This was my first go at a "continuous grain" table and bench. I went into it thinking it would be pretty straight forward, but this build presented a few challenges. Specifically, milling 12-foot long boards on my relatively short-winged jointer, managing a pretty serious panel glue-up (I did one seam at a time to keep the stress level down 😆), sorting out the temporary clamping block process (shellac makes a difference), and most of all having to muscle this 200+ lb beast around the shop after assembly! Overall I'm happy with the end result, but more importantly - the client is happy!
Tools and products used in this build:
Festool Domino - amzn.to/3nghbSi
Festool Track Saw - amzn.to/3nllonN
Festool RO Sander - amzn.to/3lxIRli

Fantastic work. I never saw the trick of using spray shellac prior to attaching the clamping blocks. Genius!

Great work brother. It’s amazing how accurate that Festool is with the miter cuts. One day I’d love to own the track saw and a domino.

Thanks! Yep - it's a big investment but I have no regrets. Would not have been able to get these results without them.

Great piece Ben. Neat trick with the spray shellac. Clean and simple lines, nothing wrong with that.

Great idea to manage the glue-ups; they sure can be stressful. The finish made the grain "POP"

Outstanding work, as per always in your workshop. A novice question: Is there no danger of sagging over time, in this kind of design, given that there are no rails?
@cleancutwoodworks
@cleancutwoodworks 6 ай бұрын
That’s a good question and it comes down to 3 factors: 1) Type of wood - white oak 2) Thickness -1 3/4” and 3) Length - 6’. We’re well within “that ain’t going anywhere” parameters here.

another silent movie. I hate those because a lot of us are visually impaired. We can still do woodwork, but we can't watch you build something without talking it does it's no good. 3:04

Have you ever had severe tear out of the surface grain when removing the glued on clamp blocks? That's what would worry me.

No issues when laying down that shellac barrier. Prevents the CA glue from getting too comfortable with the grain. 👍

Looks great brother! It still blows me away how well that works with the shellac. I could not do😂 Gave you a follow to help you get a little closer to 100k on here too!
