That is well put. I was 18 at that time and it sent a shiver down my spine too and i share your same sentiments that it greatly disturbed me. I had friends at the match but i was not there. I had not even heard of the concept that crowds could even have this sort of crushing risk. It just never occurred to me, but after this i very consciously avoided crowded places. However, there was one time i went to a club in Birmingham. It was The Dome. When we were going in, it was not too busy, but as the night drew on, it got absolutely packed. I knew it was unusually tight in there. When we were trying to get out, there were a few nervous people. I remember a short girl in front of me who was worried. I tried to create a little bit of space for her and gave her some assurances that I'd look after her. Then a while later there was a crowd crush in a club in my home town. To this day i avoid crowds.

Things were changed drastically after Valley Parade and Hillsborough so stadium gates are now either locked with electronic locks that can be released remotely or left unlocked during the game. Of course perimeter fencing was done away with after the Taylor Report which resolved that issue immediately

Totally agree. Proper football fans will mourn but support each other through tragedies. We have Hillsborough, Man Utd have Munich. Even though there's immense rivalry there has to be respect in equal measure.

I feel like you don’t need to be a football fan for this tragedy to deeply affect you. This has made me shed tears, I hope the Liverpool fans understand how much of a hero they are, I fear if it weren’t for them dragging people to safety and carrying them then a lot more lives would have been lost. It should never have happened. Everyone says 97 victims but unfortunately the number of victims is truly unknown and is much higher when you consider family members, those who were injured but survived, those who witnesses or just attended and those who couldn’t take it anymore and ended it. It goes on and on, some children never even got the chance the know their parent 💔

If you're looking for a scrap of positivity then at least you can look at football now and know that those poor people didn't die for nothing. We learned a lot of lessons from it that means that we can all go to football matches knowing we will make it home again. sadly 96 didn't make it home

I'm a Liverpool supporter and as a club we've seen tragedy but so too have other clubs...what bonds us together is the fact that we love the game, all of us. I don't care if someone supports some 'rival' team, we all love the game and let that be, the be all and end all. Football is a force for good...not division

In the first world war, after folk began to realise the horror of it all, there was a song called "Take me back to dear old blighty." (back to dear old Britain) In which the lyrics say about going home, "Liverpool, Leeds or Birmingham, I just don't care!" What's my point? It's this. The fences at Hillsborough and other grounds at the time were put up to stop people getting on the pitch and causing trouble , the side fences to stop rival fans fighting. The post war generations forgot in many cases that people died so they could enjoy life, travel, going to football etc. British soldiers, nurses and allies suffered, so that children and future generations wouldn't have to. Post war, going to a football match was a peace time activity, and rival fans could mix without fighting. (which they did in big numbers!) The men and women coming back from war were just happy to be away from the vile horror, it didn't really matter which city or town you came back to at first, it was home. So everyone who has picked a fight with a rival fan is in part responsible for what happened at Hillsborough and Heysel. Of course the police and grounds were inadequate, and disgusting lies were told, but fans fighting fans and making non- fans nervous, disrespects previous generations without whom we would be trying to survive Putin, rather than make jokes about Boris!

I've never heard any team mate of Bruce say that they believe the allegations. Many still do guest speaking with him. David Hodgeson recently said in an interview that it was not true and Bruce wouldn't have thrown games in a million years. Tells you all you need to know when all his team mates stood by him.

He actually did attend some funerals along with other players kenny dalglish and his wife went to every one however this took a massive toll on kennys mental health (as u can imagine) but to say Bruce didn't attend any funerals is wrong

I don’t know why people hate this legend. He could easily be the most successful goalie in English Football history. He made a mistake, maybe, but a few goalies can match his achievements and ability. By the way he just took the money but didn’t throw the games.

Shane Meneer yes I did. He was a good reader of the game and organised his defence well. Despite the sometimes over the top clowning, he’s easily in the same class as the Peter Schmiechels of the world. His trophy cabinet says it all. Maybe if Brucie were English he would have earned a wee bit more respect.
