🤬Sony blocked this video and the audio of the song was removed. This is so annoying because there are lots of channels that have this same video but ours was singled out.
For this we throw Alexis into the deep end with Painkiller from Judas Priest as her introduction to the metal gods. Burch explained that this was a very important video at the time because of all the mediocre bands and music being pushed to the public and this was truly a gut check for the metal community.

Good reaction, I think for the people that isn’t often listening metal music is kind of loud and noisy, because you’re coming from the confort zone playing soft beautiful notes and BANG ‼️. I remember this song/ album, we were 4 guys in the room and some of us had the last JP CD and put it . When I heard those notes, sounds and screaming along the whole album i said “ this one is……❤❤the best “ , but I created some split between us. One of us said “ I don’t think so, the best is the last one “ and we started a discussion between us, bitters and upsetting since that moment, we separated as a friends. So I remember 1990 so well. For me was frustrated because after this album Rob Halford left JP and Bruce Dickinson did the same with IM. Sad

Should start with Turbo Lover....it has training wheels. It is still, by far, one of my fav Priest albums. They themselves even say it was geared toward younger teens and thus the different feel of the album. Saw them on their Turbo Lover tour in '86 and Krokus opened. Ahhh, to be 16 again...

The Painkiller album was also a reaction to themselves - they had gotten soft in the later 80's, playing what amounted to pop-metal and there was an uprising of new Thrash Metal bands like Metallica, Anthrax & Slayer who were really, really heavy compared to what was popular, and so, to me, this album is the guys in Priest saying "Oh... so you lot think your hard, do you? Well here's a musical punch to the face to remind you who started this whole thing"

I too. In Lisbon, Portugal. Now, the difference in the sound quality on that triple concert was also shocking to me. I like most Testament than Megadeth, but it doesn't matter in this particular case: the Testament sound was not that good, but then, Megadeth was, oowow! But nothing had prepared me to the third band (the reason that got me to that concert). Judas Priest was absolutely incredible. And though Halford could not be twenty years younger, it was great to notice how his voice grew and grew to such heights... What an experience. Unforgettable.

The screaming to me is a release. It's a form of therapy that allows someone to unleash their demons onto the world. An escape from the day to day normality. Not the same old dainty melody that everyone is expected to like but a moment of pure raw emotion that's in most cases relatable.

my experience with Rob Halford was during the CD signing of his Christmas album, Celestial in 2019. This was in Tempe, Arizona. i figured that it was just going to be, hand him the cd, he signs it and says hi then on to the next. we actually had 2-3 minutes and i was caught off guard and not prepared. my first words to him was "Happy Caturday" and he responded "all the kitties need love, too" I was in the presence of THEE Metal God.

When I was a junior in high school, about 15 years ago, i was already into Judas Priest ... but I hadn't yet heard this song. I was browsing a music site while working on a project in class, and I scrolled down to J and found about 5 Judas Priest songs.... one of them, the only one I wasn't familiar with was Painkiller. So I clicked on it, waited a few seconds for it to load, and proceeded to recieve the biggest ass kicking I ever had in my life

Introducing someone to Judas Priest with Painkiller is like asking someone to jump into a blender when it's running at full speed. It's an amazing album and one of my favorite metal bands. You should definitely introduce Alexis to some of their early 80's songs, too.

"Painkiller" was such a shock to the system when I listened to the cassette for the first time back in 1990. I was 21 at the time and had been a fan of Judas Priest for about 5-6 years by that point. While I had liked Turbo & Ram it Down, the band did sound like they had adjusted for Glam/Hair Metal during the mid/late '80s. But when I hit play on this bad boy after buying it the day of release.... Oof. This was Priest telling all those Thrash outfits that had kicked Metal into a higher gear during that time period "Hold our beers." Iron Maiden's my favorite band that I'd file under the generic tag of "Heavy Metal", but if I was going to name one song that IS Heavy Metal - it's "Painkiller". And speaking of Maiden - Nicko McBrain's opening salvo for "Where Eagles Dare", along with Scott Travis kicking-off "Painkiller" are two of the best new drummer introductions ever.

I’m a 57 yr old professional working musician (drummer) with a 9 year old daughter I’m trying to educate on the BIG influences of metal, hard rock, southern rock etc etc… my current band has one album out and a second soon to be available. And damnit… my little girl still doesn’t understand the concept of rock music. Although she’s flourishing in her piano lessons… (which is a huge relief knowing she has that music bug)… so I’ll be watching you two and taking notes…lol Great reaction, great dialog, great choice in what to react to.

Judas Priest's producer Tom Allom: "He (Rob Halford) always had this unreal voice that any metal singer would die for... and it just got better when he gave up drinking (around 1986)..." Rob Halford (vocals) is actually very cool - a proper British (gay) gentleman. Even during his drug and alcohol days, he never made the tabloids for bad behavior (He admitted he did get arrested for certain questionable acts, but it never went public)... He actually also has a very subtle vocal delivery on Priest songs like - 'Angel' ... 'Last rose of summer'... He has a Halford solo album called 'Wintersongs' which is him singing Christmas songs. It showcased his dynamic voice 🤘🤘

This album is what brought Metal back from the brink. After all of the "hair metal" bands and grunge movement, this album was an eye opener and Metal as it should be, was back.

They are known as the metal gods. Rob was the one who introduced black leather and the studed outfits to metal. There is a story about it somewhere. Should play her some of the older Priest music where it show cases his full range into almost operatic. Seen him live on the painkiller tour was phenomenal. Still best show I've ever seen, I'm 55 now and grew up with all the 80s metal and hard rock. Awesome job you two are doing thanks

Metal Gods to who? Fans? Fair enough. To others JP is glam metal, not that far from Kiss who are pop rock

@@zane4575 There have been many interviews with other metal bands and they call them metal gods. They stared back in the early 70s about 73. Everything else was classed more or less rock n roll or hard rock. As for kiss completely different, they were hard kinda hard rock glam even discoish at times. They had an edgey appearance and flashy stage show, JP influenced a lot of other bands. Kiss basically started glam with the make up and all the hairspray bands. But to each their own, I enjoy 95 percent of it all.

Another cool reaction video from you gals and gals, how about doing a reaction video to the Irish guitar legend. Rory Gallagher - (Shin Kicker) live at Montreux 1979, Rory's concerts are legendary, high energy, amazing guitar playing, just so amazing watching him and his band play, they are all so talented. Rory sold over 30 million albums thru the 1970s. Keep Rory Gallaghers music alive, thank you!

Priest is one of the few bands that constantly evolved their sound album to album without losing their fans. Their look look evolved along with the music . This song was the answer to whether they could keep pace with the newer Thrash bands. Rob would go even harder with his band Fight , Then delved into industrial with 2wo and the back to his more priest like sound with Halford before rejoining Priest. The 1st non Rob album with Ripper was a answer to Rob's band Fight it saw Priest even harder than here on Painkiller.

It was nothing like what you told her, man. WHATT DA That time was a highest peek of metal bans productivity. Metallica - Black album 1991 Megadeth - Rust in Peace 1990 Judas Priest - Painkiller 1990 Ac/Dc - Razor's Edge 1990 Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears 1991 Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark 1992 not to mention really, really heavy metal bands

Have you done Iron Maiden "Run to the Hills"? I bought the album new in '82, loved it then, over time still love it, even cited it in native studies paper (A++). A significant piece in many ways.

introduce Alexis to a live Boston song . Pick any song because , well it's Boston . Fill her in on the formation of the band . What all Tom Scholz had to do with the lyrics , the instruments , the sounds and the recording of the album ! I believe she will be impressed ! How can anyone not be ?

I've seldom seen reactions to this song that point out that they also had just picked up a new drummer and this album was showing off how bad ass he is.

It's been said before, but a cut-by-cut (or just certain songs) reaction to the Sad Wings of Destiny album would be a great selection. At least four of those songs are in my Priest Top 20, maybe 10.

Wasn't this the last Priest album with Rob Halford until the mid 2000's and the 1st album with Scott Travis on drums ? Tipton and Downing absolutely shed their solos. 🤘🙌✌️
