I made apple butter in the Crock Pot this year instead of on the stovetop and it worked out SO well! Here's my recipe:
12 lbs apples, peeled, cored, quartered
4 cups Honeycrisp apple juice
3 cups white sugar
3 cups light brown sugar
6 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. cloves
zest of one orange
Add all ingredients to Crock Pot, cook on HIGH for 10 hours. Immersion blend until smooth, then let thicken up with the lid off. Process half pint jars for 10 minutes in a water bath, then turn off heat for 5 minutes, and remove from canner. Let sit overnight to ensure they all seal, then remove rings and store!

I made apple butter last year for first time in the crockpot, just so you know you don't need to peel the apples the skin cooks down with the apples and you cannot tell they are in there

I also keep my skins on. I slice core and slice the apples and then run it through my blender with some apple cider then just toss in the pot with sugar and spices and cook til it looks ready lol

Learned how to get wax off apples. Get boiling water add in a pot that will hold about 4 apples drop apples in the water for 15 seconds wipe off the wax. Place apples in large pot with 1/2 cup vinegar and cold water. Soak to get pesticides off

U don’t need all that liquid. A cup at most is enough. Turn it on low before u go to bed. Then if it’s not thick enough in the morning turn the lid so the steam escapes and turn it on high until thick

Pat R.....yep, apples make they’re own juice. I add very little. The last batch I made was too thin, because I put a little too much liquid. I don’t water bath. I can apple butter like tomatoes, boil the mixture and get it into boiling hot jars and seals, fast. Works great for me. Had no spoilage

Thank you. I have a recipe but couldn't remember how many minutes to boil when processing & if I leave in canner for any length of time. You saved me!! Made some Apple Butter in the Ball Electric Canner. I live in a Apt & any Canner I've used gets destroyed within 3 sessions. Crockpot is the way to go. I actually cook in on WARM overnight.

Cool, thanks. Have seen people make apple in the cock pots but was curious about how to can the stuff. :) One hint about the slow cooker method I think I'll use is doing the 10 hour cook cycle before going to sleep (before you use hand blender the snot out of it).

I had an a lot of apples gifted to me. I decided to make apple butter in a crockpot and it's delicious. I have my jars in the dishwasher and water boiling. Your video so far has been the best for me. Of the videos I watched none said to have the water boiling (I am a true beginner) The only question I believe I am left with is do I want the popping sound or not?
@GardensbyLindsey
@GardensbyLindsey 3 жыл бұрын
The popping of the lids means they're sealed! 24 hours after you take them out of the canner, if any of the lids are not sealed (so you can flex them up and down in the middle), refrigerate and use those first. Good luck and happy canning!

I also have a glass type stovetop. Did your canning pot fit ok? I want to use my stovetop, but would like some advice. Thank you for your video!
@GardensbyLindsey
@GardensbyLindsey Жыл бұрын
Yes! I always can on a glass top stove and never have any issues. A couple tips: - Fill the pot ON the stove, don't fill it and then put it on the stove. This ensures you don't slam it down and risk cracking the top. - Make sure the cooktop is clean before you start, so you don't burn anything onto the glass top.

I did this crock.pot apple butter. This is my first time canning anything. So my question in my jar it had some moisture. Taste great. Just concerned.
@Ladyoni69
@Ladyoni69 Жыл бұрын
You don't put on a lid when you water bath can? That's called open kettle and is no longer considered safe. Also you may not want to fill all the jars at once assembly line style, which gives the contents a chance to cool before putting into the boiling water.

What do you mean about remove the rings?
@GardensbyLindsey
@GardensbyLindsey 2 жыл бұрын
Before storing, it's a good idea to remove the rings from the jars so you can ensure you don't have a false seal. It also helps prevent rust on the lids and rings!
@kirstenclaar6994

How do you store these? Do they need to be in the freezer? Also once you unseal the can how long is it good for? Thanks!
@GardensbyLindsey
@GardensbyLindsey Жыл бұрын
Once they're canned, they're shelf stable! Once you unseal the jar, I keep it in the fridge and it'll last for a while -- think jam or jelly.

@GardensbyLindsey
@GardensbyLindsey 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! I never store any canned food with the rings - it helps prevent rust from forming under the ring and also provides a better indicator on if the seal has degraded over time.

@@GardensbyLindsey You're fine.Whatever works. I make my butter now, Dec-Jan.. The apples are not going to keep much longer and you end up with the same fibre and sugar content. I also have more time and the heat and humidity are welcome. Hint: over heating causes the sugar to caramelize and you end up with fruit leather in places on your pot.. Yummy but not if you don't want that.
