Aside from the heavy smoke, this is a really beautiful place to explore. This is the abandoned town of Jordan River. Located on Vancouver Island, British Columbias most seismically active location, Jordan River was in the perfect location for a disaster. Poor city planning placed this town just below a large water reservoir, opening the possibility of a terrible flood if every the dam was to break. Luckily this did not happen, and hasnt happened yet but never the less, the city had to be evacuated and abandoned. Many of the buildings have been demolished, moved or reclaimed by nature, but there is still much to see.
Thank you for enjoying.

Little known fact about the Jordan River generating unit . . . it's operations includes pulse flows at certain time of year specifically for surfers. Powerhouses are kind of a dime a dozen but the hollow cone valve at Diversion dam that fills Elliott dam up sufficiently for generation is a very cool thing to see up close when it's open. You can juuuust see it at 1:40 (the circular thing at the bottom left of the dam).

As a B.C. Hydro tree contractor i got to work in the area a few times , once was to cut trees on a powerline going to the damm about half way up , from back in the day they first used a water flume to run the lower power station and there are sections still up there to see

Hey Dustin It was Great having the oportunity to meet you in Courtenay today . Tracy and I had quite a chuckle when we were talking about you and the door of an RV pops open and you stepped out . I am going through my VI back roads map book tonight to see if I can get a Couple other ideas for you . Another interesting island is Savary Island which can be reached from Powell River like Texada . In Powell River their are some old Ships that were from the Nuke Tests that were done at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific . They are now a Breakwater . The Father & Son who did the Seahunters Show went there and dove them . Telegraph Cove near Port McNiell has Wildlife viewing . Lots of Eagles . Tribune Bay on Hornby Island is worth checking out . If looking for campsites check out Mosaics forestry campsites on their website . I think the are free . Now if you had more time for adventure . There was an old Steam Engine North West of Campbell River that was last spotted from the Air many years ago . No one has ever been able to locate it from the ground and is no longer visible from the Air . Almost like the one in Arrow Lakes . Happy Trails Bro . Tks again

Crabbed once a long time ago when I was a teen. My uncle's mom took me out on St. Simon's Island here in Georgia. We crabbed right off the beach. All the swimmers around us had no clue what was just beneath the sand. Ate good that night. Enjoyed the video. I really enjoy seeing your adventures

If it’s the same rock crab as is down in Tacoma, WA (I’m sure they are) you can snap off a large claw and throw the crab back in. They will grow the claw back apparently and you get the best part of the rock crab for dinner.

@@karleebrown6441 nah all along the Pacific west coast red rock and Dungeness are regulated by size and sex Red rock crabs may attain shell widths of 160 millimetres across the shell but are generally smaller than dungeness crabs. The legal harvest width in British Columbia is 115 millimetres across the widest part of the shell. BC and Washington have the same size regs and I think so do Oregon and cali but that I can't be sure coz I never fished those last 2 states
