During a recent sporting event, the NCAA warned a team if they played Metallica they would be fined. The fans were outraged and made sure Metallica could be heard throughout the entire arena.

1991 "My friend of misery" is the first song where newsted gets credited as co-writer, however he actually wrote the riff to 1988 "blackened"

This shows the influence of Metallica's music over the span of their entire career. Rock and metal will never die no matter how much people want to censor it or get it away. This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Who's trying to censor it? It was a decision made based on sports neutrality, not the music itself. Censoring it would be coming into your home and confiscating your CD because some official power took issue with the lyrics or genre of the song. Nothing like that is happening here.

Rob's originals kick ass compared to anything Jason's done. When u do a combo with Les Claypool, u know you're great. Metallica made the right decision waaaaay back in 2001! Get over it already. Justice was released 1988. Why gripe when u can just listen to his new band? Aren't they good? No. They suck!

Gave me goosebumps. And it sent a message to the woke organisers. I'm sure the other team could have had a cool song when they came on. I don't understand why the organisers did this. It has nothing to do with the match being neutral. I'm not an expert though so correct me if I'm wrong.... happy to learn. Cheers.

Don't know how many play rugby, but is most of the commonwealth countries and many more non commonwealth. Plus the English would argue soccer is the real footy. Don't like soccer but I wouldn't argue. never watched a full match of American footy, but it looks interesting, just stops and starts so much I get bored with it. I might give it another go though.... cheers.

Yeah, totally agree. Sounded like some woke BS to me. Our society is really on a downward trend when you can't even play a song comming on to the field. I'm sure the other side could have. And a song doesn't change the game at all. The more talented team will win. But it does boost some people to enjoy the game, take pride in their team and maybe give it their all. No downside and no advantage for anyone. Really makes me worry about today's society.

You Don't put the words "BANNED" And METALLICA in the same sentence together!! Even though a lot of Their best songs came out in the '80's and '90's they're still just as great today because they don't have that '80's hair band sound to it, IT DOES NOT GET OLD! I believe Blackened was the first song written off And Justice For All and that was the first studio album written after Jason joined the band. Garage Days doesn't count since it was a cover album.

That song gets a lot of flack from the Metal fan base. Yeah, it's completely over played but I think it's still a killer tune that hits a lot of people pretty hard and just vibes and makes them rowdy. That's a cool thing that crowd did. I love that that entire community is like "no F U, this our mother F'n battle cry so we're gonna do it anyway!" There are few better compliments a band can get than that I think.

I am a VT fan and wasn't aware of this "ban" on Metallica, so this is hilarious and great that the students, possibly staff and fans, started this. This, however, isn't the only song being played by Metallica by a collegiate team. FSU plays For Whom the Bell Tolls for its home and playoff games. Saw it at the ACC championship game one year with FSU and VT. Go Hokies and Metallica 4 Life!!!

Playing Enter Sandman very well could give the team an advantage! Look at the Pontiac High School football team in Michigan! One year they were having a losing season. The coach started playing KISS music and they went on to win a state football championship after listening to KISS! Members of the KISS Army already know this story, but for those of you who don't, the City of Pontiac invited KISS to come be a part of KISS Day, which they created after winning that state title. Gene said they rolled into town and EVERYBODY!!! The teachers, the principal, the assistant principal, government officials, were ALL DECKED OUT IN KISS MAKE-UP!!!😆😆😆

ECU has hosted NCAA Baseball Regionals and a Super Regional and the NCAA tries to force the game atmosphere to be neutral to the teams involved--it is BS for sure, as hosting these is the goal just about every school with the facilities to do so for their successful team. You play for the hosting nod for that advantage versus going on the road. It's just plain stupid. If they wanted to be fair, let the teams at last get their favorite song played as a intro to the event .

This is why I just shake my head when people disagree with me when I see the first five Metallica albums are there classic albums. I’m not saying that the Black album is as good as the first for albums and I think some metal fans don’t understand the definition of a classic album. If 70,000 people jumping up and down screaming the lyrics to your song and they’ve been doing it for 23 years I think it’s safe to say that song is a classic. A classic doesn’t mean you like it personally. I’m not a country music fan, but I know there are country music songs that are classic songs. Metallica or legends, no one’s making anyone listen to albums they don’t want to listen to so chill out. For me personally they’ve been my favorite band for 33 years now and they’re the reason I’m a fan of metal today.

Who else has Lars sued besides Napster? Enlighten me. If that's a dig at Lars over suing Napster, I don't understand why? Lars was right about Napster! Would you work for free? Would you want a foreign entity to have control over your art? Metallica (specifically Lars) was the only band with balls big enough to sue Napster. Tons of bands were supporting and applauding Metallica for suing Napster! Jerry Cantrell and Alice In Chains for one! Hell, even Dr. Dre was supporting them! Metallica gives away more free stuff than any band! They upload full concerts all the time, for free! They upload live songs all the time, for free! It wasn't about the fans downloading the songs for free. It was the fact that a company stole their music without permission before it was even released! If you watched the trial, you'd know this. I never understood the shit Lars and Metallica get for the Napster thing. They were 100% right! Plus, Lars is brilliant! He saw this new age streaming craze coming before it happened. That's another reason why Metallica is so successful, Lars is a genius! He's a great songwriter/arranger, businessman, promoter, and visionary, and his drive and determination, especially in the early days, is second to none!
