Peugeot 406 HDI's were most probably the best car they have ever produced, Nice looking even today, Reliable and stood up to rust and rot well for their era!

A favorite for the mini cab driver back in their day. Many clocked more than 4 hundred thousand.

These were cracking cars - hugely comfy, economical & the hdi's were good motors.

Put 450k - miles, not km - on the same engine in a Dispatch, motor never whinged once, just routine servicing. 406 I had back in the day was the only car the Mother-In-Law ever got into & said "Blimey J, this is a very comfortable car.,." High praise indeed from the Old Battleaxe.

My co-worker has one of these with 350,000km on it, and I drive a 207 diesel with 320,000km on it, you gotta give it to Peugeot they know how to make a diesel engine that lasts.

They certainly did not so convinced on the modern ones tho 🤔

First time of owning a psa vehicle I got a dispatch van 1.6hdi decent engine and easy to work on But. The Peugeot 1.2 petrol engine in the new cars are shocking wet belt! And makes it worst the oil for them are on major back order at the psa factory so we can't sell the correct oil just to do the oil and filter changes 🫣

Fascinating video. Got one of these in a 306 GLX Estate on a V plate, it's done 187k miles so just about run in now. It doesn't use oil, is on the original turbo and clutch, and goes like the clappers. I paid £350 for the car seven years ago. I didn't have the service history so had a belt fitted at the initial service that turned out wasn't really needed. 50k miles (and 7 years) later it's really due another one. 😞

I fellout oflove with Peugeot /Citroen when they started with all the emissions & computer rubbish - no need the old 1.9 diesel with 200,000 miles was still giving 55 mpg & burnt NO oil I had loads of 1.9 Diesels - loved it and very reliable

Great engines , known as the million mile motor , had one that did 220,000 miles on basic servicing. Another car worth considering was the last of the Citroen Xantias 2.0hdi. They put all the kit on them , no Dpf and all the problems were sorted .....then they discontinued them and introduced the C5 ....... My Xsara Estate 90 bhp would regularly do over 70 mpg on the cruise down south on the motorway. Invariably on a friday afternoon it would be chocka so i would tuck in behind a truck and chill out with Steve Wright (RIP) for company for the long trip back down south.

I used to own a petrol 405 STI, probably the best driver’s car I’ve ever owned. Sadly French electrics and repeated clutch failures due to plastic clips on the pedal eventually saw it moved on, to make way for a reliable but boring Volkswagen Golf Mk3

Interesting how you time up a direct injection fuel pump 😂😂😂😂
@bazmeredith3 ай бұрын
You don't need to like I said In the video, it just makes it easier to check
@johnclarke65423 ай бұрын
There's nothing to check on that diesel pump ,it only makes pressure, the fuel timing is done by the ECU using the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft sensor, not sure which or if both are used on that engine to determine the injectorn signal
