Just opened a jar of apple butter from 2 years ago and decided to spread it on a English muffin and watch some KZfaq videos and here you are. Lol. I'm the only one who eats it so I don't make alot. The house smells so good when it's cooking down. Glad you tried it again. Love your videos!

I make apple butter in my Instant Pot. I have no immersion blender so I just mash them with potato masher, a bit chunky but that's how my Granny did it!

I have never finished an apple butter in less than 24 hours. The time is worth it for the magical product you get in the end! This year I made my apple butter with only the apple skins & cores left from our apple sauce. We did remove 99% of seeds only & left the rest of the core. -I cooked down 3 gallons of apple skins (About 12 hours) -Then blended skins smooth -Then milled to remove skins from pulp -Then cooked down pulp another 12 hours -Then canned 5 pints worth of butter We gave about a gallon bucket of skins left with no pulp remaining to the pigs. We also got 1 pint of apple syrup made from the remaining juices of the pulp & cores.

Definitely glad to see that you tried apple butter again! It is a favorite for me. Our apple processing/preserving was a 4 day process this year. I questioned if it was better that going to the store at a couple points. But I can not buy apple butter like mine at the store.

Way to go! Apple Butter was always a big treat growing up. So when I started canning 3 years ago, it was one of the first things I made. One thing I do to help the breakdown and cooking time of the apples is to run the wedges through my food processor and shred them, then you do not have to put them through a blender, but I do use an immersion blender later on. An 18 quart electric roaster comes in real handy for cooking it down too, taking about one whole day from beginning to end. I have always left the peelings on. When I gave it away for gifts, I was surprised at the number of people who did not know what it was!

I cook my apples then freeze dry them. Grind them to a powder so when I rehydrate them I can make them as thick as I like. Yours looks pretty darn delicious.

Oh, silly me. Cook them down first, then spread out to dehydrate. Probably better, but still rubbery.

My mom made the best apple butter I’ve ever had. She used Grimes Golden Apples. They are very difficult to find. If you can find them at all. Very heirloom variety. She baked it in the oven and stirred and stirred. Adding all that extra love. ❤. I miss her so much.

I canned some apple slices in light syrup this year. I let them sit with sugar overnight in a colander with a weight on them before canning (they were soaked in lemon water). They turned out so nice. Can be put in green or chicken salad, I could fry them or chop for hand pies and oatmeal. For those who can’t afford to drop $50 on apples ask neighbors with unused fruit. I asked on an app called neighborhood and many responded with pears and apples. I think I will start a sharing garden stand next summer. Where people leave their extra and take what they need. No money exchanged an act of neighborly love and helps.

This apple butter looks incredible, and I bet your house smelled phenomenal. The last time I did apple butter, I left the cores in and just quartered the apples and cooked them in a pot until they were soft. Then I put them through my food sieve to get rid of all the skins and seeds. After that I cook it a few hours and it is THICK. The apple cores seem to give a LOT of pectin. It is time consuming, but it's worth it to me.

Right there with ya. Its a long process. If you want it to really thicken up leave the lid off So the steam can evaporate. I ended up with 8 jars and only used one crock pot. Wanted more but now I know better.

If you leave the lid off crock pot it will thicken up quicker. I have bought jars of plain applesauce and made apple butter with it.

Girl!!! That was sooooo me the other day canning my last batch of cowboy candy (preserved 30 lbs!) I was pulling out all my jars to finish! Store bought with lids, small 4oz, 8oz, and1 weck jar lol. I reuse commercial jars often and my lids. Im glad you gave your apple butter another shot. We LOVE it!! It does take a very long time but so worth it.....and it's mostly hands off time which I appreciate :)

I recently made apple butter. I blended them into a sauce before I started cooking them in the crock pot. Turned out really good. Also my second try, since I too didn’t have the patience the first try. I ended up with something like apple sauce that first time.

I do mine very much the same. Leave on skins. chop roughly. a bit less sugar but similar spices. What I do differently is that I do have an emersion blender and use that about halfway through the 10 hours and then I use a pair of tongs to prop the lid so the liquid can evaporate faster. We love it thick.

Mine turned out fantastic. It look almost three days but I’m delighted with it. Thanks so much for the demo . I didn’t have any brown sugar left and was running low on molasses so I used some black treacle , utterly delicious ❤

A method I have used for fruit butters is similar to your start. Fill half way with apples, add extras, add more apples and use the lid until soft. Once soft, hit with a potato masher. When possible, combine pots. Restart another pot of be apples. When cooked be down add to initial batch. Keep going until the pot if full. Then jar. Feel free to dip into the pot to smoother pancakes, top ice cream. If you have a wood stove, winter is the best time to do fruit butters, biggest stock pot for the sauce -unlidded (use a diffuser or trivet) and other cooking the fruit to smashing point -lidded. Once you have this down, then it's time to learn how to make fruit only syrups and molasses. Yes just fruit and enough water to not scorch the fruit. Another wood stove winter days project. Use like honey for the syrup, and we'll molasses is molasses. (Apple, pear, quince/apple, paw paw, peach, plum, berries, citrus (use apple/pear/white grape to sweeten the tarter fruit). Once its to the butter stage, you can make curd from it (rhubarb service berry curd is delightful and makes great holiday gifts). If you freeze the fruit first is gets to the smoosh place faster.

I cook my apples down in a big pot on top of stove. Doesn't take as long. Maybe 30 min or so. When I get applesauce consistency I transfer to crockpot. Then cook on low at least 36 hours ( I turn down to keep warm when I go to bed) stir every hour or so during waking hrs. Mine was really really thick. Cooking apples down to like an applesauce on stove 1st cuts time down a few hours. Then I use a tater masher to mash apples. Then pour in crockpot. Use a wooden skewer to keep lid propped open slightly. It helps to keep a lot of moisture out so it thickens faster 😊 5:04

I’ve been wanting to make apple butter but haven’t yet! I’d love to try it. Thank you for this, cuz I’m very impatient! Lol. In the last week I’ve canned some white northern beans, kidney beans, carrots and just made some hot pepper jelly today. I’ll probably make another batch or two of the pepper jelly because our peppers are still making like crazy. 😅

My mom and mamaw used same ingredients plus nutmeg. They used the red cinnamon dot candy back then idk if those are available today. They cooked theirs in a gas stove oven in a roaster pan. I think they worked with what they had back then but I remember it was very tasty on a homemade biscuit 😋 I've made it a few times like you're doing now and was very happy with end results. As long as my family liked it I was happy in ❤️. God bless you honey I enjoy all your videos!!!

We had so many apples and hence apple Butter that we turned some into apple butter fruit leather. It is amazing. The spices are so delightful and the apple flavor intense. We put a layer of plastic wrap and then about 1/8-3/16 inch layer of the butter and dried for about 24 hours until we could peel it off the plastic and then put it back in for a few more hours. Out it in parchment in small sections and then rolled and cut it. I’ve also put small sections in a plastic container and put parchment between the layers and put it in the freezer to store. This time I put it in jars rolled up and sucked out the air to seal. We’ll see how it goes.

I love apple butter. I don't add sugar or spices but I will add a teaspoon of salt and a pat of butter only because that's how my mom made hers

I love making apple butter and eating it, though we eat it and other jams, jellies, etc sparingly. Therefore I only get to make & can these items every few years. Last fall I did 2 batches, 1 with caramels. Yum!

This came out just in time!!!!!! I live in Middle Georgia and it's hard to get good fresh apples like what you're using. I had a friend who went up to the mountains in North Georgia North Carolina borderline. She knew I wanted to make some apple butter but couldn't find decent apples. So when she got to the farmers market up there and saw them she gave me a phone call and asked me how much to get. Going to start with a bushel for starters. Once I have them canned some will become gifts for other people. She also found out when they are going to close down for the year and most likely I will have some money saved up and purchase some more. Like you said homemade apple butter does not last long and nobody's house.

Maybe you could make Cracker Barrel fried apples and can those. First of all, they are to die for, second - you can use them for apple pie, and third you can puree them into apple butter. Multipurposing. Just discovered your channel, love the Amish episodes.

I've not made this yet but plan to. Two ways to cut this time, bc... no wonder you were over it! I would be too. lol Pre heat the apples quickly in a pot on the stoveI to the point of softened, then go low and slow in the crock for the important caramelizing, that should save 3or 4 hours alone, then, I'm thinking taking the lid off or at least vented, after the point its all done but for the thickening would surely cut the process down by .. several more hours, no? Anyway I can't wait to have some on shelf, that looks sooo Yum!

A quick tip... I cut the time a lot by boiling the peels and cores on the stove, so they release their natural pectin. After about an hour, I pour that liquid in the slow cooker with the apples. A two day process was done in about 10 hours.

You could soak them in a little vinegar on your first soak. If they are waxed you so use hot water.

this is how I make my apple butter and it's done within 24 hours put about 1 inch of water on the bottom of a huge, thick-bottomed pot. Put the lid on, and the heat on high. When it gets really going, turn it to medium until the apples are soft through and through. NOTE: if there is a lot of standing water (juice) among the cooked apples, you may want to ladle it off before you seive the applesauce, or your applesauce may be too watery. Be sure to save and refrigerate the juice - that is tasty natural apple juice! You can use it to cook the next batch of cut apples, or drink it! After the sauce is made I add my seasonings and put it in the crockpot with the lid half off, it's usually thick if I leave it cook on low overnight.

I never remove skins. Why throw away perfectly good food. Even carrots. I lightly scrub carrots and leave the healthy "skin" intact. This apple butter looks so much better. It takes FOREVER.

My roaster was full, now, 18 hr later it’s down half! Going to let it go all day today, the apples were very white flesh. Never saw such white apples! So it’s not as dark as I thought. We’ll see how it looks tonight.

I just watched an old movie that was made in 2000, Pioneer Quest. Reality movie on life in the 1800’s. They water bathed canned for 3 hours because of botulism. I thought that was very interesting!

Maybe open the jars of that first batch, pour it in the crock pot and cook it for a while longer, until it's thicker. More apple butter, sooner, I would think. ❤🍏❤🍏❤🍏❤🍏❤🍏❤

If you've ever thought of it you might want to add organic molasses syrup because that is better than you putting the brown sugar in it God's on the street does it taste better too after a couple years my grandmother made it every single year and yours is the best I've seen since I ate hers so I am going to try this 36-hour thing because honestly I never thought twice that I should have cooked it longer cuz usually the recipe show you to do 24 hours I've never heard of anyone but my grandparent my my grandmother was the best cook ever and she always just did it by eyeball so thank you for showing this and the Molasses thing it really does work and it's way better for you and better for your children if you have any kids it's even better for adults so there you go God I cannot wait to try this now I'm going to get apples today

I just tried a new apple jelly recipe. Do u have recipe I can try that doesn't use powdered pectin, mine didn't jell up. My apple jelly wasn't a total loss however, I found out adding water to it made a apple juice which was delicious, but I really would like to make a jelled apple jelly.

Have a question .. Was the apple butter cold when you put it in the jars? If so do use cool water in the kettle and let everything warm up together? I hope this makes sense.. Im new to canning! Not ever having made apple butter as its really not a thing here in Australia (we have apple sauce, usually eaten with roast pork) if you cracked the lid on the crock with say a toothpick or something to let some of the steam escape while cooking would it make the process a little faster with the same taste/texture?

when I make my apple butter in the crock pot I tilt my lid so it vents and it takes about half the time to cook down because the moisture can escape

I’ve been wanting to make applesauce for awhile. Are certain apples better than others for applesauce and apple butter?

Hello! when it comes to making applesauce a variety is best for taste. I'm not too particular when it comes to sauce but with apple butter I used Cortlend, Autumn crisp, McIntosh, and Jonagold.

I have a question for you. I started with five pounds apples. I chopped & cored like you did. I added ingredients like you did. I cooked them in crockpot on low for ten hours. It tastes delicious BUT I ended up with a little over one half quart!! What did I do wrong?! 😅

Is keeping the lid off an option to let the moisture out, therefore cutting the cooking time down?

Watching your video now. Just a suggestion, use a potato masher instead of the blender. Seems safer to me

I made applesauce today, I’d love to do apple butter but the price of apples in my area is making me question if it’s worth it. Is anyone else feeling this struggle?

Use an electric roaster & go buy a stick blender lol!

Or you can put them in the oven on the lowest temp. I do not make small batches as clean up from a very large batch is about the same if littles are not helping. Then all bets be are off.

I bought 100 harvest guards lids last year because you could not get lids.
