Love your honest reviews on the knives. The one that keeps going back in my pocket EDC is the speed safe by Kershaw. Starting to go back to old school I always carry more than one knife. Either my buck 110 or 112 from the early 70s. Starting to get into the opinel knives lately. Gives me a sense of better times in this crazy world. Stay safe my friend.

I just got my second Terminus XR delivered last week! Luckily both of mine are the updated versions! The size is perfect for me since I work in a government facility that restricts blade length to under 3". At first mine were both gritty and definitely not the smoothest action. A good cleaning, lube, and break-in and this SOG is one of my favorite fidgety knives! The reduced bannering and tacticoolness on this and some of the newer SOGs make it look more like a knife one would find at a legit knife vender rather than off a peg at Home Depot or Dick's. I really do love this knife!

Excellent review as always, GT! I have the SOG Terminus XR with Cryo D2 and Olive Drab G10, and it too, seems to have fixed the 2 "issues" you mentioned in the original version, i.e., the flipper jimping, and the pocket clip style. One thing that the XR version may have over the LTE version, is that the milled out SS liners under the G10 are smooth and flush with the G20, making for absolutely zero hot spots or rough edges. A very ergonomic and comfortable knife indeed, and of course, quite sharp out-of-box! Thanks again!

Agreed, I have all 3 versions (G10/steel, CF/steel, CF/CF) and that G10 and steel one is smoothest, and the CF creates sharp hotspots, needs to be taken down with some sandpaper to the corners

The main problem with the pocket clip was that there is a gap between the clip and butt of the knife . On some of my pants the pocket folds up in between the clip and butt of the knife making it hard to take out of the pocket. The carbon fiber handle should not have the cut outs it would feel way better! With that .It is a fidget master and for the price with S35vn steel it gets some pocket time .

Exactly. I just left a comment about this. It made me so mad it ruined the entire knife. I had the cheaper D2 version but as cutting goes the knife was awesome and the way it fit into the hand was great. But I could not get over the way it stuck on my jeans every time I went to go pull it out. I would have to use two hands to get it out of my pocket. The funny thing is I bought it off my buddy and one day he seen me taking it out of my pocket and he was like "yeah man I kept having to do that too and I know it sucks". And I told him yeah that it's a great knife but I hate this with the pocket clip. Ended up selling it to a guy at work for 15 bucks.

I think the noise from the action is really prominent because of the carbon fiber liners. The versions with steel liners don't make nearly as much noise. My buddy has the terminus xr and the LTE version, he thinks the carbon fiber liners resonate and amplify the noise of the bearings.

The Sog Pillar would be perfect if those handle scales were beefier to fill up your hand more. They should come out with a Pillar XL too! Meaning a all around BIGGER Knife. 7" blade. Doesn't have to be S35VN steel, it could be AUS10A or 52100 would be good.

SOG has been coming on strong! As I watch the 2022 new knives roll out I have a few of the new SOG’s on my watch list. My older terminus needed my bench work time to tune it , sanding rough edges, tweaking the clip. I have a flash also from last year and it’s funny but my only complaint is the pocket clip it carries so deep that I have to put a lanyard (dont like them) so I can pull out the flash without excessive digging. So SOG, do you actually test your clips? The fixed blade SOGs will be my next buy, until SOG can put a useable pocket clip, at least something that my average in every way pockets and hands can enjoy. One day SOG could be my go to EDC.

I have been carrying the SOG Terminus XR for nearly 2 years now. D2 and OG green G10 scales. It still says SOG on the blade as opposed to Studies and Observations Group. They had dialed down the gimping on this particular one, but still the loud pocket clip. (I don't mind it) Apart from a break-in period of several days, it has worked flawlessly, and I have no problem in recommending this knife as an outstanding EDC item.

The problem with the xle is that it’s literally twice the price…wtf…. It was supposed to be a budget knife… the changes weren’t that dramatic! Really 10 seconds on a high grit grinder wheel and a clip swap warranted a double the price markup…Nah ain’t sitting right!

All three came with very poor actions out-of-the-box, needed to be broken in. Also my LTE in rose gold has the updated lettering on the blade but not my carbon one, that was interesting don't know why.

The pivots were very noisy out of the box, but I’m not sure if that is the bearings or the XR bar traveling through a track in the blade. In either case, one drop of dry chain lube on each side of the pivot quieted things down nicely!

Some companies listen to users/fans, and other companies don't - like Samsung, or they do listen, but they do something completely different, like apple - taking away features, restrict self-rpair or put instane pricetags on their products. But it's really nice when a company wants to sell you exactly what you need.

Thanks Aaron. Great review. I have a recommendation for a future vid. Just picked up my new favorite EDC. Great knife for $60-70 bucks. Civivi Elementum Button lock. Similar size/weight of the cold steel airlite, but much slicier. 14c28n steel, awesome lock mechanism. Micarta. Yeah, but Chinese mfg....but I love it!

The flipper doesn't bother me but agree I didn't like that original clip either. I contacted them and they sent me the new clip and I installed on mine, so happy now.

I love the Terminus platform. The $50 D2 and $85 original S35VN versions are probably the best bang for your buck crossbar lock style knives out there. But if I’m going to drop in the $150 range on a crossbar locking knife I’m going with the Hogue Deka over the LTE Terminus. 20CV steel, better factory edge, better fit and finish, better looking (in my opinion) and it’s American made. Or one of their new Sig models if you want a beefier work style knife. They’re the most underrated maker right now. American made but they keep the price more reasonable for the materials than Benchmade or Spyderco do.

Just got the XR s35vn version and it does have the new pocket clip/softened jimping. The only difference I can tell between mine and the LTE is the XR s35vn has stainless steel liners under the carbon fiber, so it's a little heavier. Otherwise, it's the same blade, essentially.

Personally I hate that tiny pocket clip, makes it look cheap as he'll to me, one of the reasons I wanted the knife was because of that original letter cutout deep carry,short pocket clip like the bugout 535, I was very displeased when my knife came with that clip

I just picked one of these up in the D2 version with G-10 scales and can confirm that they have updated the design to tone down the jimping on the flipper as well as changing out the pocket clip for one that is much slimmer and does not have the letter cut-outs. Thanks for the great review!

I don't know if anybody else experienced it but when I have this knife the way the pocket clip rides up and flips over into the frame with a knife on the back of it kept causing it to get stuck in my jeans. Every single time I went to pull the knife out I would have to pull tension out on the clip and then pull it out. It's like they didn't even try the knife out before they put it into production. I don't know if anybody else experienced it but I did every single time I went to use the knife. And my buddy who I bought it off of had the same problem also and hated it so much he saw me the knife for $20 which I kept the knife for a while but then I started to hate it and then I sold it.

I just picked up one of these and I love I can't imagine paying twice as much for a Benchmade, and the action is so much easier than any Spyderco

I have the older version of this knife, the Terminus XR. I really want to like this knife but I am struggling. First the good news. This is the second knife I have. The first one had some issues and, to SOG's credit, they replaced the knife with no questions. SOG gets big kudos for customer support. That was impressive. Unfortunately, I am still not happy with the action on this knife. It is better than the first one but still lacking, in my opinion. In your video, it seems you can flick the knife very easily with the thumb studs. I cannot do that as easily as the way yours appears to be in the video. I was going to disassemble the knife and see if the action can be improved but the pivot screws are immovable. I have destroyed numerous Torx drivers trying to take it apart. Your new knife looks like the knife I want, but I don't think I will spend money for another one. Thanks for the review.

G'day Aaron, dont ya wish more companies would listen ........and act. Surely its a win, win. Nice looker this one, maybe a black clip, but its still quite low key as is. Probably my favorite blade shape and steel to use and the thumb studs are out of the cutting/sharpening path too, take note Cold Steel. Cheers Duke. P.S. lov'n LAPG's Atlas trousers and shorts. Shipping is a bit of killer here, but the exchange rate aint too bad at the moment, so they still come in around the same price or cheaper than the main competitors.

I've never used a sog knife, this doesn't look bad at all but at 140 I would be more likely to buy a Hogue deka. I think that would have been a great comparison or competitive option.

Got a g2 version with the old clip. Everything feels rough about it. Then lock especially. On the plus side it was 20 bucks from a reputable company on clearance. I have to take it apart, clean and maybe polish the lock.

I tried, and wanted to love the xr... The lock was not consistent for me. The lever/switch kept getting looser and blade play increased with nothing more than fidgeting with it for a week.

Since the SOG Pillar was released, they seem to be intent on listening to customer feedback, but putting out a few REALLY high quality blades, alongside their more budget friendly selections. After their "golden age", back in the 80s, their quality really started to be an issue. But, they're making a comeback.

Hi could you please🙏🏽 ask S.O.G to make a 3.5" terminus xr version. The regular one. I've bought bout 10 of them now since I just bought the walnut LTE one recently. I'd buy another 20 more if they made a large 3.5" no bigger please. Maybe they will listen to you. I've asked alot to them already lol.

I’ve had my eye on this knife for a while…I’m ready to pull the trigger and get one. My last SOG knife was the Aegis and it’s a great assisted opening knife. Would love to see an Aegis come out with an XR action.

My father has a tanto aegis in his EDC rotation, it's the only assisted folder I actually like. I saw the terminus xr in s35vn on sale for 65 bucks at knifecenter so I decided to pick one up. I am thoroughly impressed with it. I haven't had an issue with the big SOG-branded pocket clip getting snagged on the seam of my pockets and the jimping on the flipper & spine isn't nearly as aggressive as the first run of the terminus in D2. Not sure if I got lucky on that or if they made some minor changes in production. It's nice to see that SOG is moving in the right direction with design and materials choice.

Oh, I just checked blade hq and there is an aegis with xr lock. It's still assisted (which I'd rather not have in all honesty) but they have updated the aesthetics quite a bit and changed the blade to D2.

Does the XR lock on the Terminus LTE rattle at all? I've heard others complain that, on some SOG knives, the mechanism rattles when you shake it. I'm not talking about the ball bearings, I'm talking about the pull triggers.

I like SOG and love their recent direction, but I'll never buy a SOG knife again. Not because SOG isn't a good company, but because they were recently bought out by GSM Outdoors, a huge conglomerate of hundreds of companies. Support is virtually non-existant, and they actually told me over the phone (when I finally got through) that if you buy a SOG knife from a 3rd party retailer, they wouldn't service it. SOG = Good, GSM Outdoors = BAD, result = knives I'll never buy. Buyer beware ;)

I have this knife and it is trash. The pocket clip looks like a good idea but it wiggles. Matter how tight it is it just moves. And both the omega springs in mine broke...and it's been frustrating trying to contact SOG for replacements. The worst of all is that the blade runs into the backspacer when you close it...nothing like a self dulling knife.

Solid review. I also watched your review of the previous generation Terminus. Apart from the clip & flip switch/flipper/thumb ramp, any thoughts on the usability, ergonomics, etc between the two? I can get a previous generation Terminus (brand new, all black) for about USD55, in my area. What are your thoughts?

I purchase quite a bit of cutlery. Over the years, I've acquired several high end production folders with flippers online. I am not at all a fan of a flipper on a folder. In fact, a flipper is a deal breaker to me now. ... SOG designs have never really excited me. I believe the only SOG I ever owned was a Pentagon I bought from Jeff Loffer at a gun show in Puyallup, WA about 1982. Jeff's Cutlery Shoppe made a very nice kydex sheath for it at the time. That may also have been my first kydex sheath.

Flipper on an axis style knife is entirely unnecessary and annoying. SOG needs to learn from Benchmade on how to make CF scales in one piece.

They could of got rid of the flipper, you don't need it due to the XR lock and thumb studs and it has a decent finger guard without it. The thumb studs are useless too, they get in the way for sharpening.

"They could have got rid of the flipper" .."the thumbstuds are useless to,they get in the way sharpening" Your proposal to remove both deployment methods and just leave one (releasing the lock and wrist flicking it) is flat out stupid. Ah so because you can't sharpen your way out of a paperbag the thumbstuds are useless? Got it. Maybe you should write a letter to both Benchmade and Hogue (who both use a near identical lock to the XR) and tell them to remove all thumbstuds from their knives. 🤡🤡🤡

I really like this thing, but it just makes me a bit sad that they are made in china for the price. Kershaw has stuff around the same pricepoint that is American made. They're just all liner locks, unfortunately, which is what I am trying to get away from.

They made it the way they did because the material is stronger layered, than it would be if it were one solid piece, at the same thickness.

I really want to like this knife but that size is just ugh. 3.5 minimum please. This trend of smaller knives is just hammering so so many designs for me. A Rat One sized brother is needed.

Their springs in their take of the AXIS lock are CRAP they break so easily, I bought a couple of knives with that lock and both broke. Invest your money in another brand.

I had TWO sets of omega springs break on my G10 version - each set lasted about 30 days. I called SOG after the second set broke and demanded a refund. They refused because the knife was outside of the return period. They explained that they had a problem with some metallurgic process (don’t remember the specifics) in a batch of springs -- and that they believed they had cleared out the bad ones and offered to send me a third set. I was REALLY angry at this point but agreed to take the replacement springs because I otherwise really liked the knife. It’s been about a year and a half since that time and the 3rd set of springs not only work flawlessly, they also have a lighter action than the first two sets. I then bought the S35VN version (about a year ago), and have had no problems with those springs either.

@@brauss878 Two days after I wrote that post, one of my omega springs broke. I contacted SOG to request replacements, and they said they don't do that anymore. I have to send my knife in to be repaired. Ugh.

Well everywhere the LTE version is $140, then the standard version is about $85, and then the D2 version is about $55. It’s rad LAPG is hooking the GT family up with 10% any version. And that’s the whole thing is that there are three price points depending on what you’re into and what constitutes value to you. Some people want just basic and don’t mind aesthetics, some people really like the premium stuff. Hence why there is a Honda accord an Acura LS line. Basically the same car just the fit and finish and aesthetics and some features are different. I'll definitely get what you're saying because I get tired of it on KZfaq videos also. But most of the time the content creator so will not alter anything unless they get a lot of negative comments of the same type. I don't like plugs either in videos so I usually just fast forward.

I know this is nitpicking, but SOG is pronounced S...O...G... each letter is pronounced and not run together as "sog". A small thing maybe, but l know how it feels if people continually mispronounce your name or your city.

They kinda did it to themselves. It’s very common to pronounce acronyms as words.
