Also, EVERYTHING has a deeper explanation, it's just simpler and more to the point to state the main reason. Canadians learn french because they have a large population of french speakers nearby, Southerners learn Spanish for the same reason, as with Europeans, who are a quilt of tightly packed various cultures within walking distance of one another. You don't need to lay out a textbook to explain it.

I've seen a video today, where a dude at a american school asked teenagers what first comes to their mind if they think of Germany and most of them just said "Hitler". I think we all could educate ourselves more about other cultures

@@mitzy123 but 14.6 million Americans visit foreign countries every year, and 19 million are made by French people, but the US is extremely isolated from any Worthwild country’s other than Canada which still most Americans are far out of driving range so they don’t go there. French people can drive to Belgium in one day, it will take me several weeks to drive to Texas from here and I live on the West Coast. Plus each state has its own culture and each region of the US has its own culture. But seriously from Paris to Brussels it’s a little over three hours, for me to go see my family in California it takes me nearly 5 hours to get there, and I live in Las Vegas.

I am German and maybe I can explain it. In the first Moment Americans are very friendly and easy to get to know them. But it’s very difficult to get close with them and become real friends( friends who can talk about anything). Germans are very harsh in the first moment but if you get to know them you get a friend for a lifetime. I live in the US since 5 years and I wish Germans could be open like Americans in the first moment. And Americans to be a little bit more like Germans.

Logan Cabanas actually my grandmother is and lives in Germany and they don't go to the supermarket to buy a week's worth of food like here in America. Most people have small refrigerator's in their house and simply buy what they need from a market daily so they don't actually over eat like we do in America. Also, the US is a very diverse country compared to Germany. Germany has a very high percentage white population so their IQ's/education/intelligence would be higher on average but matching the white populations together the US and Germany are very similar in those regards. Different regions have drastically different people where Germany is very uniform in comparison.

It too far to walk anywhere and people live too far away from each other in suburbs to have public transportation or the cities are so small ( in population density) that there are only business buildings and entertainment in cities. What I think is unfair is most of those germans meet americans that are most likely on the world trip adventure of their lifetimes. Of course they are going to be overly excited and friendly.

I think that Americans don't see it because they're used to that level of cheerfulness. Smiling all the time because it's expected and because not doing so is almost rude. For someone who grew up somewhere else it feels very strange and you do need sometime to adjust. the first time I was in the US I found really creepy because it feels very insincere (which it mostly is) but as the woman says, that's their way to do it and maybe it's a good thing. who knows..

Its not anymore ("only" on third place) but the picture of a overweight fast Food (invented in USA) eating guy is still in the head of the people. 2. I have friends from Russia, The Philippines, South Korea, The UK, etc. I may be biased because I'm extremely interested in other cultures and histories of the world, but I feel most people I know wouldn't take issue with making friends with a foreigner.

That's interesting. I have found the U.S. public educational system to be very objective and does very little to support stereotypes, I suppose there were instances of bias influence, or covert stereotyping, but as a whole, very little... but, again, my micro experience might have been the exception to the rule. Frankly, I found the whole drug education thing to be a complete failure though. Not sure how it is around the country or in other coutries, but in my state, there is a 2 or 3 week drug education "thing" that they did when I was in 8th grade and then they did it when my oldest son was in 8th grade. Several of my friends found it inspiring and wanted to go out and try all the drugs they taught us about. I remember thinking back then, what a joke it was... this was around 1984, I believe. I really did not feel more compelled to do drugs myself, but I was a nerd and wanted to be liked, so I dabbled in drugs with the one's who seemed so inspired to do drugs, thanks to our educational system and pretended like I thought it was cool too.... so fast forward to around 2006 and my 8th grader comes home and announces to me that "they make it sound like drugs are fun". It just makes me wonder how many children in my state have felt this way over the decades of this "educational" effort. Frankly, I think there is more of a conspiracy to encourage drug use through suggestion. And the use of suggestion has been used for evil since time immemorial, it is not some new thing that people don't know about. It's something I've always wanted to do something about, but never have, beyond sharing my experience. After having learned more about the human psyche... AND the complete failure of everything they've tried to do regarding drug use, I am convinced that this drug education practice has got to end.

I know they're generalizing it to the U.S.A. which I'm from.. but then the first stereotype was that we don't think of anything outside our own country, just right after I was wondering which part of "America" they would speak about! My word! If you come to the U.S. there are different cultures everywhere and at least I'm fully aware different Americas. There's 3 German restaurants in my town, countless different Asian type restaurants, and even an Ethiopian one an hour away! Then to stereotype U.S. is nearly impossible as well. I'm "Native American" as they call it.. of the eastern Cherokee band mixed with a little Scottish. Then you have all these other cultural mixes. I eat one small meal a day, a home cooked if I can afford it. And as far as Germany is concerned the only stereotype I've heard is they have stricter laws and are generally more blunt than the U.S. general population. But then, many years ago when I went to high school I had a German exchange student friend who was very kind and open! She loved to laugh! So I hold no true bias. We're all different! I mean, I don't even fall into the category of "only friendly on the outside". When someone asks me how I'm doing, I tell the truth. And I only invite people over if I intend to let them in my home! Coming from the southeast also changes things, as we tend to be more genuine. None of that fake stuff! I hate fake kindness myself!!

+E_DUB Yeah I agree. The travel part was the only one that mildly bugged me too. Not only what you've already stated, but there are significant differences between the states as well as regions (NE, SE, W, NW, etc) of our nation too, so we're exposed to more cultures than you'd think. I know in PA, once I start hitting south of Virginia and west of Indiana there are a lot of differences between how the people talk, behave, eat, etc. Even the Western part of my state is almost alien in some ways to me. In fact I think Pittsburgh is where they start saying pop instead of soda.
