Glazer directed the Holocaust-era film The Zone of Interest, which won the Oscar for Best International Feature. I’ve been criticizing Israel for a couple of decades. It doesn’t mean we are antisemitic. It doesn’t mean we don’t hold great reverence for the Holocaust, and indeed, every historical era, whatever the location, and every incident that has consistently castigated Jewish people throughout history. Israel should be criticized. The United States should be criticized. All nations should be criticized. Progress and change does not occur without critical observation.

Adding to my previous statement. My Grandad was a para in WW2, he became a POW. He saw the pure evil and suffering during the Holocaust. It haunted him when he finally came home to my Grandma. My Dad has told me about the night terrors my Grandad suffered with due to what he'd seen and experienced. His plan was to stay in the army and had moved into the SAS after he was home and back fit again But he left because he did not agree with Palestinian land being taken in order to create Israel and how the people of Palestine were being treated. My Grandad fought the Nazi's but gave up his army career because he couldn't support something that he didn't feel was right. I'm so incredibly proud, as I am of my Grandma who was in the land army

His speech was absurd. Nobody has weaponized the holocaust to justify Gaza. Oct. 7 justifies Gaza all by itself. As does the behaviour of Hamas toward its own citizens, turning them into human shields, valuing them only in death. But the Glazers of this world would rather show off their virtue and morally preen before an assembled audience. He should be ashamed, not celebrated.

The UN for example criticizes Isrrael more than all other countries of the world combined. And nobody marches and protests for those innocent civilians slaughtered in Congo, in Syria, or anywhere else. Only those supposedly killed by Israel (when in fact it was Hamas' stated strategy to ensure as many Gaza civilians were killed as possible, so gullible suckers could spew Hamas propaganda. It's obviously worked a charm. So no, Israel isn't criticized the same as any other country. It's demonized and delegitimized at every turn. The double-standards with regard to Israel are incredible and can only be attributed to a lingering cultural antisemitism.

Jews are no more obligated than anyone else to combat this. It's impossible to criticise the ideology of Bibi (that Jewishness and Israeli nationality are indestinguishable) without accepting this. I think you need to examine why you're saying they have a 'lot of sway' also, as disproportionate Jewish influence is a fairly common antisemitic trope. I don't believe you meant it like this, but we need to be very precise with our language, especially right now.

@@skontheroad Tanakh is just the jewish version of the OT. That book says nothing about the modern state of israel or who self-idetifies as jewish. There are ca 35 million self-identified jews on earth. Only 6,5 million of them israelis. And a lot of ultra-orthodox relifgious groups dont even accept isael as the promised jewish state - no messiah, no kingdom of god. They view it as a "false" man-made attempt at the homeland that is bound to fail. And a lot of modern laizist folks dont follow the religion, but still consider themselves _(and are considered by others and israel)_ as jewish. It is in fact extremely common for isael to claim to speak for all jews. As you seem to have swallowed. But the state never even managed to get supported by a majority of them.

Allusions are often made between the English use of collective punishment against the Irish as well as The Great Hunger and the modern starvation techniques of Israel. It's a pretty apt comparison frankly. Are you familiar with the Ireland palestine solidarity campaign? (Also, as a Canadian, we literally are occupiers.
