First time hearing Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark

I was so excited for this and to show Alexis Iron Maiden for the first time. I chose Fear of the Dark, the live recording because I thought it would be easier to understand what Iron Maiden is as a band when you see energy, performance and sheer crowd size. You can describe Iron Maiden concerts but it's impossible to convey the energy of their live performance unless you have been there. There are so many choices from the Maiden catalog it is hard to choose. To all the fellow Maiden fans "up the irons" ‪@ironmaiden‬ fan for life!

And of course Adrian left the band in 1990, Janick Gers replaced him, then in 2000 Adrian wanted back in the band, so instead of telling him your slot was filled or firing Janick they said, why not have 3 lead guitarists? We're Iron Maiden, we can do what we want

And honestly it’s led to a streak of pretty solid late career output. They haven’t really put out a mediocre album since before Brave New World. Idk what it is but they have three guitarists and it kicks ass

And you think of other bands can't keep four people in the band over percentages of profit, but they went from a five to a six piece. They did it because they enjoy playing together.

The BEST thing about Maiden, is their mix. They don’t favor any one artist. You can hear everyone individually, giving everything they’ve got. They all shine, from singer, to guitar, to bass, to drummer. Their mix always shows everyone on equal footing.

Bruce actually has fallen. The floor was slippery from the night before and when he tried to stop he slipped, falling over Nico the drummer, caught his hand on a symbol tearing a bunch of muscles, came up singing, finished the show and nobody noticed.

I went to that gig, I'am actually from Santiago and that concert was insane. Iron Maiden is very popular here in Chile. I have seen them 10 times (8 in Chile, 1 rock in rio and 1 madison square garden) and Chile 2009 - Ckub hipico is by far the most incredible show I've seen from them. Try to react to Aces High - Live Chile 2009. Cheers from Chile and Up the Irons!!

I am happy that you did a reaction to a more recent live performance, I've seen so many reactions to their older videos, and there is nothing wrong with that, I just see it so much, that this was a breath of fresh air to see a reaction to a more recent performance. 😊 Iron Maiden is one of my two favorite bands, I had the opportunity to see them in Spokane, WA on 9/30/22 and they were AWESOME! 😁 It waz the first time I got to see them live, I loved the entire experience, and I can say without a doubt seeing them live is an experience on a whole different level. They still are an amazing band.

I don't know how to get here but I must say that I loved how he explained everything about Maiden. xD That night I was there was the first time I saw them live, traveling 6 hours by bus, having the police take away my food and drinks, spending almost 20 hours without eating, it was worth everything to see them, see Janick on your left, skip everything the concert as a child, see Bruce run around the stage, gesticulate, exaggerate his movements, see Adrian's "serious" face but enjoy it, see Dave's smile throughout the concert, hear Steve's bass gallop, and listening to every stick of Mr. Nicko, is one of the best things that can happen. I saw them on 11, 13, 16 and 19, I hope to see them again the next time they come to Chile. And a recommendation of their walks around Chile is the concert they gave in 2009 and the song Sactuary. Google translator. xD...

I saw I.M. first time in Copenhagen in 1978/79. Iron Maiden was warmup for Kiss. This was with Poul D´Ianno....and I.M. was incredible. Best part was the crowd was screaming for I.M. 45 minutes after Kiss was started.....Absolutely amazing. Second time was with Bruce as singer. 2 of my buddy´s was wearing a patch on thier back with "666" on it. Bruce called them up and turned thier backs to the audieance while I.M was playing "Number of the beast". That was cool.

I love your story about playing Steve's bass! In 2003, Columbus Ohio, I was front row on the fence right in front of Dave Murray. At the end of the set, during the song Iron Maiden, Dave turned his guitar upside down on the monitor to get the feedback squeal. He had both of his elbows locked around the body of the guitar, so he waved at me, and pointed at the neck. I grabbed the neck and moved it around to get the squeals! Highlight concert moment of my life! So KILLER! So, when they finally go into the rocknroll hall of sham, Yes, intentional typo, I expect to be listed as a former guitarist of the band!

I was at a Maiden concert a few years ago in Houston, TX. Whenever they finished their set and were transitioning into the encore, Nico (drummer) took off the snare head, signed it and frisbee'd it into the crowd. I was in the pit and it flew right overhead and circled back. I never jumped so high in my life. I'm only 5'7 but I somehow managed to catch it. Have it hung up on my wall next to the guitar pick I got from Tony Iommi when he was touring with Black Sabbath as Heaven and Hell with Dio before he passed.

Another great review guys! You and I are about the same age Burch, I relate so much because of the similar likes including rock, photography, etc. I love the stories too! You should have blown Alexis' mind even more by mentioning that Bruce was a commercial pilot and used to fly their tour planes. My 11 yr old daughter just made me such a proud papa this past week, making her first iTunes playlist from a bunch of my 80s rock library, and also doing some great acrylic paintings (on some old CDs) which included the Killers album art, a Foo Fighters piece, and a few others. She's got them proudly displayed on her bedroom wall! Up the Irons!!

it always gets me to tears - that amazing crowd joining in on the first note. Many (if not all) artists have crowds, parts of crowds singing the choruses with them. Plenty have crowds joining in on some stanzas of some songs. This is the only example I know, when the crowds sings the guitar riff (AND lyrics when it's time) and from the first to last note. I was in a crowd at a Whitesnake show joining in on ALL THE LYRICS of all the songs, but not on guitar lines... IM are among my 10 favorite bands but "Fear of the Dark" may be my favorite hard rock album (next to Trash and Brutal Planet from Alice Cooper, Kiss's Revenge and Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers and InRock).

I first came into Maiden's Fandom in about 1988 after their "Seventh Son" release. I think I have bought their catalog about 4 different times now. The original pressings on cassette as they came out, and then somewhere in the mid or late '90s, they did 24-bit remasters that included a bunch of B-sides from all of the Singles from that album. Then in the 2000s, I bought the 1998 Remasters on CD, but they suffered from the Loudness War which blew out the changes in the sound levels between softer parts and big louder parts, which would give you loud soft parts, and then when loud parts were supposed to hit, they'd come in with a "eh?" and even at a slightly lower volume than the softer parts. But then in 2015, the band did a total and proper remaster of their entire catalog without the Loudness War BS. And what they did first was to go to the UK Archives around 10 Downing St. Collect all the old Analog Master Tapes, restore them, because they were getting old...then they digitized them, and then they did the remastering job on them which has made them sound the best they ever have. Some albums are still a bit, "huh?" But for the most part, they sound great. They released them in spurts, like 4 or 5 albums at a time. And they did Vinyl releases first. And they finished up that run in 2017, then in 2018 they followed up with CD releases. And by 2020 they finished the studio album run. I bought all of those and like I said, they sound fantastic. Steve's bass comes thru even better on the very early releases. So Burch, if you don't have these 2015 remasters, I highly recommend them. Now that that's out of the way, the one song that I think you should show your lady friends here is "The Red and The Black" from the 2015 album, Book of Souls. It is a long one at around 13, 14 minutes, and has some excellent melodic guitar solo sections between Adrian, Dave, and Janick. And I would suggest doing the Book of Souls (live) Tour version so you can see and show her the amazing stage presence of the band. I especially love how Janick plays his solos with the guitar pointing straight up yo the sky.

That short time you mentioned when Bruce left the band a singer called Blaze Bailey took over for a few years. In the early days they definitely wore spandex and in the 90s they changed to the jeans and t-shirt which is such an awesome look. Dave Murray & Adrian Smith were the original guitarist, then Janick Gers took over for Adrian. I was blown away when Adrian came back and they went with a 3 guitar line up, the layers they can produce are amazing!!! Been a Maiden Head since is was 9yrs old and they still give me the chills. Excellent, can’t go wrong with Maiden! I saw them years ago and they were as good as one would expect. Every member of the band is exceptionally talented and it shows. Took my Dad for his birthday and it’ll always be a great and important memory. Seeing Megadeth in a few months for the first time, very excited for that! I know I’ve already requested the Newsted Metallica stuff, but surely you can’t go wrong checking out some Megadeth as well (think Holy Wars would have to the track of choice!). Great video as usual!

Great song choice, captured them in an epic live performance to showcase the talent of the band. Love how excited you were for this!! I’m a new sub, pick more Maiden!! Hallowed be thy name, Seventh son, Rhythm of the Ancient Mariner etc… too many to choose from.

Big Steve Harris fan as well, speaking of small venues a year ago I got to see British Lion in a club with maybe 100 people. Steve brought the same energy to that show as this one in the video. May be my favorite show ever.

Someone might have mentioned it earlier but Lady Gaga is a HUGE Maiden fan. She's seen them many times (there are pix online of her backstage with the boys) and called them the greatest live act. I'm not a pop fan but that's pretty good praise.

Maiden played in Chile its was the first time in 20 years as they were banned by the government. The amount of people at the gig there were as many fans outside who could not get in and had to be cleared by the army

One of the times I saw Iron Maiden was in Japan. The crowd there were also singing all of the lyrics. During Number of the Beast I asked the guy next to me if he knew what he was singing and he replied "what?" in Japanese. I asked again and he said "No Engrish".
