I’m with Simon on this. These clubs have 50+ professional players and know the schedule waaay in advance. It’s the managers choice, making the players play twice in 3 days, not the fixture schedule. They could have easily plan ahead and rotate. Maybe we should offer each team a choice at the beginning of the year… like a Christmas bonus… you can revive an extra £3mil in TV money or have a longer break… which ones do you think the clubs will choose???!!

Yeah some of what you said is right but it’s not that simple. And clubs do not know months in advance as all but one of the competitions they play in are knockout ones, no one can predict who is gonna play and when it will be played. And every aspect of being a player is far more intensified than it was 30 years ago. Physically, mentally, socially it’s much more difficult than it was back then even if they do get paid too much.
@rogersmith422

Spot on. If a player has played too many games and is facing burn out, its up to the manager to 'manage' and slot a squad player in. I believe the players should be protected from a manager who would expect them to play every minute of every game by making a ruling that a player 'must' be rested after their 5th consecutive game (perhaps exclude semi's, finals and last game of season).

It has been proven beyond any doubt by sports scientists that recovery is crucial and is non-negotiable. You can't force your body to recover ahead of time. This scenario happens ONCE A YEAR. These players and managers do not live in the real world. What do the rest of us have to do when we’re exhausted from work and have to go in again the next day? We get on with it because we have no choice. Are we at risk from injury at work because we’re overworked and over tired? Many of us are yes. Klopp needs to shut up moaning and stop trying to force a change to an English footballing tradition that’s been around for ages. If he don’t like it he shouldn’t have come here.

They've asked that we all applaud them at the start of each game, even though we live in a country of 67 million people who don't see eye-to-eye on anything, let alone politics. At many clubs, the players seemingly are allowed to get their manager fired just by having a quiet word with the chairman that "the gaffer's lost the dressing room". Remember when Beckham joined Real Madrid? Next thing we knew, England had to play in Madrid's all-white kit. Now you've got them whining that they don't want to play twice in three days. So don't! Just excuse yourself & the manager can pick someone else. Use your squad if the first 11 don't want to play. The like of Jordan Henderson assume powers that they have no right to. Well said Simon. All clubs suffer with injuries and all clubs have roughly the same fixture congestion so the December bump in the road is the same for all. In fact, the bigger clubs with greater resources are best placed to ride out that bump. As for Gerrard and Henderson- there is no government lockdown so everyone is going to work and mixing with folk. As a teacher I work in a school with 1500 kids who mix every day and go home to families, so do my own kids. And just for the record I saw Matty Cash in selfridges yesterday and the place was packed. I've not got a problem with this but Stevie G needs to be aware that his players are happily out and about not isolating themselves in bunkers after training.

In my line of work, I've met a lot of current EPL players. The average top level footballer (not mentioning names here) is basically a nice person. But they are also noticeably below average in both intelligence and work ethic. They tend to be soft, un-masculine men as well. I don't say this hatefully, I think it is simply true. Simon is incorrect however. The average professional footballer in England could not handle a normal job- they literally couldn't do it. @romozusi

Supply and demand. Not many people (most likely 0.0001%) can play elite level football whereas a far higher number once trained can work in the public sector. That’s an indisputable fact. There for a scarce resource like an elite level football will earn much more due to the lack of availability of people who could do his job to the same level. In addition, millions of people around the world consume football. Advertising revenue, merchandise etc. The market dictates the salaries whether you like it or not. So this is a non-argument.

I wonder why England have never won a major tournament in god knows how many years Jurgan came from a country Germany who know how to look after there players and clubs they have winter breaks time for players to recover and perform at there best and it’s no surprise Germany as an international side have won so much All we do is live in the past we never move forward over the years so many of our best players have though injury not been at major tournaments or carried injuries into tournaments we just play them into the ground,as for Simon He’s from a past generation and sadly still lives there time to move on.

Spot on, what is the harm in trialing it for a season it's only a suggestion, not sure why Simon is making it a big deal and it if wasn't for foreign coaches we would be stuck with watching sub standard football and the PL would not be the best league in the world.
