I feel like we don't get movies this generic anymore, the movie industry is healing

The good thing about the movie is that it feels like a movie

My brother is a professional circus artist. Apparently sometimes artists will dislocate their arm during a show, put it back in place and keep performing. So yeah, the arm would be immediately usable, just very uncomfortable.

I think the term “mid” is overused/misused, but I really feel this movie is the embodiment of mid. Not terrible, but not that good. There were some parts I thought were neat, but it overall just felt so bland, generic, and boring. But hey, got to hear Adam Driver screaming and shouting, so that was at least entertaining

The worst thing I ever did for my general movie viewing experience was start looking at movies critically.

The main thing I was disappointed with was how the dinosaurs looked. Were at the point where we understand most dinosaurs had feathers especially raptors, but instead of making somewhat interesting looking dinosaurs they just went with bland, skinny, ugly monsters

65 milliom years ago, another planet had a US-style health care system. And here I was thinking this was going to be a dinosaur version of Planet of the Apes.

Natural "tar pit" (not really tar but actually asphalt), like the one in La Brea, are not that hot on the surface. Animal that falls in die from being stuck, not burn.

They knew what their audience wanted! We just wanted Adam Driver being sexy. Was it lacking plot? Sure. But I’ll be darned if he didn’t look GOOD

Adam Driver is a sweaty, huffing, puffing dino dad for 90 minutes, and it's the best thing I've seen all year.

Based on Amanda's description, the plot sounds like a screenwriter learning their craft. They understand beats, the call back, etc, but thr teacher would say all the injuries don't seem to affect their bodies. That being said, now I want to see it 🎉

So this is “Before Earth”. Same plot as “After Earth” except in past instead of future

I went into 65 not knowing literally anything about it and… I liked it! I personally am a HUGE sucker for the “disgruntled father figure and adopted daughter figure” trope, and this fit that bill. Plus there were dinosaurs. But that’s just me 🤷🏼‍♀️ Edit: I already knew how to do the hand whistle thing (learned it as a kid) and I was thrilled to see it in a movie. I am but a simple person with a simple checklist to be thrilled with movies.

16:31 one of my friends has EDS and relocated her arm like it was nothing and moved on, so it is possible. My guess for the movie is that adrenaline allowed him to just shoot.

It feels like they were trying to capture the energy of The Last of Us, but with dinosaurs 😂

A lot of points in this movie made me say "Yeah okay, sure. Whatever" The meteor made me laugh when I realized what it was

with just a really good rewrite of the script, this could’ve been the greatest, campiest masterpiece to exist

I’ve literally heard nothing of this movie until now😅 Without knowing anything except it was “okay,” I will say sometimes you just want to be entertained by a movie, you just want 2 hours of escapism without really any wild downs or ups. I have a feeling this is one of those that fits that brief and maybe why people likes it but weren’t wowed by it. 🤷‍♀️ it’s like the concept of a comfort show you watch because you know the plot beats but rolled into a movie you haven’t seen yet.

My roommate summed it up perfectly: you’re going for Adam Driver and I’m going for dinosaurs…what else is there? Edit: it was the breathing for me lol

That last dinosaur was the one he shot in the cave and the eye injury was suppose to be the giveaway. We were suppose to be like “oh damn, the Dino is back for revenge” but it just didn’t hit because it didn’t really matter. Movie was fun to laugh at with friends.

Okay to answer the dislocated arm question. The answer is yes you can pop it back in and use it again! This is coming from a 20 something woman. It only happened to me once and happened for like 30 seconds. It was a bit sore for a few moments but that was it.

I feel like they made the two main characters be unable to understand each other so there would be less dialog and therefore the studio can save money on translation and dubbing for overseas distribution. Action movies make a lot of their profit in markets like China nowadays

My parents loved this movie when we went to see it, I have no clue why. It was fine, the girl was good for how young I think she is. It was a movie I'd watch again for background noise but it wasnt amazing

I felt bad ripping into it because it def gave the vibes of someone’s art project (as opposed to a calculated business decision like each Marvel movie)… but it def could’ve been better.

Even after this I told my husband we should go see this. I think that this sounds great because they don't make just... Man fights dinosaurs for 90 movies much anymore. It's not going to be my favorite movie. But I'll pay $6 at the cheap theater and eat some $3 popcorn

The tiny little dinosaurs are probably Velociraptors. It's confusing as in Jurassic park they call the larger dinosaurs Velociraptors but they are probably actually Utahraptor misnamed to sound scarier.

It sounds like to me the "escaping literally as the asteroid hits because tension" and the "Lying about family being alive to keep this girl going" bits clash, mostly because the reveal is literally at the end. You're right in assuming that he is going to not escape with her, thats the set up of having him try to self end, onces shes in the pod the job is complete, but the movie has a literal cataclysm and 2 goddamn T Rexs to force into the end. Having her learn earlier would give a moment where he has to convince her that she still has a life to lead, and then later when hes trying to stay because he has nothing left, she can help him, paying off both the family loss themes as well as the mentorship themes. At that point I would have just kept the T Rexes. Like the asteroid could still be coming as like a timer, but more so as a general force of doom and guarantee that neither of them can live on the planet, not so much a 'this buildings about to blow' trope.

I like the idea that Adam Driver is average height to slightly shorter than average for the humanoids from that planet.

So the arm thing. I think that’s actually an action trope. I can recall in Lethal Weapon the “fix dislocated arm then use it violently” thing happened across several of the movies.

It sounds like it would’ve been more poetic if Mills died in the end to save Koa (sorry if I’m spelling this wrong). His whole mission was to save his own child, but he failed (in his mind it seems). However she’s his redemption, a second chance to save someone.

i ADORE “past but also futuristic technology” aesthetic, especially in space tec., and it’s awesome to see another person who appreciates and takes note of that too! also well done on another great video 🎉🌻💕

I saw this movie in the theater with my family. It was decent- very much one of those ok popcorn movies that are enjoyable but you cant think about it too deeply or it starts to fall apart. I felt like it played a LOT like 'Logan', with Hugh Jackman and the little girl. VERY similar plot points to each other: the language barrier, pseudo-father/daughter relationship building, must-get-from-pointA-to-pointB-while-being-in-danger, etc.

I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome - we dislocate joints dozens of times a day and we often have to just keep going with our day, but yeah- it's VERY painful.

This is my first time hearing about this film, and I am a chronically online millennial who loves Adam Driver. Their marketing team definitely dropped the ball on this one

The movie was … fine. I think you need the scene with the wife and daughter because it is the motivating factor, but it could be moved to after the crash as a flashback !? Also, I think there was a scene when the laser gun didn’t fire because it was out of charge and Mills had to wait before he could shoot again.

I saw this movie, and it just was okay. I didn’t understand the beach scene and it was very rushed to get through. I do think exposing story through the tapes would’ve been an amazing idea. Or just memories or something along those lines.

Re: dislocating an arm, I have a rare genetic disease called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. One of the symptoms is that I am constantly (and I mean *constantly*) dislocating my joints, in particular (for me, it depends on the person who has EDS) my knee and ankle joints. The first time it happened, it was the worst pain I had ever felt in my entire life, including breaking multiple bones at the same time and endometriosis combined. Last night I dislocated my knee in my sleep, as I often do, and although it was still amongst the top 5 worst pain I unfortunately encounter regularly, you kinda get... used to it, as haunting as that seems. The pain is unbearable for the few moments it takes to put the joint back in place (which btw if you know what you're doing, it is realistic to put it back in less than a minute, though ouch) and after that you have a lingering pain in the joint and a certain instability for a couple of days (although that might come from having EDS itself). For me, after I dislocate my knee for ex, I'll put on a special cast/sock-thing that covers my knee and has thin metal rods sewn into it to keep the joint in place. I secure it with the velcro on it and I keep it on for 12-36h depending on how much I hurt and how unstable the joint feels. But I can walk on it, even if it's really not fun, and if I have to, I can probably run for a bit. So I'll say that for a normal, regular dude who isn't used to dislocating a joint, what Adam does seems a bit easy. But if he's someone who has experience dislocating his shoulder and putting it back in place, yeah I think he could shoulder (ha) the pain in a life-or-death situation. It would def NOT be fun and IMO increase the risk of the joint dislocating more in the future if you don't give your tendons and ligaments time to heal and strengthen back up, but again, life-or-death situation. Also if like me you have a very high pain tolerance, that would make it easier to bear I guess.

just going from the clips you showed, those little dinosaurs are probably velociraptors, which are about the size of a large chicken. Jurassic Park had some incredibly good dinosaurs in it but it also convinced a whole generation of kids to picture deinonychus when they hear the name velociraptor.

hahha so I've dislocated my shoulder like 6 times.. the first time was a fall, and it took me going to the hospital and some painkillers and then they just kinda booped it back into place. I think it's theoretically possible for that to happen, where once they get his arm back in place, he's able to functionally go back to doing what he's doing, but he would be in excruciating pain at that point if it was his first dislocation in that shoulder. maybe adrenaline and a survival instinct would also theoretically make sense for him not just sitting on the ground and hating his life and screaming. IDK lolol since I've had more dislocations since then, I've noticed that I can technically move my arm while it's dislocated, but just the shoulder mobility part of it is not there. I've popped my own shoulder back in more times than I've wanted to :( That being said, if canonically, he's dislocated that shoulder before, it would make sense to me that they could just pop it back in and he'd go about his time, cause that's how my experience has been. Just pop it back in, be pissed about the level 4 pain, and go about my life

i havent finished the video yet, but when i ended up going to see it, i was late going in so i missed the almost the entire portion before the title screen, except directly after they crashed already. from the sounds of it though, it made the experience better

when i say this was one of my favorite movies of all time, like very high up there, i am not joking. it was fantastic, i am over the moon that it exists and i love it

I got a few ads about 65, it seemed interesting enough but I forgot when it was coming out (To be fair I don't keep up with movies anyways) so I didn't know it was out now. Glad to have caught your review, maybe some day in the future I'll watch it just to get a feel of that beginning/intro portion. it depends on the type of dislocation and how... familiar you are with it, i've seen mountian bikers (who get dislocations a lot because of the shock on their shoulders) have a dislocation, pop it in, and keep on riding.

This is a movie that you watch with your parents on a random Thursday night in between sport seasons.

my mom used to dislocate her shoulder p often back in high school while swimming the butterfly and she would just pop it back into place herself. I'm sure it hurt but she was so used to it that it wasn't a big deal.

I’ve watched my sister dislocate her shoulder during a roller derby game, pop it back on the side of the track, and then keep playing.

So glad I went to see Cocaine Bear instead of this.

I've personally seen people dislocate an arm and go back to whatever they were doing as soon as it's back, I've also seen where they have like a sling for weeks... I think it depends on what exactly happens, like how far out it goes or what direction, that kinda thing.

Personally I really enjoyed this movie. My two biggest gripes were that 1. it felt like a giant escort mission and 2. basically 3/4 of the dinosaur encounters were because they sat/stood around gawking instead of getting the hell out of dodge.

The longer it's dislocated the worse the recovery. It's painful af to fix immediately but better than just leaving it

I've dislocated my arm recently (and get frequent dislocations because I have Ehlers-Danlos) and I don't think it's that unrealistic to pop it back in and start shooting. I wouldn't advise doing that because it will definitely take much longer to heal properly but I think the adrenaline in that situation would make it possible. My most recent shoulder dislocation, I popped it back in immediately, made a call to my orthopedic, and continued working my office job.

You can pop a shoulder back in place right after yes. I have EDS, and am scheduling my 5th shoulder surgery next week. He would have pain still, but the arm would be functioning if that makes sense

My dad has dislocated both of his shoulders, one of them twice (🤢). It depends on how severely you dislocated it - one of his is still somewhat dislocated and it functions mostly fine. The muscles allow for the movement still if they’re strong enough and if it’s not fully dislocated, which on AD they would be. It’s just super painful at first so he’d be pushing through it.

If you don't wanna keep going back to your computer to keep the visual up go to your settings to change to sleep mode to off then turn it back to whatever you have after filming. This does mean remembering that you did that everytime you film though which is hard. (Note I'm autistic and kinda see that my comment may be seen as rude but this 100% comes from me wanting to help but understands why you might not do it. I also don't have a Mac so I don't know if you're settings have that too sorry)

I'm actually very disappointed that this film doesn't portray the true might of the Asteroid that killed the Dinosaurs. It was actually too big to be damaged by Earth's Atmosphere, it punched a whole into the Earth's Crust, it just basically pushed the Atmosphere out of it's way which created even more chaos (once it connected the Atmosphere rushed to fill in that vakuum), there's no way in hell anything survived that close to it.

I actually missed the whole thing about Adam being an alien and just wondered why he did not realize he was looking at dinosaurs.
