There is not a single verse saying that it is a sin for a man, but it is a sin for a woman, as she can only have one man unless her current husband dies. The only men that were told to not have multiple, were kings (even though they still could) or pastors of the church. So no, it isn't just "recorded". Where is the verse where Jesus scolded the concept, because in all my searching, I couldn't find it. In fact, In Jeremiah you can see God himself referring to his "two wives", Israel and Judah, both being referred to as sisters who he divorced. Interesting that God himself would use such a metaphor, if he didn't frown upon the practice.
