Brazil was the largest destination for African slaves in the Americas. In that period, approximately 4 million enslaved Africans were imported to Brazil. Many the Brazil's current Afro-Brazilian population reside in the state of Bahia, with a large presence in it's capital - Salvador.

Brazil is popular with African American men because the Brazilian population is not very Black at all. If the Brazilian population looked like Haiti well then Brazil would not be nearly as popular with African American men and yo know it.

@@TheYarbros You are spreading misinformation. Pardos (who are the same phenotype as Latinos in USA) are the majority in Salvador. Blacks are not the majority in Salvador. Latinos and Blacks are not lumped together in the same category in the USA so I do not know why you are trying to lump both groups together in Brazil. Pardos are not Black people. I am Pardo. I am not Black.

@@TheYarbros You are very much spreading misinformation. Blacks are not the majority in Salvador. Pardos are the majority in Salvador. You are incorrectly assuming that all Pardos have partial African lineage and that is simply not true. Pardos are very diverse. There are many Pardos who do not have any African lineage. Pardos are predominantly European in ancestry. Pardos are not Black people. I am Pardo. I am not Black.

@@BrazilianColombian 86% of Brazilians have Africa in their DNA according to a self survey of Brazilians by Edward Eric Tells (2004). 50% of ppl who reported as white on the census stated they had African ancestors. Brazil is black by this account and many others and Salvador is 82% Black by all accounts. So, no misinformation here. In fact there have been numerous policies to alter this fact over the years but it hasn't changed. Brazil is majority Black and beautiful.

I was in Bahia , the people were more mixed and I didn’t see them as black but a little black in them. The mixed race people of Brazil just like I’m Egypt and Hollywood are being accepted as the standard for the new blacks but they are not black but mixed race people.😮

My father's father stowed away on a cargo ship in Gibraltar to escape the war in Europe. The ship ended up in Brazil. My father's mother came with her widowed mother to escape poverty in Spain. My mother's parents came from Italy as immigrants to work on the coffee plantations. They met in Brazil and got married here. My mother and father were born in Brazil and I am a second generation immigrant. I find it funny how you Americans keep seeing the color of people's skin. I see the people of Salvador just like other people like me, who for one reason or another, lucky or unlucky, ended up here. And as the saying goes, "if life gives you lemons, make a lemonade", we try to make the best of what we have. And yes, I speak Spanish and Italian because of my grandparents, Portuguese because I live here, and English and French too.

The local Salvadorians in this video gave their opinions about race relations in Brazil not this American. You can choose to ignor it if you like but institutional racism is hurting, starving and killing the black and indigenous communities in Brazil...until people stand up and stop acting like everything is okay. It's not an American thing. It's a humanity thing...to make the world a better place.

Maybe the blackest city in Brazil, but less black than many other cities outside Africa. In the Caribbean countries for sure that there are cities with a higher percentage of black people (almost any Haitian or Jamaican city for example), and probably also in United States (Detroit for example is like 85% black - if I'm not wrong -).

@@beatrizcardoso2335 I was talking about PERCENTAGE, that is more representative, because a country with 1 M people where blacks are 95% of the population, is "more black" than other with 200 M people where 5% of the population is black, no matter if that 5% is a bigger number than the 95% of the smaller country. The thing is that, into their own context, the smaller country is more black than the bigger one. Therefore, like I said, 85% > 80%. 😉
