Florida Senator Rick Scott couldn’t contain his excitement when doubling down on his plan to raise taxes for most Americans if Republicans retake the Senate majority after this year’s midterm elections. In an interview with Laura Ingraham, Scott detailed that his plan would specifically go after Americans who don’t pay any income taxes, like the people who want “free government stuff”. "Republican Senator Rick Scott of Florida, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, doubled down on his pledge to raise most Americans’ taxes if the GOP retakes the Senate in this year’s midterms.
Scott gleefully justified his proposal to Laura Ingraham on Monday night.
Last month, he unveiled a plan that stipulating that, “All Americans should pay some income tax to have skin in the game, even if a small amount. Currently over half of Americans pay no income tax.”
When asked on Fox News if he wanted to raise taxes on most Americans last month, Scott straight up lied by saying his plan would not do that. He received no pushback from host Sean Hannity.
Appearing on The Ingraham Angle on Monday, Scott said that Americans “want free government stuff.”"

If I remember rightly the poverty level for a single person is something like 22,000 or 24,000 a year. I make 9,000 a year, so what does that make me, a non-existent nothing. Just saying LOL. And they still want to take a chunk of that. 🥴

Low-income Americans have been targeted particularly by Republicans for decades, and _still_ those same low-income Americans make up a significant percentage of the Republican voting bloc. The millions of primarily white, non-college, high school or lower education level demographic, the over 60, and the few thousand wealthiest citizens have been keeping the GOP viable since before Reagan. Whether they're voting against their own interests or not. Maybe there's something exclusive to a college education that should instead be moved into the High school curriculum lol that will instill a little more basic, fundamental common sense and critical thinking skills. You think? 😁

You can't afford food or rent because your in a low paying job(s), because your billionaire employer pays less to the people who are doing the work that they pay mostly to themselves. So, you apply for assistance. Then this clown comes around wanting to take away what money you do make. And now, you are even less able to pay the bills, and need even more assistance. The government Will end up spending more, from collecting the money then sending it back.

When Rick Scott was governor, he approved a state income tax (bad enough as Florida is known for not having one), which was the exact opposite of a progressive tax. The top income bracket paid no tax, and the less income you made the higher your percentage tax was, all the way to the bottom. So he has done this shit before. He also tried to do things like work requirements for food stamps and medicaid, drug tests for all aid even after marijuana was decriminalized, etc etc. Rick Scott has always been at war on the poor.

Think about this. If the poorest 47% of people in America were each forced to file and pay $10.00 in Federal taxes, how much would it cost taxpayers to process those returns? I'll bet it would cost at least $20.00 each, cause that's how government rolls. Back to the drawing board on this idea.

People who have the ability to hurt others and act on it have no moral compass in their souls. Taking advantage of people because you can and won't get caught is a sad thing in this world. I'm better and bigger then you so I'm going to hurt you. Well how about helping people because you are better off and have more. Honestly, this world is not a fun place to live in but I do and have honest and good friends, and 3 beautiful children. I was married to man who had no moral compass. But after 15 years in prison he grew. Glad I'm still not married to him though. But at least he's a better person now.

How about a decent minimum wage so more folks would pay tax? How about equal pay for women? That also would increase tax collected. Instead of taking from those who can't afford it, raise them up so they can afford to live and pay tax. Plenty of studies have shown that there is no benefit to the country/society in lower taxes to Corporations and the rich because they pocket the savings instead of spending. Arrrgggghhh ... Let's look at some round numbers for a second. 330 million Americans. 47% of that is ~155 million. If they all paid $100, that would be $15.5 billion which is about 1/50th of the military budget of $780 billion. How would that help anything?

The working poor have plenty of skin in the game. Most working poor do not qualify for medicaid, because they earn too much, It only takes 133% of poverty to not get it. At that point your just going without healthcare because you cannot afford it. Plenty of skin Rick,, plenty.

This is the same strategy that was proposed by Lee Atwater in his infamous Southern Strategy speech. Certain marginalized groups will be stopped from advancing to challenge the status quo. By keeping lower income groups locked at the bottom, crime can increase along side the misery index. The American people are so damn sleep. The Republican blast the woke crowd for being awoke because they would prefer everyone stay in a slumber. The Republicans must be put in time out, and allow multiracial America to be born.

There's more billionaires that don't pay taxes then there are low income that don't pay not to mention billionaires get some of those government handouts too and they HAVE money 😉

Except 47% of Americans are not billionaires so I think your calculation could do with a bit of work. However Rick Scott is disgraceful.

@@corigram Well if 47% of Americans don't pay income tax , that's very similar to the figure in the UK too. Around half the population don't pay income tax here, and the top 1% of earners pay 27% of all income tax.
