Even though S4 wasn't one of my favourites overall, it did contain some brilliant stand out episodes of which Something Blue was one. The comedy here is achingly funny, you can see in S4 Willow becoming more reliant of magic each time she has a crisis, and a potential Spuffy relationship, but in a comedic way. Hilariously funny when Giles and Buffy use the words impotent and flaccid referring to Spike in the bath. Interesting too that Spike is so much more perceptive of Willow's pain over Oz. Overall a great episode to look back on.

Hey Vic, your hair looked great in this one! Imagine the call Amy's actress got from her agent. "Yeah, they want you back on Buffy for a brief scene..." It has been about 3 weeks since Oz left, at least in terms of air dates, it could have been longer within the show's time frame.

I love this episode SO much. It's one of my favorites of the season! There are a few really great episodes this season, and this is definitely one of them.

Glad you had fun with a humorous and sly episode. The laughs are obvious, the development of Buffy and Riley is out front , Spike is now a Pavlov dog, and in typical Buffy style…. Many moving parts are grinding forward before our eyes that we are unaware. Something Blue reminds us just how talented the actors are with their characters. It’s rare that a group can be so darn good at the very different roles…. Action, drama, tragedy, understated comedy, slapstick, and rom com. This is both action and classic tv humor without missing a beat. Keep up the wonderful reactions and buckle up for a roller coaster of a final 13 episodes starting next.

Back in the day (non-pause able tv) we had to teach ourselves to react to the horror/ drama/ comedy without making a sound, just so we didn't miss the next line... You seemed to have captured this. Loving your reactions.

The scene of Spike clueing in Buffy and Giles on Willows state is one of the most perfect examples of how he shows that he is an empath...because William was one. His intuition and how he can zero in on others' feelings so easily that he can't understand how others miss it. I love this episode. It's hilarious. James killed me and had me laughing so hard..Sarah was great too. #Spuffy❤

I think Willow's inability to move forward has at least a couple of reasons: Oz was her 1st love (Xander may have been her 1st crush, but her 1st romantic relationship was Oz & it was a true mutual commitment) & that the relationship didn't end for lack of love. As with Buffy & Angel it was life circumstances. I do think Will is being a little hypocritical, though. When Buffy & Angel broke up Willow was the 1st to push Buffy to start dating again (not unlike when Angel lost his soul in season 2 & again after Buffy sent Angel to hell). Now that it's her pain she's mad at everyone close to her for not being more understanding about why she's having difficultly moving on. She now has a better understanding of what Buffy went through, but she's not acknowledging that pushing Buffy into moving on wasn't really in Buffy's best interest. Whenever someone says they're not ready for a new relationship, trust them on it. Leave them be. That said, this is one of my favorite episodes! I love the near non-stop humor!! We definitely needed it. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

It's been a while since I've watched episodes, but as I recall, though Willow did encourage Buffy to date and played a little bit of matchmaker with Riley, she never did urge it in terms of Buffy getting over her pain. I believe she also recognized the attraction Riley was feeling toward Buffy, so there was something to work with. Willow is basically being told to get over it, and people are feeling impatient with her, rather than actually communicating with her.

Re: Giles being too harsh on Willow about “shirking her responsibilities” - the way I always interpreted this conversation is that Giles is trying to get her to talk about her feelings and what’s going on with her, but he puts his foot in his mouth right away and messes it up. From how the conversation continues what it always seems like to me is that Giles is trying to say ‘you don’t seem like yourself it’s unlike you to say you’ll do something and forget it’ without the judgment of being angry. He means ‘this is the reason I am concerned and I am concerned will you talk to me’ but unfortunately he doesn’t use the right language. He doesn’t approach it with the gentleness he should and Willow is like an open wound right now so she hears ‘you didn’t do something you should have done’ and not ‘I am concerned about you,’ and it activates her angry defensiveness. think both of them are emotionally coming from the right place in this scene, but are not listening to each other.

Dsds? 😕 I live how fanfiction-y the episode is without being direct fanfiction storytelling. I get how Willow was feeling, but I also think cookies is a lousy apology considering the mess it made. I feel like the cookies are just another way for Willow to not deal with the true issue. Vampires can eat food, it just doesn't give them the substance to survive. That is what blood does for them.

S4 had some warts, but it continued to evolve every character (except those that were gone) in very good ways. S5 remains my overall favorite, but you aren't commenting yet, so I await your seeing them. That said, S4 has some of the most powerful episodes in the entire series, and you'll likely figure out which ones when you get to them. Thanks for the reactions.

S4 is like S1 and another season to come in that it's uneven as a whole, but has some of the best episodes of the series (and one that's often lauded as one of the best hours of television ever).
@williambowman23269 күн бұрын
Transitions are mostly bumpy and uneven. Like the characters transition into new life roles , the core of the last 2 years has changed. No more Cordelia, Angel, and now Oz. Spike is now in the credits, Anya is around more, the library is gone… the storytelling has always attempted to explain changes semi realistically and properly. With all of the new characters, new roles for the Scoobys, and locations… by the set up it has to say goodbye and hello. That type of set up will most always make things uneven. It always seems longer to drive to a new place and be watching for turns and any problems. The drive back or next trip seems faster. Our minds are more comfortable. That’s part of the Season. We had comfort with the library, Sunnydale High and the core group. This season has the anxiety of newness and exploration.

This episode always upset me with how much they complain about Willow being sad over Oz. It wasn't that long ago he left and they were together quite awhile, as well as him being her first love. Buffy was allowed more time to get over Parker and that was just a one night stand. It always seemed unfair and hypocritical to me.

More than that. A detail will wash and shampoo the carpet, clean the grime out of all the cup holders and trays, clean the foot pedals, etc. etc. It's a lot of labor.
