous allies.

I had fun at the start of my campaign, especially during my early wars with Epirus and walking on eggshells to avoid a war with Carthage at least until I've consolidated Italia and set up buffer states to the north. However, during my invasion of Carthage, Numidia came in with stacks upon stacks of 20 NOBLE SPEARMEN, against my well-thought out and well-balanced armies composed of elite and non-elite units. Same goes to the barbarian factions with their 20 stack of, you guessed it, NOBLE SPEARMEN. So much for "the best mod".

I had a similar experience with macedon, being invaded by the northern barbarians, romans to the west after i took out epirus and greeks to the south and east. It was a grueling first 40 turns scrambling the same armies to defend my recent gains against numerous enemies. It really comes down to determination, choosing who and where to fight, and how to use the units disposable. The frustration in manually fighting every battle in my own territory, losing many of my boys, only to push them all back and taking their cities with my battered but highly experienced troops is part of the fun. First the greeks and odryssians to give my navy a chance in defending apollonia, then pushing back illyrians and the like all the way up to the river, wiping out pergamon and finally fighting a major war against rome and seleucid. Ahh glorious times.

Currently in a DEI campaign as Rome, after 70ish + turns i have taken Sicily, Carthage, the african coast up to Hispania, the entire eastern coast of hispania and the south of France. Egypt and Judea, bordering the former Seleucid empire. Carthage is no more, the Gauls and Germans clamor to trade with me, and all want to ally with me. I refuse them because i don't want to be involved in barbarian squabbles. I have made one mistake, and i made this mistake in the first ten turns. I did not finish off Epirus. Epirus has; Beaten Macedon, Beaten Athens, Beaten Sparta, Taken Anatolia, defeated the seleucids. And is now allying every minor faction that is bordering me. Their navy is equal or greater to mine, and any war will require me to shuffle huge amounts of men around with a lot of reconquest before i can respond. Could i have prevented this? Sure. I saved my game at the crossroad of where i decided to commit to my fight with Carthage first. Loaded a navy with men and rushed Apollonia. The result? If you can land, you will have a army on foreign soil with a 50% of being completely wiped out. If you take Apollonia, their is a good chance the other greekoids will declare war on you. If they do that army is screwed. Since fighting Phalanx armies early on with spear armed Hastati and Principes is pure pain. The navy meanwhile is at risk of being whiped by Carthages superior navies that are still out in force at this time, leaving the army stranded. If you can deal with this you still have two more problems: The Gauls on your northern border that WILL take advantage of weakness at some point, and the fact that you have to pacify a region non stop while at the same time being bogged in a war with a militarily weaker but economically superior enemy (Carthage) Basically its Cold War: Rome II and i love it. And if you are burned out on Vanilla RTW2, try this mod, i have hundreds of hours into it, and i will keep coming back to it. IF CA made a RTW3 exactly like this it would probably be their best work. Apologies for the diatribe, just wanted to let people know dont sleep on this mod.

Hey little trick when you play as Rome or Carthage to avoid the inevitable punic wars : rush Syracuse and once you conquer it, liberate it. This creates a buffer between the two faction. If you own Syracuse as Rome, Carthage auto-declares war on you, the campaign is coded that way. If you own Syracuse as Carthage the same thing happens. Keep the city as your liberated ally and you can enjoy a friendship and trade with Carthage while you can focus on Epirus and then northern Italy (:

This is a pretty good and basic guide as to how DEI works. Played a ton of DEI in the past, although I get mocked for my saturation settings, I like it that way when I play DEI. DEI completes Rome 2, it's what Rome 2 should have been when it launched, it makes a boring end turn simulator in vanilla into engaging campaigns where you have to take an active role in managing every level of your faction. Beyond all of the systems you mentioned in the video, there is also the individual province bonuses and penalties, they are easy to miss if you aren't familiar with the mod but they are essential for getting the most out of settlement building, for example some settlements have bonuses to agriculture, some to industry, and some to trading while they will generally have penalties against other types of income at the same time. By paying attention to this I managed to bring in a gross amount of income and decent food supply early in my Carthage campaign, it adds yet another amazing layer to the campaign. I say all of this as someone who had been very skeptical of DEI before I tried it, as a lot of people told me it was just making the game more difficult and not fun, anyone reading this if you've heard similar things I'd urge you to disregard that and jump into a campaign, try it for yourself it's worth it.

DEI has some nice ideas, but a lot of it isn't what i'm looking for personally. "Grand Strategy" is perhaps more applicable to Europa, or similar to steel division 2. What makes Rome 2 great in my opinion is its emphasis on tactics, controlling armies. Grand strategy isn't bad, but keeping DEI as a 'mod' or 'option' to tick would perhaps be best. "Spamming" favorite units isn't necessarily an issue per se, I would be more focused on a more tactical AI. Being limited on units via population while the AI spams stacks of units isn't a good time, nor 'challenging' per se. It is more abrasive than challenging. Some points that I think do add to the game- unit icons, variety of units, building tiles, revamped political system. I think the population management is unnecessary, doable, but unnecessary, and doesn't fit well within the way the AI operates. I've played Rome 2 since its release up until present. I've 2,500+ hours on the game alone. What has kept me in the game is the patches they've already implemented, and the DLC.

I got a new top of the line rig two weeks ago. The night it came in the mail, I plugged it in, set it all up, fired up Steam and installed all of my Total War titles. And, now that I had a PC that could effortlessly handle it, I downloaded DEI after reading and hearing all of the hype on forums, KZfaq, etc. Wow, was I blown away. I enjoyed Rome 2 vanilla, especially after all of the much needed updates. But, this was something else. It was so much more in-depth, complex and difficult, in every aspect. I actually had to restart my campaign and turn the difficulty down to easy, and I blew through VH campaigns on vanilla. It took me just under 7 game years to wrestle control of Italy from Epirus and the Etruscans, beat back the invading tribes in Cisalpina, then assault and sack their settlements to force them to submit to a peace treaty (coming back to finish the job after Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica). I really needed to think and plan out every aspect of settlement development, my invasion of Sicily (army comp based upon available manpower, logistics, etc). It was a serious challenge just crossing into and gaining a solid foothold in Sicily, nevermind taking Syracuse. I’ve become so much more attached to my generals and my armies, and even just crossing into Sicily has felt like I’m embarking upon a massive adventure. TL;DR This mod is the Rome 2 experience I’ve been waiting for. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this campaign (and many others) have in store. I can easily see myself happily playing this for years to come. Seriously, hats off to the DEI team - these guys have made, bar none, the greatest Total War overhaul mod of all time, and I eagerly await whatever future updates they have in the pipeline.

Hey, thanks man. That means a lot, having you respond. Yea, it was a great feeling, working hard and getting a high end PC. I’ve run into a few absolutely massive battles during my campaign for Sicily, so I do plan on doubling the RAM from 32GB to 64GB soon to add some strength and sustainability to my setup - DEI does a number on a system, even on higher end setups lol! But yea, this campaign has been by far the hardest and most satisfying I’ve had in a very long time. Unlike vanilla Roman campaigns, where I’d just style on Carthage during the early stages, I had to fight for every square inch of Sicily. It truly brings the Punic Wars into perspective - just how hard the underdog Roman Republic had to fight against the mighty, dominant Carthage, just to gain its first foreign province. That’s how I like to fight, units down to 40 men after several battles, desperately holding off four full stacks trying to cross a bridge, then advancing to take a town with a rag-tag band of what used to be a Legion, two years before. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this campaign (and many others) have in store! P.S. For any other dudes (or gals) reading this who are trying to make some real good money, so they can get a great PC and/or greatly improve their lives, in general - get into the trades (especially welding haha!). A lot of the old timers are hanging up their caps and retiring, and there’s very little fresh blood coming in to take their place, so there’s a massive vacuum in the market. If you have a good work ethic - get in while the gettin’s good! $$$

With this mod, player utilizes every type of unit more, and make more diverse armies than usually, utilizing all the unit types to the fullest. One thing your vid missed about slaves is that there are slaves, but they work as a bonus to economy while affecting negatively to public order, it's like Dark Elves in TW: Warhammer games. One thing I dislike is that many factions are really hard in the beginning, because garrisons are so huge, which I'd like to be less in the beginning, as you always have 2 stacks against you early game vs your one stack that you have money for. But I'll never go back to vanilla rome after I started this few years ago, It's the definitive Rome 2 experience. One other gripe I have, is that when expanding, armies tend to be a bit samey, as you need to rely on foreign units, and those are same for everyone, so bigger your empire gets, you need to rely on those foreign troops mostly. Also one thing you forgot to mention is that there are factions here that you can't play in basic game without DLCs. Thanks for the info about the beta, got it in that instant and playing Atropatkan now, one of the easiest factions as early game spearmen have bows too. Every eastern faction with spearmen archers are OP. Also one thing about the vassals in DeI, is that they are really useful now, roaming your territory suppressing revolts and attacking enemies properly, without the fear of backstabbing player every time. You want to make vassals only in provinces you aren't going to capture properly, so you don't lose the building slots there. Also you didn't mention banditry feature. One thing with supplies I dislike is that it the baggage train takes out a unit slot and is rarely worth it and that's why I usually use food stores that supply nearby provinces.
@dannyanggawan
@dannyanggawan 2 жыл бұрын
i've abandoned baggage train, and i dont even think to build food atorage to supply the army. the different arent so big. im roaming far away from my teritory to fight my allies war. the problem is unit replenishment, as for harsh season i just need to stop for few turns. i used 24 turns per year, so i need to calculate when campaigning in north and dessert.

(Medieval 2, Rome, Rome 2, Shogun 2) I doubt CA is capable of creating a grand historical game better than any of those either way. Which is also why i don't mind them focusing on different things, such as Warhammer, Three Kingdoms, Troy, etc. Though i'm not buying 3K because they cut support for it and are making it obsolete with a sequel, i'm not about to support that before they make a grovelling apology and give freebies in the second 3K game for the owners of 3K, or a discount.

If you love the base game, I would finish up my campaign. But if you’re getting impatient or really want to try DEI, I would just go for it! I covered most of the basics in this video, and if you have questions just feel free to ask them :)

As an OG RTW player I loved the SPQR mod to death. I’ve been putting off Rome II for years after reading the initial reviews and after the disaster that was Empire TW. I was really pissed at how bad Empire was from the ground up. AI’s broken naval invasions, trickle in reinforcements, battle map not matching the strategic map, not being able to choose my reinforcing armies in a multi stack battle, siege attackers being rope climbing ninjas/no ladders required, and the promised modding tools CA promised but never delivered. I was even more disappointed when CA basically abandoned support for Empire and they released Napoleon while Empire was STILL broken! Anyway thanks for this great video. I look forward to getting back into Total War after a decade’s long hiatus. This mod looks amazing!

Aye I love the Vanilla Rome 2 + 4 turn per year / Traits and Toadies is an excellent play experience. But with the new DEI that’s gonna be much much better too sweet :3

Thinking of getting Rome 2, should I play the vanila game first or jump straight into DEI? Never played any TW game btw.

I remember getting Rome 2 years after it had been released and it absolutely bored me. Automatic replenishing took away all the consequences of battles, champions could turn your worst troops into unstoppable killing machines within a matter of turns, artillery was so overpowered, the vast majority of the events available in the politics system were absolutely unnecessary, and not being able to swap or split your troops up into different groups never made any sense to me. After hearing about this mod though, I’ll give it a shot. Definitely sounds like what the vanilla game should’ve been.

I haven't played DEI in a long time but it remains one of my favourite all-time mods for Total War titles. Having said that, I personally was not a big fan of the shape of the Roman shields... Even in imperial legions the DEI Romans weren't using the rectangular scutum that we've come to associate with imperial roman legions
