The Archer is my favourite OD pedal. But which one is best?

I mean Jeff Beck wouldn't dick about with something that wasn't top notch.
But the Ikon is supposed to be gainier and more compressed than the silver.
Thats not what I hear.
What about you?
Probably should have trimmed my head pubes before filming this.
Although I'm kinda digging my unibrow.

Yeah I got this one wrong. I'm blaming my original source material for misleading me into thinking the opposite was true of these pedals. But isn't it fun changing your mind about something?

If they are both buffered, then the one in front is affecting the natural sound of the pedal it is going in to, try swapping them around and try again ?

I think you are spot on. It's exactly what I'm hearing as well. Silver is darker and more compressed. I generally gravitate toward that kind of tone. But the ikon sounds great as well. I'd want to really play with the settings of each pedal, however.

from the J Rockett website: "Unlike the Archer the iKon has slightly less gain and more warmth". So that's in line with your experience, yeah? The Archer is more compressed, so more heavily clipped...

My understanding from reading around was the opposite to that. But the reality checks out. Not uncommon for my understanding of things to differ from reality 🤣

The iKon will cut through the mix more in a band situation. They are both great pedals (I have both too). The iKon is def more open and more like the orig Klon. To me, the iKon is more high fidelity.

Effectively your video brings another sonic quality out🤔IMHO the Ikon sounds more defined in the notes and chords and a bit brighter and tighter than the Silver which had at some point a sort of a fuzzy sound! Very interesting man! I tried both of them in my local guitar shop. The Ikon was warmer sounding, but the silver one had a bit more sizzle to it and more what I was looking for. The Ikon is supposedly the closest of the two to the Klon, yet I went home with the silver one, which really is solid proof that there is no such thing as the holy grail of tone. The Klon may be a great pedal that many aspire to imitate, but the hype of it being this magic mojo overdrive is a load of crap and it's sound is as subjective as any other pedal. Listen with your ears and trust them to tell you what pedal you like best. Because if the Ikon is supposedly closer to the "real thing", then I can safely say I'm not missing out on much. Although with that said I would try a Klon if given the opportunity, but I'm not spending 6 grand on it.
